09 September 2005, 09:00 AM
Nice to see you in !
Good luck Zapan :)

09 September 2005, 10:12 AM (

Here the concept sketch. It will be an antic character lifting a tree.

Basically the picture will be focus on him but I'm planning add some running animals around like bunnies and birds.

Because what is spectacular for us could frightening for someone else.

I don't know if I will be able to create all of this but I will try to put all my energy in it...

09 September 2005, 10:51 AM
hey man,
thats a great character. i hope your modelling skills arent as good as your drawing skill, so i still have a chance with my crappy sketch :)

good luck anyway!!

09 September 2005, 11:51 AM
Cool idea !

09 September 2005, 12:25 PM
cool I like that I `am dieing to see this 3d

09 September 2005, 12:46 PM
Looking forward to the 3D version m8, Good Luck:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 01:06 PM
Thanks to all for the support.

All the best luck and fun to everybody...

09 September 2005, 01:34 PM
i love the quick sketch u did. great facial expression.

09 September 2005, 03:14 PM
Ehehe dude great idea i will follow your wip with many interests...

good luck and show us the "Ardeche's touch" MOUAHAHAHAHAHA

09 September 2005, 03:28 PM
For sure... I like the subjects with trees :scream: ... then, I'm happy to see the next steps... Keep it up man :bounce:

09 September 2005, 04:10 PM (

Update of the sketch. Here will be basically the organisation of the picture with three depths of field.

09 September 2005, 04:12 PM
Thank you for the support. I also like pictures of trees, I would like to make something really natural with this

09 September 2005, 04:16 PM
Wow, one ought to be pretty damn massive in muscles to do that. Well you had me say wow at first sight, that says alot haha. Im awaiting to see alot of expression from this piece, with such a good start, im sure you'll be of to a good run with the rest of the contest aswell, ill be looking forward to your progress.

09 September 2005, 04:28 PM
Very interesting concept... somethig between mythology, spectacular nature forces, etc... I really like it.

09 September 2005, 04:29 PM
Good idea, it looks good ! though i prefer the first sketch, more focused on the essential. I think it has a stronger impact on the viewer. but this just my opinion :)

Good luck !

09 September 2005, 05:44 PM
THanks for your nice words on my tread, i can return this right back on you! Looking forward to another wonderfull and awesome beautifull creation of yours, and i wish you best luck and loadsa fun mate! :bounce: :wip:

09 September 2005, 06:18 PM
good luck with your challenge Brouty,,,your scetch looks promissing.gonna have an eye on it:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 08:36 PM
Hiya, this is looking good so far. Good luck with your ideas, I look forward to seeing more from you! ;)

09 September 2005, 09:25 PM
I like the concept, although I think you will have to wokr on making it a bit stronger. I did think about making a person lift something heavy showing off his/her spectacular strength, but I think adding a twist may make it a bit stronger. Hope you find something to make it stand out above the rest:thumbsup: .

09 September 2005, 07:22 AM
@ Mireneye

Wow, one ought to be pretty damn massive in muscles to do that. Well you had me say wow at first sight, that says alot haha. Im awaiting to see alot of expression from this piece, with such a good start, im sure you'll be of to a good run with the rest of the contest aswell, ill be looking forward to your progress.
Thanks a lot mireneye I'll try to make him strong.

@ jddog

Very interesting concept... somethig between mythology, spectacular nature forces, etc...
That's exactly the mood I'm looking for.Thank you.

@ charles_magne

it looks good ! though i prefer the first sketch, more focused on the essential. I think it has a stronger impact on the viewer
Actually you are surely right but I would like to add these little animals for the meaning of the scene so I have to see the ground... But I'm still looking for a better composition...

@ the1st_angel ,kmest , enialadam :Thank you for the words:bounce:

@ ace4016 : I will try to make him a stronger , but I'm trying to get a very natural picture so I will try to not exagarate... (Although he's lifting a tree by hand)

09 September 2005, 10:41 AM
Good luck for this challenge :)

09 September 2005, 11:22 AM
Thank you Elendil , glad to see you here.

09 September 2005, 06:46 PM (

Ok modelling time, I start this head today for the character. Some part will be deformed for sure considering the effort. I tried to keep a human aspect, so no giant jaw or neck, just a good muscle definition.

09 September 2005, 06:48 PM (

Smooth shaded version

09 September 2005, 06:48 PM
Nice wires, good job... and sure it will be very great after texturing.. :)

Keep it up

Maybe... You have to do some edits with the mesh and it will be great..
Like the ears and the month area... :)

09 September 2005, 07:42 PM
eYadNesS : thank you , I will check these area.

09 September 2005, 07:45 PM
What a cool idea! Good luck with this man! I'm excited to see how this comes along.

09 September 2005, 07:47 PM
Looking Great and that's one hell of a Fast entry:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 07:51 PM
I wrote this long message but internet decided to dump it.. Ohwell, basically I said that last contest somebody told me a thumb rule... About the Nose/mouth/cheek, And I think this may help you:

I wish you the best of luck!

09 September 2005, 07:57 PM
maybe that's just the kinda look he's looking for

09 September 2005, 08:20 PM
@ gardogg : Thanks a lot gardogg I will try to do my best.

@ 3rd user : Thx I'm working a lot by now because I have some free time now and you know when you have the motivation... work work (zog zog) before she goes :bounce: :bounce:...

