Hi..the word SPECTACULAR brought instantly in my mind the Chinese Dancers and Martial artists who were dancing at the end of Athens 2004 when they took the Olympic Flag to China.
Although i was watching from TV i was so amazed by they precision and colours and movement....So the spectacular moment i am trying to catch is an Epic moment of their Dance while big Flags wave right and left and dancers moving all around stage like in the way Chinese people are celebrating their New Year's Eve....I am not good at drawing ..i hope although this collage is giving the general idea (Idea No.1)

C&C are always welcomed.

09-06-2005, 12:51 PM
that's a lot of wrinkles u gotta model

09-06-2005, 12:53 PM
oh lal la... keep it up.. I liked it :)

09-06-2005, 12:55 PM
Panu ...heheheh...have no fear (if i decide to model this..) ... ZB is here...(lock and load) :bounce:.

...what am i going to do 3 months...?...wrinkles...:scream: :scream:

@ eYadNesS ...thx...although i am afraid of the hard work and attention it needs....:)

09-06-2005, 01:00 PM
wowow ! Lot's of characters here !
Do U plan to model each of them ?
ZB should be helpful, for sure ! :D

09-06-2005, 01:02 PM
Even though i was in the army during the Olympics, I remember seeing it afterwards... It was really spectacular... Very nice idea... but since it's idea no.1, whats no.2?

09-06-2005, 01:15 PM
not bad at all like idea... :thumbsup:a lot od dynamics, movement and fireworks: spectacular... ! Good concept Dimitris ! :wip: Also I saw idea 1... wait for other ones...

09-06-2005, 01:17 PM
excellent content man them asian performers are mad most spectacular indeed good luck

09-06-2005, 01:18 PM
sounds good to me, you could stylise it!

09-06-2005, 01:24 PM
Panu ...heheheh...have no fear (if i decide to model this..) ... ZB is here...(lock and load) :bounce:.

...what am i going to do 3 months...?...wrinkles...:scream: :scream:

yea better make them really old people too, double the fun u know...

09-06-2005, 01:32 PM
@ gpepper ....:scream: ..hahahah...i am scared already...we will see.

@ ROWAN, anim_ziggy ...yup..that's what i think too and as anim_ziggy says ..they could be very stylised .

@ icedeyes, jddog ...thx guys...idea No.2 is Veeeerryyyy Much inspired by Dusso (http://www.dusso.com) personal works (i love his work...   ...and the scetch is coming soon....

@ Squibbit ... ...do u want me to paint wrinkles for ever?...hahahahahaha ...evil NUT!

09-06-2005, 02:31 PM
This is exciting. Once again we have the honour of having you in the contest Dimi! I like your idea alot and it feels exactly like the kind of thing you would come up with.

Best of luck on this contest, good to see you here once again.

09-06-2005, 02:32 PM
Expect to see updates of progress storming in this thread soon and your mailbox full of this thread replies!!:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Good luck Dimi friend! (what am i saying? he need no luck......i do!)

09-06-2005, 03:12 PM
I really like the idea of this one, because I think that you can have alot of fun with the expressions on the dancers faces, having them caught in mid concentration, or as they land and they let out an 'oof' type sound, actually seeing there mouths half forming those sounds.

Perhaps you could take it 'back in time', and have these martian artists doing the dance as it was in ancient china, for the emporer. Could be a really fun exploration in architecture!

09-06-2005, 03:35 PM
Spiffy idea - it's clear you have developed a craving for multiple character pics with craploads of wrinkly cloth. It's borderline masochistic :D

09-06-2005, 03:35 PM
This sure is a spectacular concept - I'm sure you can make something stunning of it. Good luck!

09-06-2005, 03:43 PM
heya, you've got a very challenging idea... we all know your modelling skills are exceptional so there's no problem there. I think the hardest thing to pull off is the sense of motion and to have everything flowing smoothly like fluid, yet in a still.

I like your idea, the colours have alot of potential. I think more asian female beauties than males, just my 2c. ;p

09-06-2005, 04:43 PM
seems like a good idea which will make you stuck to monitor for 3 mounths.......(keyboards too)

09-06-2005, 04:53 PM
Wow cool concept, gona keep a close eye on you, have fun with the wrickles.

09-06-2005, 07:58 PM
I think this time, you will win your place in the Guiness Book... at pages of "masochist number of polygons"
Anyway... very good idea with this impressive chinese theatral art

09-06-2005, 08:01 PM
Hi Dimitris,

Hope you know the secret weapon when modelling wrinkles! Just consume the inspirational powers of ouzo!!! Nah, being serious again, I guess it's a great idea for a spectacular theme. And a lot of dynamic can be brought into it with the right perspective!

09-06-2005, 08:32 PM
idea No.2 is Veeeerryyyy Much inspired by Dusso (http://www.dusso.com) personal works (i love his work...   ...and the scetch is coming soon....

yeah me too I love Dusseault work... a real master !

