Powodzenia! ładna stronka btw. I hope It's going to be as good as pieces from your portfolio

09-05-2005, 09:41 PM
Smooth-Criminal thanks alot

the_fgdf dzieki... I hope this will be much better than what I have in my portfolio :D

09-05-2005, 11:32 PM
powodzenia w bitwie :)

09-06-2005, 04:44 PM
Hi, I'm just stopping by to subscribe so I don't miss anything :)

09-06-2005, 07:56 PM
kannu dzieki

coCoKNIght thx dude to have an eye on my thret, hope you`ll like it :D

09-08-2005, 10:00 AM (

Ok let`s start with this idea, imagine that the San Andrea Fault collapsed and "the big one" come... the scene will show how the earthquake was big and how humans rebuided the area 30 years after. A monument skyscraper stands close to the fault.

Anyway it`s a start... any comments warmly welcomed.

09-08-2005, 10:25 AM (

This will be more readable, my drawing talents are.. inexistenet ;)

Now you can see the scale of the monument/building (700m hight) which shows that humans wants always to defiy the nature and "show her" they will always rebuild after her`s attacks.

I have to find a good angle and an interesting fault shape to make feel the scale and make this a really spectacular shot.

09-08-2005, 10:55 AM
The sight of the shifting plates sure would be spectacualar. Looks like your 3D comp is quite good as well. Keep it comign :)

09-08-2005, 03:41 PM
Thanks Yongkiat for the kind words.

I still thinking which camera angle I have to use, the aerial view looks more interesting but the view from down shows maybe better the scale... any suggestions?

09-08-2005, 04:22 PM
Hi Maciej! I think your concept looks really good so far - it's quite hard to get a feel of the size of the monument right now but I'm sure when you add some people it will be much more impressive.
Difficult choice of the camera angle... I think the left is more dramatic and the right is more in harmony... I suggest you try it out later when you got more in place. I like the lighting you got so far - this can become really stunning:thumbsup:

09-08-2005, 04:25 PM
The framing, shadow and light, contrast will really determine how this one turns out. I love the concept. I would consider putting the camera at a skewed angle.

09-08-2005, 04:38 PM
very interesting concept ! very proising landscape and situation !

09-08-2005, 04:42 PM
jddog thanks a lot :)

HammaJamma thx, I will make that scene at dusk/dawn mood with high contrasts, long shadows, light in windows etc... For the camera angle thanks for the suggestion, maybe I`ll try some helicopter skewd view :curious:

Gunilla thank you, glad to read you like this idea, the size of the monument will not maybe be soo huge ... I want that we can see some cars in the forground at readable size...

Also I`m thnking about few waterfalls which could look great on few sides...

09-08-2005, 07:43 PM (

I have experimented with many camera angles and I think this one is interesting... I will have much more to model (an entire city in the background) but this makes the challenge better :)

I will improve alot all the fault beacause it not looks always verry clear.

I`m thinking also about few planes passing on the forground... mabe with some smoke like for a national anniversary.. maybe the opening of this big building...

09-08-2005, 07:46 PM
Looking very promising... The camera angle is much better and far more interesting!

09-09-2005, 02:03 AM
looking really good man... but one thing do u think the earth near the clif can support a monument of that scale?... but who knows mayb ur thinking of somwthing way ahead in the future when everything is possible... keep goin... ur looking good

09-09-2005, 03:28 AM
aweome concept. this would make a very good image. i'll be watching

09-09-2005, 04:43 AM
Hi, nice lighting and camera angle, it looks like sunset.
I think it works well for the environment.

09-09-2005, 04:47 AM
i liek your idea its very true about humans always trying to be above 'earth' but we always realise at the end of the day the earth is way above us..nature is powerful so i'd really like to see how you use in your images natures strength and mans strength.. very cool dude.. looking forward to it

09-09-2005, 06:22 AM
Really interesting idea, I will keep up with this forum holla!

09-09-2005, 07:26 AM
That seems to be a good idea with a spectacular view...

09-09-2005, 07:33 AM
with th enew building the scale not is very expressive and dinamic !

09-09-2005, 07:51 AM
jddog errr thanks but I don`t get... it is expressive or not?