@ mireneye : It's surely right most of times but in this case I took that ref

It not really something I wanted but thinking about his futur expression I guess It won't be important.Anyway thx for your interest.

09 September 2005, 08:29 PM
lips for me are a little bit thin... but still a wip :wip:

09 September 2005, 08:41 PM
Haha, if you used that as reference I surly understand. I guess there are always something that derive from the normal. As someone previously said, if that's what your going for then sure it's a go!

09 September 2005, 08:46 PM
that's normal,a little different...i guess ppl with sense of Humor have that kinda look...that's what i have experienced....keep it up

09 September 2005, 10:53 PM
Ok people I will fix that , apparently you guys aren't ok with that , honestly I found the tiny lips give him something special but maybe in a wrong way.

@ 3rd user : Haha lol if this guy can smile all the time even lifting a tree he's related with the Joker...

09 September 2005, 11:10 PM
off to a great start... the model is taking shape really good... topology looks okay but the mesh looks a bit boxy, mayb bcause u just started working on it... another thing is i prefer his lips and nose be a little lower... and the chin should be more prominent outside and mayb a thicker lower lip would give him a bit more personality. Well thats all for me now.. hope to c a lot of u around!!

09 September 2005, 03:53 AM
Onto modeling already. Very fast :) and cool head. I think the chin is a bit flat.

09 September 2005, 07:08 AM
Thanks you guys I will try to improve the model in that way

09 September 2005, 07:19 AM
Hi Zapan!
Good modelling so far. The only crit I could make is that your guy doesn't have the face of a strong guy due to his head's shape. You should try to make him larger jaws, stronger nose, shorter ears, and maybe also a larger face.
( Ca vaut ce que ca vaut hin c'est juste mon humble avis mais vu sa tete il a pas l'air capable de soulever un arbre :) D'un autre coté ca peut faire qqch d'original... Faut attendre a suite pour voir :) )

Keep it up!

09 September 2005, 07:43 AM
Putain ! Quand t'es parti, t'es parti ! Je suis un peu d'ac avec Olivier, il mériterai un peu plus de force dans le visage...
F£%§ ! When you start, this is not a joke ! I argee with Olivier, he should be more strengthful...

09 September 2005, 09:27 AM (

My mind is split between two differents kind of feeling concerning the head shape. According to the crits you guys see more lines of strengh on head.I thought more a stylized athletic greek icon like a sculpture. So I draw this to illustrate the two differents visions of the head.I request your help to find the style which fit better to the character.
The first one (starting from the left) would would be a more muscular head , more believable but lost the mythologic feeling a litlle, I think. The second would be more a traditional representation of an greek athlete. And the third one , the first idea that I had in mind more stylized, not so strong but helped by his gods...

09 September 2005, 09:46 AM
@ reiv : Merci beaucoup , ja'i fait un petit dessin pour voir dans quel sens faire les réctifications du visage.

*Many thanks, I made this little skecth to see in which direction should I make corrections.

09 September 2005, 09:58 AM
Out of the 3 head sketches I really like the first one. looking atheltic and strong as well.

09 September 2005, 01:47 PM
cant you make the first one's Muscular like the third??? i really like the first one better
keep it up:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 02:40 PM
Ehehehe mister good start...

personaly i think the secund face could be a great idea... why not? it's most spectacular to see a man not very strong raise a tree than a big man...

it's just my opinion but i think it could be a more interesting to make its choice...

keep it up...:buttrock:

09 September 2005, 06:13 PM (

I tried to correct the face shape according to your suggestions (many thaks by the way), I hope I'm getting better.

09 September 2005, 06:22 PM
nice start, i think you should review the mouth and try to catch the features of the first head sketch! ;)

09 September 2005, 06:29 PM
if this is for the first one then yes, you should do as collings of the first thing is the is too Smooth
but you got the Muscular look good so far......and go for the brow...
keep it up

09 September 2005, 06:50 PM
it's look like good job for the moment, good luck for next !!

09 September 2005, 06:56 PM
hi !

ni concept and nice wire :) If I knew how to make heads like that I! Ahhhh lol
good luck :)

09 September 2005, 07:00 PM
Zapan Good luck Guy I am sure you will do great, It is hard to produce knowing all the great artist that usually join these challanges but all you can do is your best.

09 September 2005, 11:39 PM
His head comes very good...
...maybe his face need to be more expressive, but I must wait the continuation and the details you certainly add... good work anyway Stéphane

09 September 2005, 03:16 AM
The corrected model looks really good. I like how you have made him lookign quite strong. Good modeling ;)

09 September 2005, 08:02 AM
• Hi Brouty! Cool idea i know u'll find that energy, i wish u fun on this!

09 September 2005, 08:13 AM
Riev comment I think was very prtinent in this case... I have to admit that body modelling is not 100% my cup of tea... I really like what you do and the last faces sketches are really interesting. Sure you are in the right way, I continue to follow what you do with interest...

09 September 2005, 10:58 AM
@ collings : I 'm about to start working on expressions so many things on that area will probably change, When I will know which expression I want for him....

@ 3rd user : Thanks for following this.

@ fourche : Thank you , I will try to make good job for next.

@ flaeticia : Merci beaucoup Laeticia , j'aime beaucoup ton concept également , bonne chance à toi ... :bounce: ( <---- Any chance to make that guy jumping higher ?)