09-06-2005, 08:54 PM
Hello Dimitris!!!

What a difficult idea no? i think!

it will be difficult to model all that people... umm, and their dresses... fiiiuuu.

of course, you can :-)

see your progress.

09-06-2005, 10:53 PM
Hey there, this is definitely going to be good!. Good luck

09-07-2005, 12:55 AM
I always enjoy your work. I'm sure this will be another masterpiece...Good Luck (like U need it :) )

09-07-2005, 12:58 AM
Hi Dimitris, hope you have a secret weapon for modeling wrinkles
he does. zbrush :). we all know what a time saver it can be :).

09-07-2005, 03:48 AM
Really neat idea. I like the comp you created. I think it looks a bit too symmetrical but perhaps that's the look you are going after. Cool concept, BTW :)

09-07-2005, 01:48 PM
Ok let's open the beers ! :wise:

Can't wait to see your amazing work Dimitris !

The subject looks interesting, i'm waiting to see your interpretation :)

Good luck mate ! :bounce:

09-07-2005, 02:47 PM
Ok let's open the beers ! :wise: for that, I'm here too... and sorry for spamming here... hahahaha

09-07-2005, 08:12 PM
I see the theme is futureproof!
Best wishes for this challenge and this time "sikose to to..."

09-08-2005, 05:52 AM
A very nice and a promising concept. Start modeling dimmi, you have lot of characters in your scene also I cant wait to see modeling wip.
Keep rocking:thumbsup:

09-08-2005, 10:22 AM
Hi Dimi,

spectacular concept  but also a lot of work indeed.

Just a thought what do you think about a fighting sequence one character vs. two for example on a rope bridge or on a mountain platform (like in LoTR where the spider attacks frodo) somehow I think those characters need some environment which would assist telling a story. Just some thoughts > feel free to ignore them. :)

Wish you good luck for the challenge

Some experiment on an idea by Fahrija (thanks friend)...although i couldn't find a rope bridge to use in this collage.

It's sort of a epical fight near a Saolin Temple. The Lady is standing the way of savage bandits ...behind the High Priest is watching silently.

Please Chinese friends here forgive my ignorance about clothing and design..i am still doing a lot of research on this.

09-08-2005, 01:50 PM
I see flying snow :D

In a way I like this one because it's more action oriented but the other one had the "outstanding show" element that is very captivating.

09-08-2005, 01:50 PM

A fantasy mix between Chinese culture and Dusseault works....Parts of image are of course from his works and they are used only for concept presentation.

Comments and crits are always welcomed.

To all friends here , thanks guys for observations ...it really helps a lot.

09-08-2005, 01:57 PM
I like the 3rd figure added but not so much the face on the right of the "cyborg" of dusso... very interestig feeling...

09-08-2005, 01:57 PM
That concept idea is very cool. It looks like a HUGE amount of work but that's all good though. You've got 3 months right? Good luck and I look forward to seeing more of your wips!

09-08-2005, 02:01 PM
@ jddog ...Dusso's work there on the right is supposed to be a Cy-GOD watching the battle....mmm...maybe it's not a very good idea..(although i like this character ...very much :) )

@ gardogg ..thx..all three are very demanding on work load...but ..it's three months ...:buttrock:

PYKE had a very interesting idea about concept No.1...meaning to show the Dancers for the Chinese New year festival but not modern ...instead in the courtyard of the Chinese Emperor...that was a very interesting addition..thanks Pyke! :)

09-08-2005, 02:04 PM
Oh what a composition. This is so grande I can jus feel it!!!

09-08-2005, 02:24 PM
Western art and eastern art combination. That idea is very cool !

09-08-2005, 02:31 PM
Time for some tough love:

Concept 1A(B?) could work pretty well, definitely worth refining further, whereas Concept 3 (fantasy mix) is a compositional disaster of biblical proportions :D

09-08-2005, 02:43 PM
I'd have to agree with James. A lot of good elements within concept #3, but as a whole the elements do not mix well and the scene looks more cluttered then anything else.

Toning it down and scene #3 could be excellent. My edits would be this:

-Enlarge the temple in the background, make it more a part of the scene. Retain the waterfall and jungle. Remove the massive futuristic tower from the background.
-Keep the characters as they are position wise, etc..
-Make the bridge an ancient stone bridge with two pillars on either side with a statue similar to the Cy-GOD
-To give it the future "look", adjust the characters clothing a bit, enhance the swords, have flying ships in the background.

That would be my take on your idea. What ever you decide, I wish you luck!

