after crunching my head , I think I will try to create the spectacular minute of the show , the culture that have several hundread years history will amaze the audience , with movement , ornament , storytelling .

Kabuki is a traditional Japanese form of theater with its origins in the Edo period. Kabuki, in contrast to the older surviving Japanese art forms such as No, was the popular culture of the townspeople and not of the higher social classes.

Kabuki plays are about historical events, moral conflicts in love relationships and the like. The actors use an old fashioned language which is difficult to understand even for some Japanese people. They speak in a monotonous voice and are accompanied by traditional Japanese instruments.
here is some reference, and I will add my own story and design to have more fantasy or something! hope you enjoy

here is my concept ,
it's the minute of dead , the assasination in "kabuki" show , the audience will enjoy the spectacularity of the performance but dont' know that the assasination is real! I try to represent the beauty of hundread-years history performance and mix with my own style , hope it's works

09-17-2005, 01:27 PM
Finaly you decided to cook something special.
Like the sketch,I have menioned once here,,I like samurai stuff, but then again, who does not.

not only skill, you always choose terrific subject.
more addicted then ever, more impatient to see how you'll manage this one.
(i heard kabuki has a lot of sophisticated codes, like position of hands, foot, and body etc...)
plus if you go on a modernised vision of it, it will certainly be numero uno for me.

keep amazing us

Great start - want to see more!

10-17-2005, 02:44 PM (

Hi! another head progression I model today , it's quick because i use the manhead model and modified it ,

10-17-2005, 02:47 PM
Great... maybe the nostrils a little bit too strong for a geisha... but it's certainly too early to do some constructive crits... go Monsit

10-17-2005, 06:09 PM
People like you make me wanna be thankful that I am into animation instead of modeling :scream:

10-18-2005, 10:43 AM
yop, just like LeNUTSmog, and read your lines, but still very heavy for a geisha. Do you say oval in english? And much more overall flat face, just nose that's should be flat (but more fine). Mooth should be easyer since main effect will come from the make up. Maybe a smoothed mesh filter than few tweaks? But i suppose appart the fact you're an excelent modeller, the colors will be kind of main powerfull subject for this image...?
Well, you allready know all that haha!
New challenge for Monsitj: no time on that but still doing great job!

Harder challenge, better reward !

10-18-2005, 03:47 PM
lemog : thanks man! I agree with you about her nose ! more tweak!!
nemric: hehe ! hey man! your model is awesome too!
shtl: yeah! I think now I'm a little bit under pressure about to finish on time ! but hey , this challenge is for fun! so I think I 'll do my best and have fun with it , thanks for comments man!

10-18-2005, 03:51 PM (

update low res model , I will rig this model and pose it, then I add more detail to model , a lot of model stuff !

10-18-2005, 03:59 PM
pretty good modeling monsitj.keep it up.

10-18-2005, 05:33 PM
yeah,thats right,agree with CUBISIS! keep it up!

10-18-2005, 11:00 PM
hey monsitj nice to see you getting started too :) and nice idea doing the rig-n-pose early, unlike me last time having to rig the high-poly/cloth characters (stupid me). Keep things coming man really look forward to your stuff.

10-19-2005, 01:03 PM
cool work waiting to see the detailed version

10-19-2005, 01:07 PM

10-20-2005, 08:56 AM

10-20-2005, 06:46 PM (

here is the man charactor in image , I plan to use fur for his hair ,but dont' sure , maybe if geomery works better, don't know,
c n c are welcome

10-21-2005, 03:49 AM
Faces are very good man, very expressive

About hairs, I think to keep in the style, geometry can work better than the fur, but in over hand, I don't have a long experience of fur...

10-21-2005, 03:52 AM
very very good!
the face is very expressive as Lemog said, the geometry is perfect tome..godd job

10-21-2005, 04:52 AM
I also think geometry is the way to go. Setting up the fur would be a pain.

10-21-2005, 06:08 AM
great start on your caracters, loking forevard for next update mate.
see you and

10-21-2005, 11:10 AM
hmmmm, the face expression is very good, isnt it a bit exaggerated? and first off,is this going to be a realistic looking scen, what is the cue?

10-21-2005, 11:38 AM
Wonderful modeling so far, Monsit! No crits, just jumping as usual :bounce:

10-21-2005, 11:43 AM
Awesome head Monsit, great use of polys and really expressive, no crits :bounce: :bounce:

10-21-2005, 01:50 PM
oooooh no man....why....why you always make cool models, and make me look like an amateur?.....

10-21-2005, 02:26 PM
that's really Great, i like your Modeling:thumbsup:

10-21-2005, 02:41 PM
Yup...clean modeling once more...and a very expressional face.....:)

10-21-2005, 03:16 PM
It looks pretty good. The side of the neck to the viewer's left has a sharp irregularity that looks awkward though. Also, the teeth seem a bit too rounded to me. This might not show up though when you add textures. Good job so far!

10-21-2005, 06:01 PM
Great concept and good execution on the 3D model na ka TOmy !:applause: Keep it up i'm looking forward for more update. .I hope u success na ka .Good luck in the challenge enjoy your work na ka .Don't work hard care your health. I standbeside u everytime.Tomy.....:buttrock:na.

10-22-2005, 04:54 AM
oooooh no man....why....why you always make cool models, and make me look like an amateur?.....

I think this guy enjoys waving his hands at us while he sings "I am better than you are" :bounce:

Just kidding pal :D

10-22-2005, 07:17 AM
Lemog ,rattlesnake, nemirc: yeah ! i think fur is a pain with high resolution render, maybe geomery map should work,
alex.h. : thanks man!
Madlight_1988 : I try to exaggerate but not too much , I want surreal look , I don't know what will come out too hehehe
Gunilla,Zapan,melkao,3rd user,DimitrisLiatsos : hehe many thanks friend!:bounce:

10-22-2005, 09:32 AM
Hello monsijt.