*Many thanks to you Laeticia , I really like your concept too , best whishes for you...*

@ Lordrych : Thank you for the words , my only goal in this place is to do my best and learn as much it's possible :wise:

@ Lemog : Merci beaucoup Laurent , je vais essayer de travailler sur son caractere , son expressivité, mais avant de rajouter les détails je vais essayer de definir une bonne expression...

*Thanks a lot Laurent , I will try to work his experessivity, but before adding details , I will try to find a good expression.

@ Yongkiat : Thanks , glad you like it like that.

@ Climax : Thanks a lot
i wish u fun on this
That's already is

@ jddog : Thank you for all your advices and for the support and for following this .... well for everything

09 September 2005, 11:13 AM
Great start, the poly flow and edge loops look really good.

09 September 2005, 04:00 AM
There was a story in our legends. A character was chained to a tree to prevent him from helping his friends in a brutal and a kind of "less chance to win" battle.

He tries to unchain himself but fails.

Later he comes to the battleground near to the end with an extracted tree still chained in his back.

I remembered that when i inspect your sketch.

RanZ Cross
09 September 2005, 07:14 AM
Nice Modelling for the head... Gut luck Zapan !!

09 September 2005, 09:47 AM
Tht's ways better :)
You should work on the curve under the lower lip, pull back the moutch corners and also work on the nose profile. Here is a what I mean:

09 September 2005, 10:51 AM (

I'm trying to get a good facial expression to fit with the effort...

09 September 2005, 10:59 AM
@ Kid Mesh : Thanks a lot.

@ Le-Go: Thx man , actually my "story" is a little more "ecologic" message , trying to get two differents kind of vision in here spectacular and ecologic. "With great power comes great responsability" like Spiderman lol :scream: .

@ RanZ Cross : Thx

@ reiv : Many thx Olivier to get time to do that. You won't believ it but that's exactly the different points that I have changed since the last update , I will try to upload that soon. Thanks again.

09 September 2005, 11:34 AM
it is Really interesting..... but....But,you Drawing are Cartoony...i hope your Actual model is not like them:rolleyes:
EDIT : i'm sorry,i didnt understand you wanted us to say which one....
yeah, number 4 is cool....that would be great if you could put some pain in the face

09 September 2005, 11:56 AM
I like much the #4, we tight the teeth during the spectacular efforts :)

09 September 2005, 09:43 AM
I'm agree 4 looks good, eye expression will be very important also too !

09 September 2005, 01:57 PM (

I tried 2 different kind of expression.
According to your comments the second one will work a little more. But as not sure to give the right lookin to it I experimented both.I realise that both of them need to be improve a lot but that is just a test to see If I'm able to put some feelings in it.
The first one , is illustrating more anger and rage by the effort and certainly more pain.
And the second is obviously more elegant and athletic feeling and also more easy.
I require one more time your advices to get the most believable look.

09 September 2005, 02:44 PM
Nice job on facial expression !

09 September 2005, 03:18 PM
the model of the head is very nice
I'am exiting to see the texture of it
good luck zapan

09 September 2005, 03:24 PM
i prefer the second expression zapan like lemog said n°4!
j'aime vraiment beaucoup! continue comme ça

09 September 2005, 03:59 PM
Hey Brouty,
You did a great job with the expressions on your model, I think the bottom expression best suits your image . Good luck the rest of the way.

09 September 2005, 04:08 PM
Nice Model...;)

Keep up! ;)

09 September 2005, 08:16 PM
@ gpepper : Thx a lot Gilles :bounce:

@ tarekmax : thank you , textures won't appear soon but I will try to do my best with it.
And best wishes for you too.

@ collings : Hey hey, merci beaucoup Nicolas , je n'étais pas sur avant mais apparemment tout le monde prefere et puis si j'écoute pas Lemog , j'écoute personne :scream: :wise:

*Thanks a lot Nicolas , I wasn't sure last time but apparenlty everybody prefer that one , and if Lemog's wrong , everybody's wrong :scream: *

@ mmoir : thx a lot , I also that is the better choice. Best luck to you too.

@ Malanjo : thx :bounce: .

09 September 2005, 08:21 PM
Both work really well, but maybe the bottom is a little better. I would also close the eyes (although you were probably going to do that:p ). Hope you add viens and show more muscles flexing. Keep it up.

09 September 2005, 08:25 PM
well what to say, love it, still its hard rto say which fits better, first one maxbe has a lil too much arrgh hulk rage the second one has that weight lifting effect lookin a little more beleavable

09 September 2005, 08:42 PM
This is coming along great. I like the expression when his lips are pursed. I think it shows more emphasis on him struggling, or maybe the muscles in his neck flexing as well as some viens popping out, more of a pooping look, if you know what I mean. But anyway, keep it up, cant wait to see more.

09 September 2005, 08:59 PM
So I'm assuming you will be making the tree bark and the guys viens and tendons in zbrush? Sounds like fun! Good luck and this is coming along great. Are you using an anatomy book for the muscles or some ref pics of body builders from a google search? Just curious. I'm gonna have to deal with a lot of anatomy on mine and I don't know if I should buy a book on it myself. Do you think buying a book on anatomy is unavoidable... cause I'm BROKE. Lol.

09 September 2005, 09:06 PM
Oh . th eface model looks like nice .Hope to add beuty hair .goodluck ...

09 September 2005, 02:29 AM
nice head u got there... the expressions r looking gr8 man... uve done quite a lot of works here... keep goin...