09-08-2005, 02:52 PM
Concept 1A(B?) could work pretty well, definitely worth refining further, whereas Concept 3 (fantasy mix) is a compositional disaster of biblical proportions
Sadly, I have to agree with that statement.
The "Chinese dancers" concept has a lot of potential and originality to it that I haven't seen in other entries. However, the last two concepts don't seem very spectacular to me - there's already been a lot "fighting characters" concepts that your last two concepts just don't make themselves unique in the Challenge.

All the best. :)

09-08-2005, 03:44 PM
@ jddog ...Dusso's work there on the right is supposed to be a Cy-GOD watching the battle....mmm...maybe it's not a very good idea..(although i like this character ...very much :)

ha ok this is a very cool idea, but why not place the "god face" on the sky on left more like a classic power ranger scene... whre you have a bigger opening in the scene.
I think he don't fit so perfeclty on right... just a perosnal thought...

09-08-2005, 03:52 PM
I like the waterfall backround!
Make sure the spaceship on top aligns in perspective and doesnt make the image top heavy.

09-08-2005, 03:56 PM
Interesting. If you do a mix-thingie, be sure to get rid of those traditional costumes. Make something crazy! :)

09-08-2005, 04:01 PM
This would definately be spectacular in the spectacle sense but not very clear, just seems like a bunch of stuff... I would pick out the japanese elements and amplify them.

09-08-2005, 04:25 PM
• Interesting concept Dim, I like the idea, Go for it!

09-08-2005, 04:43 PM
Waouh ! It's a very complex concept, but it's fine !

Good luck !

09-08-2005, 05:17 PM
Wow Dimitris.... this could be amazing! Loads of stuff! And yeah... have some fun with the costumes! Costumes are always fun to design. Just be careful you don't give yourself too much work... if you don't mind me saying...?

09-08-2005, 05:33 PM
Spectacular looking sketch , i love martial arts, respect!

09-08-2005, 08:24 PM
wooow...so were talkin...crouching tiger, hidden klingon bird of prey lol

09-09-2005, 05:15 AM
haha, just "crouching tiger , hidden klingon" would be cool too

yea sweet concept there, Dimi ... you gonna make those
ships in the bg like HUGE? cuz it would be cool :) ...

hey how about u make a pic where those aliens have invaded
some place where a temple stood and these oriental guys
come forth to defend their temple and land and the pic would
be of a situation where one of them monks or whatever has
just jumped past the first attackers , doing a somersault in the
air . In the pic the monk dude would be landing, his feet just
a few inches off the ground anf there would be a bunch of
armless , headless and gutted invaders behind him, the severed
members being seen still flying in the air.. ?

09-09-2005, 05:48 AM
MMMhhh I like the melting pot of the third... the spectacular can be also discovered in disproportion and the strange, really good my BublePotatoeHead :lightbulb

09-09-2005, 05:53 AM
that loos pretty difficult good luck, holla!

09-09-2005, 08:27 AM
Time for some tough love:

Concept 1A(B?) could work pretty well, definitely worth refining further, whereas Concept 3 (fantasy mix) is a compositional disaster of biblical proportions :D

OK this is SO TRUE..forgive me for showing this...i am kinda going NUT sometimes :scream: .

When i woke up today i had a much more clear position of characters in Concept 1 (the Chinese New Year's festival) .
I also wanna try to model Asian characters ..never tried that (ok...maybe accidently ..lol )...
and second i wanna play with cloth in a sculptingmanner like Poshspice said (..and i don't my friend...the thing is that really i am heading for a lot of work with this...lol).

What was a very good idea was what Pyke said...i will try to transfer this to the old China.
Where all the warriors and dancers were performing in the Emperor's yard. So i will try to givit a more traditional and old look.

And now that i have said all this and i am thinking the workload...i can go quietly and commit sepuku. :banghead:

Thanks friends for all observations...u were most helpfull....

p.s ...concept 3 (fantasy mix)...what i was thinking?:banghead:

09-09-2005, 08:32 AM
wow!! :bounce: good luck !!

09-09-2005, 08:39 AM
wow it seems like a huge project !! with all thoses things to do, we are goin to have updates every hours for three months ! :)

09-09-2005, 08:49 AM
I must say the dancer one seemed more spectacular to your second concept. But the third has something more to it... As mentioned above, ditch the traditional costumes!

09-09-2005, 08:56 AM
Man, this is so full! I like your concept very much. I like just searching around the sketch.
Big challenge, very big :)

Good luck!

09-09-2005, 09:25 AM
cool as always ! a very much adrenalin filled concept :) and good luck man!

09-09-2005, 09:35 AM
What are you trying to do??!!

One zillion Polygons??! 2gigs of textures...

... HE IS A MAD MAN... A MAD MAN !! :scream: :buttrock: ha ha ha

09-09-2005, 09:44 AM
I like the fantasy mix sketch 3 but where is the story ?? Fighting before the aliens kill us?? or eat?? :D

Anyway the big spacecraft looks spectacular then it`s a good pint to focus.