Lemog merci, I would to have one day a spectacular idea too :D this one is "just good" lol

beelow thx, feel free to visit anytime :bounce:

Neeno thank you, yes I`m thinking to put also few bridges to enhance the human presence

scorpion007 thx, yes it is... warm colors and long shadows works good here

joshcxa glad you like it, thx

overcontrast thx, I think the rock is just verry hard here so there is no problem about construction... fault forces was enough strong to crash this but you can now build on without risk... of course to the next earthquake :D

HammaJamma thank you, hope this angle adds enough dynamics to the image... if not I will definitly add some planes passing... I have to build a movment in this composition

09-09-2005, 07:57 AM
Lemog merci, I would to have one day a spectacular idea too :D this one is "just good" lol

Well mate... "spectacular" also depend with the realization... in this challenge, we can't see only originals ideas... Why ? our imagination only depend of our culture, skill... nothing to create... all to change :scream:

09-09-2005, 08:01 AM
Lemog true true, I`m just verry critic in all I`m creating... and newer says "it`s great".
But I will work hard to make this image as spectacular as possible :banghead:

09-09-2005, 08:18 AM (

Few refs... thats not exactly what I wanted but it`s a start. I think thers no big faults which "just emerged" in recent years... all are old and eroded.

09-09-2005, 08:52 AM (

Be inspired.. thats on a company logo... err... but which one? ;)

09-09-2005, 09:14 AM
Armageddon on the morning... sounds great!!

09-09-2005, 09:14 AM (

Here is what I wanted, interesting camera angles and a global show of few cities. Verry inspiring.

This is the last references set, with hope those refs could serve not only to me...

09-09-2005, 09:23 AM
Wow, these images are really giving a good idea of what it's going too look like. Good luck man...:buttrock:

09-09-2005, 09:27 AM
We can imagine the chaos... yerk :argh:

09-09-2005, 09:39 AM
the_fgdf yes but this will take place long long after the earthquake, so no dead bodies and big explosions this time :D

Jepster2005 I hope so... thank you

Lemog Chaos? not sure... cities are more like some biological cretures, they grow themselves without any "sense" but expansivley and everywhere... even on borders of faults :D

09-09-2005, 09:45 AM
a good concept can imagine the spectacular city scape ! cannot imagine the polycount hehe!

09-09-2005, 09:50 AM
My imagination is running wild with your idea. I can not wait to see humanity defying nature yet again.

09-09-2005, 09:54 AM
volvovella true, they will probably create something crazy soon, like a lift to the moon lol

yunisirees thx. dont think poly count, think layers... my overall polycount for my image for Grand Space Opera was around ten millon :argh: nobody can render that, it must be splitted in layers...

09-09-2005, 09:58 AM
yeah true . and thats a lot :D!

09-10-2005, 10:08 PM (

I see thats impossible to start some buildings sketches without good refs...
For anyone who wants to create buildings I suggest to look first at this link:
It`s all about buildings :)

09-10-2005, 10:48 PM
That is madness if , your are going to model all of that stuff! You have 80 days to do it though, you probably can model faster than I can good luck to ya!

09-10-2005, 10:52 PM
beelow well I will model that in about 40 days... going soon to holidays... plus some work.. yes that gives around 40 days for work on this :D ...this is not so complex and crazy than it looks...

09-10-2005, 11:00 PM
Keep up the good work.

A river would look fantastic, with its mood and reflection etc.

PS: If you want to model a whole city, I found a good way to achieve this in a quick way with 3dsmax.

On this site there is a Tut on this subject => (

09-10-2005, 11:06 PM
starsoul thank you for your kind words and for the tutorial link, it could help hovewer I will not have always flat terrains but I will certainly gain some time... especailly for the background city... with less details.

And the river with a waterfall should look good here...

09-11-2005, 12:08 AM
I'm an soon to be architect and I'm always interested in conceptual architecture, so I'll follow Your work through this.

Right now I'm interested in the building You choose for reference's the building in bottom right corner. I have never seen this and it looks amazing, can You give me perhaps the link to that building? Thanks.

09-11-2005, 07:09 AM
Ubik thanks for the comment, feel free to send any suggestions from your architect point of view. My architecture will be more conceptual than fonctional :D

And here is a link to the building you asked browse throught this page to find more buildings

09-11-2005, 02:39 PM
Thank You Nomad, the building reminds me of one of my faculty projects, thuogh mine was horizontal.
Anyway I can only admire this project from design standpoint, simply wonderful. This is light years ahead of what the rest of big tower architects are doing excluding mr. Santiago Calatrava.