09 September 2005, 11:58 AM
@ ace4016 : Thanks James. Actually I didn't think to close his eyes yet. Of course it will add some expressivity in this head but maybe with eyes open it will add some too ,surely different. Eyes color , what is he look at.... few things to make a different expression. I don't know and maybe it will be better with eyes close. I will experiment that when I will start textures. Thx for your help.

@ nebezial : Thx a lot , yes I maybe have exagerated the first one a little but I also think that the first one is more appropriated for this kind of picture.
Thx and man , you're hella fast  !!! best wishes for you... :bounce:

@ cg219 : I don't really understand what you mean (sorry my english is really not that good).
But I think that I should review neck muscles and try to add some veins and stuff, right ?
Thanks to following this

@ gardogg : In fact I don't know that software at all , I see the incredible work that people can do with it and it will surely be infinitly more easier and faster and everything with that soft but that will be just Maya , Alias rulez :scream: !! Oh ok. don't hit me :argh: .

Yeah all the references is mostly recommended for everything , not only anatomy. I guess that more you know about the stuff you want to create , more they will be realistic so believable. You can find anat sketches on the web, books... it will helps you anywhere anytime IMHO.

@ Ramtin_moom : Thx a lot , didn't think about the hair yet too , but blond hair for sure , maybe curly hair... I don't know

@ overcontrast : Many thanks Overcontrast , those words from a modeller like you ,man ... :bounce: :bounce:

09 September 2005, 07:28 AM
These expressions are really strong and spectacular, but I always prefer that with the closed mouth, which represents better the effort :buttrock: . With the first, we feels just a strong anger.

Anyway... good work, really impressive

09 September 2005, 08:08 AM
Im a little as lolo, that is super impressed by the job which you have make on the facial animations of characters ! Its very realistic, and thus very successful !

congratulation Steph'' :p

09 September 2005, 02:09 AM
This is looking great. The first one conveys a lot more emotion to the viewer than the second one so my vote has to go towards the first.

09 September 2005, 02:15 AM
Did U use ZBrush for create ur morph targets ?It`s so cool .

09 September 2005, 06:36 AM
You can say that they need much more work but ... Impressive ! just... I'm very impressed about your last face post. Agree that some different details to refine. In any case you are in the right way...

09 September 2005, 07:12 AM
Very cool modeling Zapan.

Good luck

09 September 2005, 11:33 PM
Looking great zapan! The 2nd expression is my fave (the one with the closed mouth)

Nice to see a spectacular entry focusing on human endevaur - no exploding things here!

What sorta look are you going for? Modern day, or mythical/ biblical clothes?

09 September 2005, 09:37 AM
Yo my friend, nice update here :buttrock:

As many people here i prefer the secund expression with the closed mouh...
Good luck

09 September 2005, 09:42 AM
Funny concept! And great start on the modeling. Especially the teeth... i'm always having problems with those... Keep it up:applause:

09 September 2005, 09:44 AM
Many thanks to all of you people. Don't have so much time to work on this lately but I will update that soon. I see that everybody is working really hard for this challenge and I told myself that I need and I want to do the same.

@ Lemog : Thx heavens and you're soo right I guess I'm on for the second one too, several things still bother me with it but I will start the body , I have to move on a little and I will fix it later. Many thx to you for all these advices and support.

@ flaeticia : Merci bcp Laeticia , j'essaye de faire de mon mieux et tant mieux si ca te plaît , je vais essayer de bien continuer pour la suite.

*Thanks a lot Laeticia , I try to do the best I can and I'm glad if you like it, I'll try to keep doing a good job for the next.*

@ CarlWahl : Thx CarlWahl , but I think I will go for the second one , less intense but surely more appropriate for the picture thanks for your interest.

@ Ramtin_moom : Nope that's only maya, I don't know Zbrush so everything will be done in maya for the pic ( I will TRY of course) . I will try this soft one day but not by now.

@ jddog : Many thanks to you Julien , I guess for the details that I will see what will be done with the texture and what I need to add to the shape. I 'm very happy if I'm on the right way.

@ fgcity : Thx best wishes to you too...

@ Andy H : Thx Andy. I will go for this one :) exploding things are very not my cup of tea I hope I could do something a bit spectacular anyway with this theme.
I will try to get more some anthics look like greek athlete , I can't stop myself thinking that he looks like Titan or Atlas , so I think I will go for this kind of look. Besides less clothes would be better to see his muscles...

09 September 2005, 01:15 PM
@ Poonks : Yoyoyo my friend
Pinaise il est ou ton thread ? j'arrive pas a le trouver. Lol je rigole , vraiment dommage que tu puisse pas faire le challenge. Merci pour tes encouragements ;)

*Where the hell is your thread ? I can't find it... Lol just kidding, really bad that you can't join us for the challenge. thankx for your support ;)*

@ Ivars : Thanks man , Yeah teeth are quit hard to create and also sooo long , but finally I will go for the first expression so we won't see it...

09 September 2005, 02:47 PM
I gues you can solve your problem with facial expression of the character by modelling top part of body. You see the expression of the face also depends on position of the head and neck.

Anyway I like your "ecological" consept. And nice modelling too.

Good Luck, and I'm sorry for my english.