09-09-2005, 10:13 AM
my vote on the 3'th one....specialy the spaceship on backgound.....the god is so so.....

but it can be nice to see You doing it in Multibillion Polymodels:thumbsup:

....another thought.

Comments and crits are welcomed.

09-09-2005, 03:21 PM
I like very much the consept No4

The woman in red in background with the tree and the yellow leaves is fantastic (fantastic Ice-face-expression, Hair-style, colours, clothes...).
I would prefer though a classic Chinese rock bridge with beautiful rock statues.
Also I would like, the man on the bridge to fight with demons Samurai (Samurai with full armor !!! crazy level of polygons xaxaxa) to keep the bridge and save the lady:) :) And the samurai to have red eyes and flame swords and black armor which steams from knees, elbows, helmets... And And and....ok end xaxaxa

Great Work man i love your collage u have unique style, you create new system in Concept Sketch process

09-09-2005, 04:06 PM
I vote for concept 4:thumbsup:

09-09-2005, 04:10 PM
Hello DimitrisLiatsos, man... I must say that you've got me very curious and anxious for more. Nice to see you again. Good luck.

09-09-2005, 06:01 PM
I still like concept no. 1! It has a lot of potential.

09-09-2005, 06:10 PM
OK this is SO TRUE..forgive me for showing this...i am kinda going NUT sometimes :scream: .
Nooooooooooo... It's unforgivable! :scream:

Concept 4 and 5 look really good though, particularly 4... I think... right now... yep, 4 is very good (5 too)

09-09-2005, 06:11 PM
I prefer concept 5.
There is more motion involved and a more impressive image can be achieved, plus it is closer to the theme "Spectacular" with the "wow" element.
My $0.2 suggestions:
I would move that Chinese tower elsewhere, it kinda ruins the waterfall.
Try to put a natural element like a sun, or clouds with Gods rays for some interesting effect. The building could go to either side and complement the other side with some foreground trees or something.
I would also think the waterfal might be more impressive if it was not flat on straight, but in some angle to give some perspective.
A good reference for such martial art action scenes beautifully made is the "House of the Flying daggers".
Get a dvd, and enjoy inspiring images.... or is this orange figure from there?

09-09-2005, 10:25 PM
I like concept 5 best too.

09-09-2005, 10:38 PM
Hi Dimi, great work with the concepts so far.
Since your going to make a battle i guess something betweem good/evil would be cool.U could "split" the image into "halfs", like say 2 worlds crashing to one another while the battle occurs.
Dont know i m just poping ideas.
Keep it up man.

09-09-2005, 10:46 PM
I am liking concept 4 a lot more than 5  Two lonely souls in struggle

But I have to ask why are those two on the background?

09-10-2005, 05:11 AM
My vote is on concept 4. Not sure about the person in the back right. The one of the left seems to be watching the fight in anger, or perhaps sadness. The tower is much better. Perhaps add some rocks to break up the waterfall? Or statues?

Keep it up! I like the concept. The waterfalls make for a spectacular backdrop!

09-10-2005, 05:19 AM
Awesome concepts. I Personally prefer concept number 4, there seems to be more to it than just a huge fight. Anyways, wish you best of luck bud.

09-10-2005, 09:15 AM
Latest concept is my favourite...Very nice..clothes , enviroments , charecters nice concept...

09-10-2005, 10:59 AM
don't like at all concept 4 (very personal btw) 5 is more dynamic...

09-11-2005, 09:50 AM
Usually spectacular leads the human mind to things he cannot achieve or cannot do.Consider of adding a motion more emmmm. "matrixed"..... (?????)... like one of the fighters in the air having a pose like the ones you see in the movies... Ang Lee's crouching tiger hidden dragon has a lot of (in my opinion) spectacular chinese fights with elements of dance which could be helpful or the hero with Jet Lee may give you some more ideas (like the scene with the two fighters on the water) if I remember well...

My vote is the background of concept 4 with the fighters of concept 5... And I aggree with Sun about the woman in red....

Great work with the images!!! A hole new world of concept sketching is about to begin from the hands of mr Liatsos

09-11-2005, 11:55 AM
I like the latest concept. the "HERO" scenes which Dimitris got inspired where amazing and i think its going to be amazing :D Keep it up man

09-11-2005, 02:55 PM
Well, man. Very difference from others. Martial art!
Very good idea indeed. I think you may use a little bit more lower angle of camera. And the action of fighters should a little bit more closer. I wish it has more movement in the shot.

09-11-2005, 03:43 PM
H dimitis! yeah thats ur them! something historic! keep it up!:D good luck!

09-11-2005, 05:07 PM
The concept 5 is good, try rotate the camera to see the orange samurai more .
Maybe a samurai in the air and falling above other samurai, with the sword almost cutting.
Its goodd.
Good luck

09-11-2005, 05:10 PM
I really like you concept.