If I actually have difficulty to imagine the entire scene of your challenge, I can say the modelisation is promising. Especially the girl. So well uupdates, updates often. :scream:

Good luck.

10-22-2005, 09:39 AM
the geisha looks great so far, and the head ornaments are fantastic..

the jaw looks a bit too round though, even for a angry expression...

10-22-2005, 03:17 PM
What are those things tucking out of the back of her neck?

10-22-2005, 03:25 PM
cool modeling so far

10-23-2005, 03:37 PM
Good modeling. I think that the bottom half of the nose should be scaled out. It looks a bit too narrow right now.

10-23-2005, 05:22 PM
OH! wow TOmy:eek:
The face with latest look great. :thumbsup:Character face geisha looks ferocious.
Very nice update ,hurry up.l'm looking for more update.Don't work hard .Care ur health.Goodnight na ka......Tomy......:buttrock::buttrock: na.

10-23-2005, 06:24 PM
authentic : thanks vincent! I will try to finish it and update often!:)
Versiden : Hi! yeah , need more tweak for her jaw,
nemirc : I don't sure , but maybe a piece of paper or silk , I model base on refrence but not 100% accurate:scream:
the best : thanks man!
gardogg : yes , thanks for comments ! I agree , more tweak!

10-23-2005, 06:32 PM (

after modeling work and low poly rig , I pose them for final image lay out , and I will begin my detail work here! work this way is risk( I think) because I can't go back to repose them , anyway I paint over for clear idea what will come out in final, comment are welcome!

10-23-2005, 06:36 PM

10-23-2005, 06:52 PM

wow....Cool.... nice paiting over.... that will be awsome:thumbsup:

10-24-2005, 04:50 AM
Of course, very dangerous way... but I know you... that certainly not a real prob... and when you see the pose project... I'm not afraid... that perfect for me

10-24-2005, 05:51 AM
hey man..the pose is very dramatical..i thikn this will work, i can suggest that the man can lean the head more to his left..just a bit add a more agressive pose, closer than the one u show in the sketch...maybe a halfway of that, ...cant wait for the details work, youre going to rock!!..cant wait:bounce::bounce::buttrock::applause:

10-24-2005, 07:10 AM
Great pose , very dramatic and dynamic :applause:

I agree with Rattlesnake's comment concerning the guy's pose.

Stunning work so far Monsit :bounce: :bounce:

Hope (sure ;) ) you'll achieve to keep the life of your rough in the 3d composition.
This rough is just veeeeerrrry nice, i really admire the dynamism of it. And i think it's hard to keep a rough life in a very fine execution. But knowing a little your work, it's very promising.

Wainting next update!

10-26-2005, 09:04 AM
hey you'll make it without no doubt!
Fast and inteligent work!
(Love thoose rope accessories)
You did excelent job of composition! Every thing just in place, eye very well directed from charactere eyes to head, head to members, members to hand etc... Strong part allready very well composited
This is truely good.

The samourai allready have a very nice pos. So happy you puted up his left leg ^_^
Geisha's position of hands will be VERY important me think... Sure left one handling the short blade, but right one, not to present but still delicate...
Just my opinion, but they two looks a little to much natural, (wich isn't bad), but especialy the girl. So it would be great to have a more "fine" or "delicate" something in her attitude. Just like rewinding then playback the scene, she has something much to much delicate and subtil, just like a geisha role in japanese or kabuki tradition, then defending her life against the warrior with this incredible motivation.

Anyway excelent wip, keep it up.:buttrock:
(soooo impatient to see the work of texturing/COLORS!)

10-26-2005, 12:05 PM

10-28-2005, 03:43 PM
This is coming along very well. My only crit would be that the pose of the man's striking hand doesn't look like he is going to strike her. His wrist is turned too far clockwise. It looks like he is just holding his weapon up. Maybe you could change that somehow to make the way he is holding his weapon look more threatening.

edit: I was thinking about it some more and I think that in order for you to envision what a swing of the man's knife would look like, maybe it would be good to actually pose and have someone take a picture of you doing it. That way you will see what it would look like and then you could make it look more natural.

10-28-2005, 05:40 PM
excellent work, nice progress:drool:

as gardogg said.I have to agree with him.
And that is probabaly only thing I noticed beside beautyfoul and dynamic posed characters.

yeah that's great !

11-14-2005, 12:53 PM
Wow Monsit, really a beautiful exterior, peacefull and well designed.

Greetings mate

11-14-2005, 01:37 PM
I love the concept. Your modeling on the characters is also great. My one crit would be with the roof structure. The way you have the column going up to the roof might be a little off from how a japanese roof works. I think it might look more realistic if the column went under one of the supports and then they stacked on top of each other. Here is the best image I could find of what I'm talking about.

But it's a nitpick thing, I'm just into architectural details so my eye is drawn to that stuff :) Either way this image is looking great.

11-14-2005, 02:06 PM
Hi !TOmy
I belive u can do.U the best.. Cheers up...Go go.:buttrock:(^o^)..(^*^)v

11-14-2005, 05:57 PM
stunning composition Monsit. keep up!

11-14-2005, 07:03 PM
Just one word: Beautiful!

Oh, and a few more words... :D I think someone mentioned a few posts back that the pose of the combatants is a bit stiff, and I tend to agree there. They don't look quite alive, and that could potentially ruin the whole thing... So I guess you'll need to exaggerate their poses quite a bit, give them a feeling of weight and motion.

Otherwise

11-14-2005, 08:08 PM
Beautiful scene, and a nice composition. I've never seen this thread before-shame on me...
Keep it up!