09 September 2005, 07:38 PM
I would suggest looking up some pictures of the anatomy of the neck. I don't want to bother drawing it all out, but lets just say that the artery coming down from the ear is the only artery coming down the side of the neck. Your model has two arteries coming down (the one coming down from beneath the jaw shouldn't be there). Also, the main artery that you did model (the one coming down from the ear) splits at the bottom (which is probably why you assumed there were two arteries coming down). Hope that helps.

Okay, changed my mind. I want to show you a picture of what I'm trying to describe:

09 September 2005, 07:55 PM
Te fait pas chier avec des comments trop précis sur l'anatomie de ton perso, continue comme ça, ça le fera ! Ton perso a du style, c'est déjà pas mal ! et c'est ça le plus important !
Aller grouille par contre !

I don't tell that anatomy isn't important but The most important is the style and your character has got style !
Hurry up because time is short !

09 September 2005, 08:17 PM
Hi, i liked the head, is very expressive and the meshes is also very clean. congratulations

09 September 2005, 10:05 PM (

Start torso modeling

09 September 2005, 10:10 PM
Good looking, model so far, you may need to work on the torso some more though, around the lower abdomen area, Good luck to ya, hollz!

09 September 2005, 10:12 PM
Sorry mates for being long but actually I've restarted this 3 times because nothing really convince me. This one is a little better though it still need lot of shape's tweaking :banghead: :surprised :banghead:

suk-grigorij : Thanks man I appreciate your words best wishes to you too.

gardogg : Yep agree with that, I tweak that area on the last entry

gpepper : Merci Gilles de me pousser un peu la motiv' avait commencer un peu à redescendre au bout du troisieme recommencement de ce pinaise de rognutjuuu de torse.

denverbz : Thx a lot man.

Hey Brouty,

I really like the characters facial expression:thumbsup: , dont know about the forehead though , a little too slanted maybe. I agree the lower torso doesn't look quite right , should be quite so thick I think. You are doing a very good job on this .

09 September 2005, 10:57 PM
Good looking character..can't wait to see the final

09 September 2005, 01:32 PM
the facial expressions are perfect..your work is very good! waiting for updates

09 September 2005, 05:47 PM
His neck i too short I'm afraid, it's gonna be hard to rig it. Good modelling, anyway.

09 September 2005, 06:29 PM
thank you guys for all these great comment and support.

@ suk-grigorij : yeah you're toldelly right I didn't notice that. In fact the short neck give a stronger look so that's why it di'dn't bother me. I will try to make it a little longer although I'm not really worried for the rig because I will just put bones really quickly to give him the pose and lot of muscle configuration will change. So I guess that I will do a lot of tweaking.

Thx for your input and your suggestion :bounce:

09 September 2005, 12:35 PM
Hey Stephane - great face expression, really good
Like the concept too - if you can pull this off it will be spectacular indeed, I'm glad I found this, will follow from now :)

09 September 2005, 02:56 PM (

Here's finally the complete body. I tried to be carefull on the muscle definition but there surely be some mistakes.I guess that still need lot of tweaking there. Now I can get him a pose and start detailling correctly each part.

09 September 2005, 02:57 PM
:) @ Gunilla : Thank you for the great words , and many thx for following this :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

09 September 2005, 03:03 PM
Some excellent modeling here.

It looks like he has a bit of a double chin, which is odd considering how ripped he is otherwise. At a glance i'd say there is a bit too much of a crease where the pectorals meet the shoulder muscle and the forearms look a bit bent from the front...

Just nit-picking really, overall it looks really good.

09 September 2005, 04:55 PM (

Here's the persp view and wireframe

09 September 2005, 04:58 PM
@ Swamps : Hi thanks a lot for the words , really not a probleme, I'll check these area and try to fix them, many thanks to you for your help -cheers-

09 September 2005, 05:26 PM
good work so far. the waist looks a bit odd to me.if you can check that....

09 September 2005, 05:40 PM
Ouch les poignets...

Wrists are strange, maybe broken...

Pay attention to the shoulder near the Pectoral muscles and the shoulder near the biceps... Maybe You should do some work near the scapula too... Instead of that, he is cool... I mean, he doesn't seem to be a cool guy, but he looks great !

09 September 2005, 05:52 PM
Wow, I see you've made quite a good progress on teh body. The guy's very muscular! Reminding me of Arnold during his prime ;)

09 September 2005, 06:30 PM

Face is awesome, no crits there.

But just as the Gpepper pointed at you, some areas need some tweakings. Basicly, go grab some anatomy references of the shoulder/biceps/Belly/back/wrists area and when modeling just follow the flow of the muscles and bone structure. It really feels here like you're making common mistakes modelers do when they modeling intuitively or by memory.

But it's on a good way to be a good looking model, keep it up !

09 September 2005, 07:21 AM
Hi Zapan. I think your Hands are a little bit to big. You lost the proportion in your hands and fingers. The feet are COOL.

Keep going.

xbo :scream:

09 September 2005, 10:27 AM
Yove got a nice concept here!,,I might have not replied to this thread earlier, but I was indeed taking a look at the progress youve done so far:wise: ... The 3D figure looks awesome,,Im not commenting on the model for now,,cause I think youre still tweaking it..right!:)
I wonder whats the story behing this scene,,,hey let me guess...humm is it the great Samson!:scream: any ways heres wishing you luck!