... I simply can't stop looking at it :)

09-11-2005, 03:01 PM
You`re welcome... I`m a big fan of Calatrava`s works too :)

Now I have to design this big building :arteest:I should find a really strong concept :banghead:

09-13-2005, 08:58 AM (

Just another concept to set the scale, you can see now roads and small red cars on it. At A4 format they will be enough readable.

I painted a new fault on a flat plane. It looks much better and realistic.

Also I added floors to the big building to see the scale... and reworked the light colors...

As always any comments are welcome

09-13-2005, 09:06 AM
Oh, that camera angle works really well, coving both near and far effectively. You've got lots of work ahead with this plan though :scream:

Looking forward to see it evolve from here

09-13-2005, 09:12 AM
Thanks JamesMK, yes it looks that I already made the most importent: the image composition.
I`ll see how it works when the fault will be modeled with various high levels etc.

Fill all this "logically" with buildings will not be easy... I need a real architectural cityplan.

09-13-2005, 10:33 AM
your theme is close to yours:thumbsup: .your concept looks great good luck and i'll keep looking to what your doing

09-13-2005, 01:12 PM
One of the concept I thought. It's gonna be a big job. Good luck.

09-13-2005, 03:19 PM
authentic thanks, yes it will be a big work but I really need some good architecture in my portfolio :D then I`ll do my best to create some cool buildings.

azaghot yes close theme but different approach... feel free to pick up in my refs... I`ll post probably many buildings references... I just saw a book of designs made by Renzo Piano...

09-13-2005, 03:54 PM
Great update! I really like that camera angle and now you can really sense the scale of it... very good

09-13-2005, 03:59 PM
I would rough out the buildings... Basically stick a bunch of cubes to represent every last building... Get that done so you can focus on the details.

You have a ton of modeling to do... But I think this will be awesome when you are done!

09-13-2005, 05:28 PM
Thanks guys, I`m glad you see thats taking good shape...

HammaJamma yes I will make building blocks in low poly then see which building will be interesting to place and where... I will really make a movie set with no useless modeling "out of the camera" :D

09-13-2005, 08:52 PM
The composition of the picture is nice. The biggest building has a strong presence, but I think he would be more impressing if it was closer to the camera. Then it would give a sensation of flying above the city.
It's a great job, so keep it up!

09-14-2005, 05:44 AM
Thank you for your comment agou but I have to disagree about to putting the main building close to the camera beacause we will not see that it stands close to the fault which is importent for the story. It`s a monument builded to be bigger than the "forces of the nature".

09-14-2005, 06:15 PM
I`m dropping a line to say good luck to all of you. I`m taking now three weeks of longly awaited holidays :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Have fun and see you in October for more of my work for this challenge.

Bye for now.

end of transmission :D

09-15-2005, 01:21 AM
I'm architect, are you? The structure is very important. The building have a big basement, check or fix this.
I will check your thread. see.

09-15-2005, 03:07 AM
ah uh oh.. I didnt see this thread until I posted my fast concept, altough different its still very similar

09-15-2005, 03:46 PM
Very interesting conceptual architecture... the town-planning project didn't exite me at 100% at the back of your big tower, not sure about some orientation of some buildings... but still a very effective image !

09-17-2005, 09:56 AM
You've got nice shapes going on, keep it up!

10-06-2005, 11:26 AM
Back from long holidays I`m going back into this challenge soon. Stay tuned :bounce:

p4b10 thanks alot

jddog thx, well it`s just a prewiev, I will devlopp some more interesting buildings and enviornnment soon.

H N Phan well... my concept is one of the firsts on the biggining of the challenge... but we can have a different approach and style so this is not a problem....

romelalgo I`m not an architect but I always wanted to be one (the maths killed me at school, beurk) I will work on the building to make it as real as possible. And I`ll post some tech info of the internal structure and how it can be so big.

10-10-2005, 01:08 PM (

Back after a long break, I`m continuing on this concept.
I take a look on many architecture books and have a lot of ideas for this big building and for his environnment.
Stay tuned.