09-13-2005, 09:06 AM
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7835/7835_1126602404_medium.jpg (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7835/7835_1126602404_large.jpg)

The Sound of Rain and Swords .

The two men are standing still watching eachother trying to see what will be the next move ...they both move like thunder...Rain is falling with thick heavy drops..time seems to be slowing down ...the place is the yard of a recreation center for chess players...some stairs back an old man is playing a traditional Chinese musical instrument making the fighters concetrate more to eachother's eyes...it is said that Music And The Art of Sword is lifting up the Spirit of a Warrior. The Lady Killer is watching ...she waits for the one who will prevale..He will be her next victim...she will fight with the best Swordsman.

I got inspired from a very strong sequence in Yimou's film, "HERO" with Jet Li. I find this Sequence one of the most spectacular 'cuase of the colors, music and more which words really can't describe.

Balance - Spirituality - Beauty - Courage.

I hope i will be able to do this 'cuase it's not easy to achieve the beauty of a culture with History of thousands of years.

P.S : Becuase i am still in a friend's connection i am not able to answer to each one of u friends. But thanks vry much for all the help. Soon i will be able to say more. Modeling styarts this weekend.

Comments and Crits are welcomed.

09-13-2005, 09:19 AM
Ok.. here it goes dimitri... although i like concept 5 (the best of the fight related ones) more than the last, i must say that the first one with the chinese dancers was the best mostly because a fight is something you see a lot of in terms of spectacular scenes... Chinese dancers though..... They are something special... It just clicks better in me...

09-13-2005, 09:26 AM
The bottom 50% of that one... yep. Particularly implemented as a fast panning shot like that with a motionblurred background.... do something around that, it will give the image a solid pivot point, a center of gravity, a Lorenz attractor :D (that's what the other concepts lacked I think)

Now GO GO GO! :wip:

09-13-2005, 09:28 AM
The incredible Dim will do it again !
I'm happy to see this one. I won't wish you luck since everyone has done it before me (and according to your tallent, I don't beleive luck has anything to do in your work's achivement).

Anyway, I will give you my best support ! Go gogogogogo !:buttrock:

09-13-2005, 09:31 AM
I humbly await your progress...

09-13-2005, 10:05 AM
Thanks guys ..:)

The truth is now that i am fighting to choose between Concept 1 and Concept 6....

Concept 1 ...has that different element (festive and spectacular)

Concept 6 ..has that warrior - traditional fight element...note that if i make this ...it won't be a pan blurred shot ..it will be a slow motion time still where even the drops splaching on floor will be ...acting...

>>> got to choose...:banghead:  :banghead:

09-13-2005, 10:12 AM
If you must do a movie... for sure, I prefer the #6...

but for an expressive still image... it's the #1... more sensitive and imaginative

09-13-2005, 10:17 AM
hi DimitrisLiatsos
concept 6 looks more cool man! how about a go between just a thought!:argh:
cheers mate!

09-13-2005, 10:29 AM
got to choose...:banghead:  :banghead:
Very tricky... I won't even try to push in any direction - you just have to ask yourself which one you will be able to execute in such a way that the first reaction from an unsuspecting viewer of the final image is "WOW!" followed by "YIPES!" :wise:

09-13-2005, 12:08 PM
Very tricky... I won't even try to push in any direction - you just have to ask yourself which one you will be able to execute in such a way that the first reaction from an unsuspecting viewer of the final image is "WOW!" followed by "YIPES!" :wise:

Thanks Wabbit...i think u have just given me the answer i needed..:bounce: ..especially that "YIPES" point made it very clear ...hehehe.

 ...must fire now that modeling engine..(running for fuel...)

09-13-2005, 12:37 PM
Yes, "yipes" is important according to the brief :D

Now finish that jug of coffee and get busy!

09-13-2005, 01:04 PM
i think the "Yipes" and "wow" and "omg" expressions together with the appropriate smile will sure be used in this thread :D

09-13-2005, 01:18 PM
Maybe it is time to begin Dimitris !? isn't it ?

09-13-2005, 01:27 PM
I really like your concepts, but I can't wait to your first models...

09-13-2005, 01:30 PM
 Good luck mate

09-13-2005, 01:50 PM
Hi old good friend ;)

Hey im sure that's im going to make a new wallpaper with your job, when it will be done 8)

09-13-2005, 02:23 PM
I don't have critic to do. I liked more this sketch which other. I'm impatient to see the 3D entry. Good work

09-13-2005, 03:04 PM
hey mate. Some really exceptional stuff coming through here! I must say that while I prefer the emotions that can come from concept 4, I prefer the action feel of concept 5.