09 September 2005, 10:32 AM
Let me sum up all your crits : shoulders, pec, abs, back , biceps, wrists , hands...:surprised
Weird, I use anatomy sketches as ref anyway :banghead: ... but I guess my modeling skills aren't good enough to put what I see in my 3d model. There are a lot of tweaking waiting for me now.

ok tweaking time :bounce: thx to all of you people for your help'LL BE BACK (for you Yongkiat ;))

09 September 2005, 10:34 AM
nice modelling! keep up the good work

Don't let this bring you down man  got the base already set up here, it just need some lil tweaks to get the proper creasing at some key point. The more you go into details the more difficult it is to have the proper wiring without having too many polys in your model, I'm not a real expert over the matter, my anatomy knowledge is somehow limited, but here's a safe investement to improve dramaticly your skills over the matter.

Even though it is mentionned to be Zbrush-Maya specific, it is most valuable at a more general level. That dude, Zack Petroc, really kicks some serious ass in anatomy, very good tutorial Dvd.

09 September 2005, 02:26 AM
Very Cool! Lovin the modeling on this one!

09 September 2005, 09:08 AM
i dont say that your model doesnt have any problem at all....but i really like what it is now, in my opinion your model doesnt have to be 100% accurate...fix what you see:thumbsup: bring it on

09 September 2005, 10:41 AM
@ Donsam : Thx a lot Donsam for following this, and yeah still tweaking. There is not a real story behind it just a classical ecological message that human being have some great powers but they often forgot the heavy consequences of their acts...

@ gavin youl : Thx man.

@ Adriano_Zanetti : Oh man don't worry , I'm still there, being obstinate is my second nature, and I want a character at least anatomically correct, besides it will surely improve my anatomy knowledge so , a lot of good points for me  . I know these tutorial DVD and maybe one day I'll go for it , It surely learn me a lot. Still tweaking areas that you mentioned maybe I'll update that later today. Many thanks to you for your help Adriano :bounce: :bounce:

@ frenzymedia : Thx man

@ 3rd user : lol , thanks a lot , I'm tweaking that and it will surely be better , I'll also start the clothe so... Thx for your support.

09 September 2005, 04:17 PM
Body is coming on very fine, I think - the feet are beautiful :)
You got many suggestions on what to improve - I found this ( which perhaps can bring some light on muscular structure for a big guy like yours.

You're doing great - keep going! And much thanks for the tip on Unwrapping

09 September 2005, 08:43 PM
i really think this is a great start on the modeling, ill be looking forward for your next steps

09 September 2005, 10:46 PM
Hi Zapan,

I think your entry could really work.
Looking at the guys anatomy I don't see anything obviously wrong.
It just looks like there's a little more tweaking to go?

Getting into details I've noticed that some of his muscles look a little flat.
To be more specific, his abs, shoulders and thighs look like they need shaping.
Also the back of his hands and the way they meet with the wrists.

Otherwise the face has a lot of character (?) and the proportions seem right.
Bonne Chance pour toi

09 September 2005, 04:49 PM
Hi. One little crit. I think his legs is too buf and doesn't fit the torso. The torso is perfectly modelled by the way.

09 September 2005, 06:35 PM
Yyyyooooo my friend... :buttrock:

great update here, just only critic for me... the legs are a little short (çà manque de muscle par rapport au buste... autant sur la largeur que dans le dessin des muscles, je les trouvent trop discret par rapport au autres...)

thats all for me

hope to see a new update soon

keep the good work my friend! :applause:

09 September 2005, 07:11 AM
good job Zapan
but I think his back need more work :D I will show you some pics to know what I mean:bounce:

(hope this helps:rolleyes: )

09 September 2005, 07:20 AM
• Ahhh, the guy is almost there uh? great job , if he will be clothed on, then i think there is no reason to work more on the muscles of his back, isn't it, anyway, continue having fun!

09 September 2005, 09:32 AM
I was just trying to help

09 September 2005, 06:50 PM (

Hi everybody , here"s the tweaked version of the shoulder/torso. I hop it's getting better.
Many thaks to everybody for your help.

09 September 2005, 06:54 PM (

...and here's the start of the cloth. Many things will probably change.
Comments and crits are really welcomed

09 September 2005, 07:04 PM
@ Gunilla : Thanks again Gunilla for this perfect reference pic. It helps me a lot.

@ rattlesnake : many thanks Jorge , I'm very happy you're following this :bounce:

@ suk-grigorij : Thx a lot man. "Perfectly, perfectly" I really don't say that :scream: but I try doing my best , glad you like it. For the legs I scale it a little but as you can see in the last entry , They will be half hide by the cloth...

@ the best : Don't worry mate, It did help me , thank you man

@ Climax : Woa thanks a lot for your support man , and yeah some part will be hide by the cloth as you can see in the last entry so I will wait and see.
Thanks again Omar for following this.:bounce: :bounce:

09 September 2005, 09:52 PM
Great face modeling.:) Torso is little bit pump. Actually, don't have definition of rib cage.
Cloth and legs are good part.

09 September 2005, 04:51 AM
hi dude :scream:
man you make me sick, so you're good!! great modeling as usual:)
keep it sweet zapounet:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 05:42 AM
Glad to her about the ref pic - and it shows! Legs are much better now and with the clothes you got going... this is turning out really awesome:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 05:50 AM
Nice modeling skills there Stephanie, I would make the cloth less rigid, unless is thick leather or plastic, very nice.. hope to see more soon..