10-12-2005, 04:43 PM (

A fist try in the modeling of the fault, you can see on the right the displacement map image I used for.
The resolution of the grid is too small hovewer I have already 800k polygons :-/

I worked a little on the building in trying to get an interesting shape.

10-12-2005, 05:47 PM
Nice environment!
I dont wanna miss your thread.

10-12-2005, 07:43 PM (

Next update of the fault model.

I splited it in two parts (you can see the jonction) with a higher def closer. My polygon count reached 2.5 million oO but the result is ok for me. Now I will refine the details and could start building the city.

Any comments are welcome.

10-12-2005, 07:46 PM
Thank you adel3d for your kind words :)

10-12-2005, 08:06 PM
Hah! Only 2.5mil... Come on... bring the pain... Seriously tho Nomad, this is looking great so far, the fault really has a feel of being ripped apart... I can't wait to see how far you can push this image:thumbsup:

10-12-2005, 08:24 PM
Thanks for the support DaddyMack and yes "only" 2.5 mil :D
I just pray that my computer will not explode when I`ll add another 2 mil for the buildings

With hope to finish with a cool image... when I`ll add few briges, add buildings and roads this will look more alive.

10-12-2005, 08:41 PM
That seems very good... just 2.5 millions of polys... only for the fault... :argh: courage mate

10-12-2005, 09:03 PM
Very Cool....What's ur Workstation? is it Realtime while your Working with 2.5M? i guess Not...i miss realtime even with adding 0.5M
Keep it up:thumbsup:

10-12-2005, 09:08 PM
Merci Antoine,

Don`t worry, I should be able to split all this in few layers and could easilly render those millions of polygons separately :D

3rd user thx, I have a Pentium4 2.4 GHz and the 2.5 mil poly are really NOT displayed in realtime hehe

10-12-2005, 09:27 PM
i got 2.6Ghz but still,it's Mainly the Ram...,mine 512...hehe

10-13-2005, 06:02 AM
3rd user I have 1gb of ram and it`s far not enough for big 3d projects
but it learns optimisation and layer working :)

10-13-2005, 07:12 AM
So, are you shaping the landscape with displacement map only? It looks very good so far... but I can imagine the compolaints from your computer :)

Gladt to see you continue with this.

10-13-2005, 07:23 AM
Thank you Gunilla to stop here, for the fault modeling I first created it by displacement and after changed it in a solid object which I could edit later. (save transformed in LW)

10-13-2005, 08:21 AM
Hi. very interesting concept, great view. waiting for more. good luck man.

10-13-2005, 11:13 AM (

Let`s start the main building.

I based its construction on four towers (green) connected with some tech elements (red) which will also serve as hanging gardens.

You have here a main floor element which I have to clone...

10-13-2005, 11:19 AM (

... to have a full tower.

On the right you have a simple box cutted to the shape. It will be used for the glass structure.

Beacause all will be transparent I have to design elements inside each floor like office desks, computers, people etc.

I have to put also lights inside... but beacause I`m rendering in radiosity I think simple luminous boxes will be enough.

10-13-2005, 12:13 PM
Hello Nomad, very interesting job you're doing... I'll follow this closely too :)

10-13-2005, 12:32 PM (

With hope this preview is readable... I modeled furniture and walls with four different sets. When I will clone the floors I will try to vary as much as possible those elements.

In red you have the pillars and a structure where goes cables and lifts.

Now I have to make the glass and a test render to see if my elements are visible and how much.

10-13-2005, 12:41 PM
claudio_jordao & ali_rahimi_3d thanks alot for the support :)

10-13-2005, 01:21 PM (

It took me some time but I have what I wanted: a full and varied interior.
Polycount 150k and it`s only 1/3 of the building heh

10-13-2005, 03:57 PM (

It`s maybe not looking spectacular but that shows the amount of details inside the building and it structure.

Next I will add the glass cover.

10-13-2005, 04:59 PM
Hi Nomad,

That building looks promising. It really lends it self to a high resolution, high quality ray traced render. I donít think many other people would have gone to the trouble of including so much detail.:thumbsup:

Good Luck!

10-13-2005, 06:19 PM
Thanks Hoju for those kind words. I`m always creating detailed models which my computer have a big pain to render :D

10-14-2005, 08:55 AM
It looks great, but are all of those detils realy important. I guess that the glass you gonna put on it has a reflective material, so are you really going to see all of the furniture inside. Love your valley, looks very promising...