I love concept 6 (Hero is one of my favorite movies...the fight scenes in that are beyond awsome!) - maybe taking some of the emotions in concept 4 with the setting and movement in concept 6? So the lady wouldnt be the 'executioner' - but rather they would be fighting for her love?

09-13-2005, 05:56 PM
Dude, pick a concept already... the waiting is killing me.

09-13-2005, 06:08 PM
You don't have a clue of what to do, right Dimitris?
I'm joking mate... I imagine that's hard choise with all the great material you have, but come on... I'M LOSSING MY PACIENCE HERE :) please!

09-13-2005, 10:24 PM
Yes, like claudio... now... my patience is waiting polygons Dimi... :deal:

09-14-2005, 04:54 AM
Yeah, cant wait to see the models:)

09-14-2005, 05:13 AM
wow!cool concept.I realy love the movie.will wait to see your model.good luck.

09-14-2005, 06:24 AM
I love martial-arts film. That's a very spectacular pleasure. I'm looking forward how you catch the spirit and action of it. Concept 6 is very cool. Hope to see more soon.

09-14-2005, 08:35 AM
Hi friends....waiting is killing me too..:scream: .

Because i moved to a new apartment ...i will have computers running and Internet until the weekend...all i have right now is a 12'' powerbook :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: .

Also ...indeed i was a bit confused what to choose ...but i think i made my decision , thanks to your help too. I saw again last night Yimou's "HERO" ...and yup ..i will made a scene based on Concept 6 more or less ..also i will keep in mind the idea that Pyke said....the lady standing away and watching the warriors fight isn't going to fight with the winner. She is watching in great agony two men fighting for her ..and the truth is that she doesn't want anyone to be killed.

Again sorry for my short answers. Thanks for all the help with this.

09-14-2005, 08:45 AM
...all i have right now is a 12'' powerbook

09-14-2005, 09:58 AM
I think i know that powerbook :D .Patience my friend. You will soon start modelling. I know it can be touch ithout it :D

09-14-2005, 10:42 AM
 Cool concept, I hope to see some great stuff out of you, will be keeping and eye on you!

09-14-2005, 05:48 PM
Wow you started ?! How could i miss this one?

good luck, nice theme

(well Tsui Hark's Blade is less spectacular, but maybe closer to your theme?)

09-14-2005, 08:55 PM
Woah! powerful concept... I vote for number 4 :D

09-16-2005, 06:33 AM
So finally you have decided to go with concept6. Cool decision dude:thumbsup:

09-16-2005, 07:09 AM
Always liked Jet Lee :)

Good luck to you.

09-16-2005, 07:19 AM
Even with a 12'' you 're gonna do great work! Shoot em up Dimi! The challenge is yours!

09-16-2005, 01:57 PM

I have to start someday (after watching the movie about a dozen times..)

So ..here is a first wip on the first fighter named Thunder.

A lot of things to tweak yet ..but it's a start.

C&C are welcomed of course.

09-16-2005, 02:06 PM
ah dimitris finaly!so concept 6 it is! and a good start at that! the head looks fine if i ever saw one!
cheers and let the real fun begin!

09-16-2005, 02:11 PM

...more tweaking on him...i might soon move him to ZB i think.

C&C are welcomed.

09-16-2005, 03:12 PM
finally polygons are here...
mmm ... eye and lips don't fell perfectly an asian figure second me... but is a personal pov...

09-16-2005, 03:22 PM
@ yunisirees,Rotab3D ... Thanks guys..it needs a lot of work more ...but it's a start.

@ jddog ...Eyes u are right, i am still trying to find the correct form...lips..mmm..not very sure..i was watching the actor last night on the DVD ..he surely has big lips...but ..i will check this again..'cuase there is always a possibilty for making a mistake (me i meen.. :) ).

:banghead: :wip: :wip: :banghead:.

09-16-2005, 04:03 PM
Yes! modeling has begun! I've been following your work for quite a while and I've noticed something with your charaters. The jaws are always extremely pronounced. I beleive in the type of character your making, the jaw is more "V"-like (from the front) instead of "U"-like (for lack of a better word) But keep it up, your skills are outstanding.

09-16-2005, 04:18 PM
Alright, here we go... :) great start Dimitris.

09-16-2005, 05:17 PM
ahhh it's started!!! Well i'm agree with last C&C !
So waiting to see next updates :bounce:

09-16-2005, 05:21 PM
good progress .:)

09-16-2005, 05:38 PM
Great start dimmi:thumbsup:

09-16-2005, 05:56 PM
Love, polys, music, baby!

Good to see we have lift-off, Dimitris. Agree about the points made about the lips, otherwise very sporty modeling... oh, and the V-shaped jaw/chin point is good too, I think that would be more in character with the.... er.... character.

09-16-2005, 05:59 PM
And the magic begins... From the hands of mr Liatsos to our monitors... Can't wait to see more!