Good luck.!

09 September 2005, 07:04 AM
Fantastic... we feel well his incredible power... even inhis legs and foot :)

09 September 2005, 07:23 AM
amazing... the detail and the feel of an incredibile human, like lemog wrote. wow very accurate modelling

09 September 2005, 07:38 AM (

Hi everybody , here"s the tweaked version of the shoulder/torso. I hop it's getting better.
Many thaks to everybody for your help.

Hi Zapan...very good stuff happening here  ...if u notice all those men that are rally big and taking part in those competitions of the strongest man ..have too much muscle mass on trapezoid muscles(muscles behind neck ..who go dwn side to back shoulders)

U have them too ..but for a normal guy ..yours is big ... :) they need to be pushed out on normals direction and create something like..a hill behind his neck...(sorry for my coffee yet :D ) .

Have fun..very cool stuff..subscribed.

09 September 2005, 07:53 AM
Realy nice :)

09 September 2005, 11:21 AM
@ andreja : Thx man , you're right torso still need some improvement. I'll try to fix that.

@ GI-JOe2k : Youhou thanks a lot Joe , I get you sick ? not too much I hope :scream: , thx buddy , glad you like it :bounce:

@ Gunilla : Thanks Gun , I'll try to keep a good work for the next :)

@ Nakary : Yeah that's right it is still too rigid , actually only the legs cloth and sandals will be in leather, the waist cloth need to be more soft. Thx for your input.

Ps : StéphanIe ? Haha lol , sorry man  (I guess I need to change my avatar :scream: )
@ Lemog / jddog : Thank you guys :bounce: :bounce: , happy you like it...

@ DimitrisLiatsos : Wow thx Dimi , I see what you mean , I will try to improve the model like that, many thx to you for suscribing:bowdown:

@ Elendil : Thx man glad you like it :bounce:

09 September 2005, 12:08 PM
Glade I could help :bounce: and cool updates

09 September 2005, 12:08 PM
wow,dude...really impresive....

09 September 2005, 05:07 PM
@ suk-grigorij : Thx a lot man. "Perfectly, perfectly" I really don't say that :scream: but I try doing my best , glad you like it. For the legs I scale it a little but as you can see in the last entry , They will be half hide by the cloth...

Now I see i'ts OK. Good work. Hey mate, update:bounce: .

09 September 2005, 05:20 PM
Wow, nice work. I liked the proportions and of the details, good work so far.

09 September 2005, 10:02 AM
the modeling is looking amazing man!, the detail on the feet laces are very well done, i relly like your work so far:applause:

09 September 2005, 04:57 PM (

Again modeling cloth, still need to make it a little softer but I spend so much time on these blobby things on the leather :(
I'll fix that in soon.

09 September 2005, 04:58 PM (

Orthographic front view.

09 September 2005, 05:04 PM
@ the best : héhé

@ 3rd user : Thx Pooya.

@ suk-grigorij : oh man I'm damn slow lately , other guys must be half cyborg or something... Plus I think I let me easily be distracted reading all these threads around here :banghead:

@ denverbz : thx man.

@ rattlesnake : Thank you Jorge for all these great words :bounce:

09 September 2005, 05:29 PM
Hi. The last update is cool:thumbsup: .
I'm just not sure about his neck. It looks too massive to me. Also I hink you could add some extradetails (like veins or scars) for you character. Since you got only one character in the scene all attention will be drawn to him, so he must look as better as posible:wise:.

Or you are going to add these extradetails later with textere:curious:?

Whatever you do good luck, Stéphane .

Sorry for poor english.

09 September 2005, 05:31 PM
Great update! i really like the clothes!
Good work Steph!!!

09 September 2005, 05:56 PM
@ suk-grigorij :
Also I hink you could add some extradetails (like veins or scars) for you character. In fact adding details like that now will make the mesh too heavy so I think it will better works for me to get him pose (Which will obviously deform the mesh) and then add veins and stuff, more easily tweakable.
Thx a lot for interest .

@ Nico : thx a lot man glad you like it :bounce:

09 September 2005, 06:00 PM
Very good, zapan, impressive! i liked this upload. The modelling process is very good, the details in the foot and laces around the legs are very well, no critic so far. I'm impatient to see him finished. congrats about work, i liked so much.

09 September 2005, 08:49 PM
Excellent job on the clothes and the character is really starting to come together. I would suggest that you spend some more time on the wrinkles between the chest muscles though because they look a little bit unnatural to me. Also, the abs have large, unnatural looking gaps in between them. Outside of that, great job and good luck!

09 September 2005, 08:34 AM
@ denverbz : :) Thank you so much man I'm also very impatient to see him finished :banghead: , His crisped face start to driving me crazy:arteest: .

@ gardogg : Yeah some areas still aren't right but I kind need to move on and try go forward if I want a finished picture so maybe I'll fix with pose which will deform the model. thx for your support.

09 September 2005, 08:56 AM
wow man,you are remind me of those movies based on old wars and stuff like that...Great,Keep it up:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 12:34 PM
excellent figure ! :applause: and dress details too are really nice and accurate !