09-16-2005, 06:07 PM
Good modelling has started. Great!! love the character . nice clean modelling. Are you going to make him oriental in nature dimitri? just one comment from me. The lips are too puffy i think in comparison to the overall shape of the head and his chickbones are not as apparent as him jaw lines . IMHO . can't wait to see the zbrushed model.:scream::thumbsup: :wip:

09-16-2005, 07:23 PM
• Hi there Dim! nice start in 3D
I see the wires and It looks like it's max what u r using, I would like to know if u can somehow explain me how do you make the displacement in Zbrush, do u import the low res from max (or any other package) to z brush and then add the detail there?, then what? do u export the disp. map or the high res? I'll appreciate your help....also i am interested in seeing what hair method you will use.

• Hope you don't mind taking some time for an old friend :D See ya!

09-16-2005, 08:52 PM
Hi Dimmi.
you picked interesting concept.I enjoy the world of samurai warriors, shaolin monks and
theese kind of themes. It would be cool If cg someday makes a challenge of this size
but with animation category beside 3d and 2d.Your task is about pure move as I understand it.

Anyways, looking forward for more updates and to witness this wip become a final one more time.Seeya arround man.

Mwaahaahaa! Har aldrig provat själv, men det verkar OK :D

koita oreksi pou exete proi proi!

09-16-2005, 08:58 PM
Great concept Dimi. With the model, I think the eyebrows need to be a bit more defined, especially where the head turns to become more flat then round (uh, hope you understand what I meant). Also the nose looks like the center needs to be scaled down a bit, and the blending of the nose into the face could be a bit more blunt (makes the nose look a bit wider above the nostrils, not sure if I'm making any sense). Keep it up:bounce: .

09-16-2005, 09:10 PM
nice head model! good luck man hollaz!

09-16-2005, 09:16 PM

Precisely! Took the words right out of my mouth there!

I think....

09-17-2005, 09:01 AM
Modeling cession "ON" -> really good thing...

Your head start well... just need tweaking now... good continuation mate and lt's play the magical fun

09-18-2005, 05:27 AM
Just like everybody else has said, very good start. I really look forward to see what you come up with in zbrush :D

Dimmi, Man the thunder warrior looks awesome, I have no crits it is simply rocking:buttrock: :buttrock:
It seems you have become the master of zbrush, Best part is the hair. I can't wait to see it textured.
Keep up the good work dude:thumbsup:

09-19-2005, 09:02 AM
hi Dimtris
cool modeling progress and great zbrushing as ever! hmm one thing though maybe you could slant the end corner of the eye a bit up to bring that orientalness!
great progress!
cheers man!

09-19-2005, 09:25 AM
@ jddog ,JamesMK ... lips are better now...yup ..u were right..i stand corrected  .

@ spirogyro ..hi man....about jaw in my pips. U are right ..i am kinda carried away always and i am giving them a strong jaw (sometimes as in coming books)...i think it kinda gives them more power...but i am trying to get better at this...volume of face in a 3d character is something fascinating and i think a kinda diffucult thinky...but i am trying to understand it's secrets.

@ claudio_jordao, collings, Ramtin_moom, madshooter , IpiotisDinos ...thanks friends :) .

@ Agamemnwn ...sure man...at least when i will have internet again in the new flat..(still on borrowed time) :scream:

@ Climax ... hi man..no it's not MAX ..it's XSI , my max days are long gone...about ZBrush Displacement and all procedure...it needs a lot of lines actually to explain this in words...the best thing i can do right now is to tell u that u need to storeMT the base model u import in ZB and when u export the displacement map u have to have your base model on that rez and don't open the Displ.Map in Photoshop and save it again (..more details needed here...i have written them somewhere...) 'cuase it kinda destroys the info of the image. Also ..here is a link with the Subforum in ZBRUSH Central where u can find a lot of info on this ...Click ME (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/forumdisplay.php?s=&f=19&page=1&pp=40&sort=views&order=desc&daysprune=-1)
Give me some days..i will be online again in MSN and i will probably be able to help u more on this.

@ Air, ace4016 ...thanks friends...yup ace..i think i fixed a lot on this...thx man :) .

@ beelow , Lemog The Frenchy Nut Modeler , nemirc, keetnum, My little Gpepper...thanks friends.

@ madshooter ...me ?..master of Zb...naaaahhh...but it sure tremendous fun in ZB..u kinda forget u are working with 3D.

@ Yunisirees...hey ..thanks man...will try that...i am still fighting with the oriental look...but i will find it...possibly...maybe ...errr...perhaps...eventually :scream: . Thx mate.

Thx friends ..i will be viviting every one's thread soon..if i have connection :scream: ...

09-19-2005, 09:30 AM

Dimi strikes again. :buttrock:

Cool hair modelling > damn, no "plugin" more work.
I didn´t know you´re working with both programms. (xsi-maya)

09-19-2005, 09:54 AM
Looks amazingly good now, Dimi! The hair is coming along really fine as well, it has just the right curves and everything

Great job master Dim !

09-19-2005, 10:20 AM
Ouwwwww that kills dimi that kills!
Respects my coco :) I stay open-mouthed :scream: ! Bravo !

09-19-2005, 11:04 AM
nice zbrushing... looking cool..
The eyes look a bit sharp on the edges though, it shouldn't extrude out and make a 'rim' around the eye.. just my 2c

09-19-2005, 11:04 AM
Hi Dimitri, it looks great :D :D amazing job zbrushing the face to get all the faces wrincles and outline the facial characteristics :bounce:

09-19-2005, 11:05 AM
can't wait to see him texture:)
good luck

09-19-2005, 11:07 AM

09-19-2005, 01:24 PM
Hi dimmi.

Very cool zbrushing :buttrock:

If the face is looking this good I can't wait to see the outfit.
Can't XSI generate hair? Now this is going to be a problem...

09-20-2005, 03:03 AM
It's looking great but I just don't see him as very Asian looking. Not sure if it's the eyes or the face isn't rounded enough.

09-20-2005, 03:10 AM
I realy want to see this finished...

09-20-2005, 03:52 AM
Wow, great head so far. Looking very promising for the prize (^_^)

09-20-2005, 06:56 AM
I like your solution for the hair!

09-20-2005, 08:21 AM

...err...guys thanks for observations..I tried to tweak a bit more the face of THUNDER...adjusted more eyes and a bit rounded face on him to look more Oriental.

Ponytail adjustments , after experiments, i think is better to stay in XSI for rigging purposes in first part...i might tweak it more along the way, i found also some interesting things in Projection Master with the use of a 4k texture of hair ...yikes...that was amazing....(soon).
My effort is to finish the complete model until the end of next week ...

C&C are welcomed.

09-20-2005, 10:43 AM
Always and still incredible !:wise:
You really annoy zbrush !
Bravo dim i! You tear everything !! :applause:

09-20-2005, 11:40 AM
Very nice model dimitri but imho he doesn't look oriental enough at the moment... My suggestion is to soften the skin (a very unique oriental characteristic), make the face more flat (most asian people have a much flatter face than europeans), make the jaw more square-ish and make the cheeks stand out a bit more...

Some images that might help to illustrate what i am talking about:

chinese warrior statue (http://www.acad.carleton.edu/curricular/POSC/Beijing/LpcXianStat.jpg), another statue (http://www.math.ualberta.ca/%7Ervmoody/rvmphoto/p14.jpg), chinese man (http://www.camh.net/egambling/issue9/photos/Wong-John.jpg), older photo (http://www.obkb.com/dcljr/IMAGES/beauty/univlman.jpg)

Looking great so far Dimitris! :)
Are you gonna use PSD files for the hair?
if so, I hope you have the time to show us your render node in XSI! :scream:
Good luck mate!

09-20-2005, 11:57 AM
good and clean model dimitris,,,always better and better:thumbsup:

09-20-2005, 12:16 PM
@ nemirc ..yup XSI can generate hair ..just not my version (XSI Foundation) :).

@ Pgraphics, icedeyes ... u are right friends..the thing is that the real character is not so round -face character ...his opponent on the other hand (Jet Li) is ...he has more pronounced upper cheeks...and smaller chin..i have a very close front of the character which i make as THUNDER...let me soon show more ..maybe it looks very close ...otherwise i will work more on his face....

@ MadnesS, Yongkiat, dvelasco, claudio_jordao, cipher, flaeticia, kmest ... thanks friends...it still has a long way to go...:banghead::wip::wip:

@ Hooch ...i will use texture files for hair ..yes ...the matter is that i am thinking of tottaly utilize Projection Master (ZB) for producing the final texture of hair... Caroline Delen's (
presentation helped a lot my thinking on this...it's on ZBrush Central.
And finally i will make the Render tree in XSI...which i will of courte post here. :)

09-20-2005, 12:24 PM
Thanks for the link man!
I'll check it out & I'll stay close to your progress to see that Render tree! :applause:

Keep it coming!

This is going to be a rigging nightmare...

Sad but true

I am really interested on seeing what you come up with. That kind of outfit is not something you see all days... at least not in 3D  What are you using? polys? subdivs?

09-21-2005, 05:17 AM
I think you used the good technic for this particular clothes modeling, but I'm very curious to see how you will rig him... :banghead:

Good courage

...guys thanks ..i think i found a very good solution for the rigging part of this...The thing that i know what to do in MAYA...now i have to tranfser all the procedure in XSI...hahah...it's a good learning way to learn more stuf in XSI..heheh...also it has to do much with smart Displacements in ZB...so i think i will be ok...err...i i hope....:scream: .