09 September 2005, 12:59 PM
That's some sweet character modeling! I love the expression. Looking forward to see what it's like with the textures! Good luck anyways mate ;)

09 September 2005, 03:51 PM
Beautiful model Zapan. Will be back to see how your progressing. work

09 September 2005, 04:06 PM
@ suk-grigorij : oh man I'm damn slow lately , other guys must be half cyborg or something... Plus I think I let me easily be distracted reading all these threads around here :banghead:

HAHAHA. Nope, you're wrong. In fact, all other guys here are just different subpersons of one super-mega-hyper-ultra evil artificial intelegence. Who's only purpose of existance is to distract you from your 3d work during this challenge. BOO:).

09 September 2005, 04:42 PM
cool updates keep it up

09 September 2005, 08:28 PM
Zapan, love the wayy you've approached this guy mate:thumbsup: The muscle tension in his upper torso is cool and he's got great legs man;) Is it just me or are his abs a little narrow? Rock on!...

10 October 2005, 11:49 AM
You're doing great with this big guy - it will be fun to see him posed... no pressure, just a hint

10 October 2005, 12:43 AM
hei Zapan
coool concept! i think you have done excellent modeling here! and the cloths are nice!
and great progress!

10 October 2005, 03:59 PM
hello mate, modeling continues very nice!, i just saw that the hands first finger is posed in line with other fingers, but i think it will take its natural position when rigged right?, but again all those modeling details are superb to me.:wavey:

10 October 2005, 04:15 PM
@ 3rd user : thx man

@ jddog : Merci bcp Julien :bounce:

@ suk-grigorij : ahaha :scream: maybe you're right , Nah I think I stare all these great artist a little too much and I laugh a little too loud because some silly spam from some silly guys :banghead: (no names cited here huh ?) :scream:

@ the best : thx a lot man

@ DaddyMack : thx , it's not just you , you're right , but I guess they won't appear a lot in the final composition , with the tree and the camera angle... I will try to tweak that anyway... thx

@ Gunilla : thank you Gunilla :) , I'm starting the pose for him ... so lot of tweaking now (gloups)
No pressure ? Every single words from you is a lot of pressure :scream: ahah...

@ yunisirees : Thx a lot man.

Ok people start the pose today but as I was afraid (... I was petrified ... ok I'm out ->)
There is a lot of tweaking needed here , I kind have to fix every muscles so it might be a little long to show up something. Thanks to everybody for you're nice words and support.

10 October 2005, 04:19 PM
@ Rattlesnake : oups didn't see your post , thank you mate, I will that finger with the rig and pose , thanks Jorge for your nice words , you're the best :bounce:

10 October 2005, 05:26 PM

No pressure ? Every single words from you is a lot of pressure :scream: ahah...

Hahaha, am I really that terrifying? :scream: Don't worry - you're doing great!

10 October 2005, 07:35 PM

10 October 2005, 08:09 PM
I really like the sandals and the expression on his face, but the torso seems a bit square, and the ars are really stiff. It´s coming along, though!

10 October 2005, 05:54 AM
Bah on va dire que ça le fait, jeune !
J'aime trop comment tu rends l'aspect des habits ! Excellent !

10 October 2005, 09:37 AM
go to the pose mate... you don't have choice now...

it will be fun to see him posed

Oh man sorry for that I better go back to serious work...not sure I will be able to work correctly because I'm way too dumb today.... :banghead:

@ Lemog , Gpepper : le cadet ? Is that a new nickname :scream: ...

10 October 2005, 09:36 AM
Eheheh - That face expression is perfectly suited to that situation!

Ive been pretty quiet on this one of late - thats cos theres nothing to crit on, ive just been watching how youre progressing. Its looking great so far. My only comment would be that his muscles could be a little more defined and OTT to show the sheer strength of him.

10 October 2005, 02:18 PM (

Here the first shot for the pose. Still a lot to do on arms especially hands before adding extra details.
I'm planning add some bark deformation on the tree.Of course every comments and crits are very welcomed.

10 October 2005, 02:28 PM

10 October 2005, 03:07 PM
Really a spectacular pose dude:thumbsup: Are you gonna add more details using z brush, also the camera angle is littlle too tight, maybe you can pull your camera or give more fov, just a suggestion:)

10 October 2005, 03:20 PM
Ah yes! Great start for the pose. Perhaps he could press his chin against the tree some more? That could make the impression of the weight of the tree stronger.
Looking real good so far

10 October 2005, 03:26 PM
En forçant comme ça, il y a des chances qu'il tache son slip ! C'est sûr !
Bon, ok, je prend une pelle et je m'enterre...

10 October 2005, 03:45 PM
@ madshooter : thx man , no I don't know zbrush , but I'm planning learning that soft but not yet , maybe for the next challenge. Concerning the camera angle , in fact this one is really not the final one, It will be more far and also more close from the floor, to have a nicer perspective... Thx for these comments really appreciated.

@ Gunilla : :) , the chin ? hey that's a good idea, thx for the suggestion I'm gonna do that right now...

@ gpepper : Boahahah , maybe the guy need one of these really famous rubber suits ....

10 October 2005, 07:10 PM

Oh I really need to shut up myself eventhough I will show up my tree around christmas..

10 October 2005, 03:17 PM
Good, but try to move his head a little bit to the left shoulder. I mean, that most people performing this kind of action use their shoulders. So put the tree to his right shoulder and move his head to the left shoulder. In this case his pose will be more natural. I think.

10 October 2005, 05:53 PM (

First stage modeling for the tree...