10-14-2005, 09:14 AM
Thanks to stopping here larsgehrt. Yes the details are importent beacause there will be light inside the building, the sun light will be low and the material will not be reflective at 100%.
The result will be maybe "delicate" but I hope enought interesting to catch the spectators eye and make him think "thers something in the building".

10-14-2005, 10:06 AM (

I added the lighting in the interior of the building. It`s simple luminous planes which I placed randomly so you can see that some floors are less or more luminous.

Now I will add the glass and see the result.

10-14-2005, 11:48 AM (

I`m enought happy with this result to move forward... I have to focus next on the base of the building.
Also I have to start the design of all the other environment elements & smaller buildings.

Feel free to fire your comments.

10-14-2005, 01:37 PM
that's really Good....Really Good.....i'm looking forward to see more from you
btw, yep, 1GB ram is not enough...but 512MB ram would do the Work:scream: :thumbsup:The less you got Ram,the less you'll live:)

10-15-2005, 09:50 AM
Thank you 3rd user :) and yes 1gb is far not enough... but I have always something other to pay (for example bills :banghead: ) than upgrading my computer

10-15-2005, 01:58 PM (

I had finally the time to make a high quality render of my building. So here it is :)

10-15-2005, 02:08 PM
nice buldings:thumbsup:

10-15-2005, 03:11 PM
Now thatís detail you canít simply get with a texture map alone. I look forward to seeing more renders of this.:)

10-15-2005, 05:03 PM
SNoWs thank you

Hoju yes I`m always modeling all, even the screws in the pillars :D

10-15-2005, 07:49 PM
that's real Great Maciej...i really like it and good luck with both this Challenge and Your Bill paying:thumbsup:

10-17-2005, 05:33 AM
Just thanks for this great lesson of building

10-17-2005, 09:26 AM
Merci Antoine. A lesson of modeling  well I did nothing extraordinary... thanks.

Thank you 3rd user, no trouble for the challenge... for the bills ehh thats another story :D

10-17-2005, 09:36 AM
That's pice of da*n fine work!! Details are amazing - good luck in next stage!

10-17-2005, 10:03 AM
Merci Antoine. A lesson of modeling  well I did nothing extraordinary... thanks.

I don't say that only for the modeling (built) but more for the design of this "building"... I like it

10-17-2005, 10:20 AM
I don't say that only for the modeling (built) but more for the design of this "building"... I like it

i second that! definitly very cool building in design and modeling!

10-17-2005, 07:30 PM
the_fgdf, Lemog & yunisirees thanks alot for the kind words, thats gives me power to work at night on this... not done too much recently... many business work to do... but stay tuned an update is coming :D

10-17-2005, 08:05 PM
I'm agree with the others, the building is great and you're wip is interesting... I like the idea to put some random plane to get light in the building.. I think i will maybe use this tips in a further project :p ;)

Keep us updated

10-17-2005, 08:25 PM
Bardzo Dobry!!

Very good modelig, i loved the main building night ilumination !

10-18-2005, 07:41 PM
Deankovitch dzięki :) thanks

Goul thank you, feel free to use my idea, it helps alot.

Also for all who need aerial refs I found those stunning photos here:{BB3DDD9E-2BBE-4806-A8E4-8D0DCA5B675F}&pname=Aerofilms ({BB3DDD9E-2BBE-4806-A8E4-8D0DCA5B675F}&pname=Aerofilms)

10-19-2005, 10:26 AM (

Finally I`m moving forward :) I have optimized my superhuge fault model to something less heavy (thank you polygon cruncher) and can work on the environment buildings. I will texture the fault later but in fact almost will be done in 2d post which will be faster and will look much better.

C&C welcome about the final camera angle.

10-19-2005, 11:21 AM
Hi! That's great! The very good idea! The main building is just stylish and it have the appearance keeping in memory. In my feelings, the fault must be more deep?! I look forward to seeing this progress! Good luck! :)

10-19-2005, 11:30 AM (

Designed some time ago this road should work well here.

10-19-2005, 11:31 AM
Continue like that mate... that works very good

10-19-2005, 11:42 AM
Thank you Lemong

You`re right Sergey, the fault should have more depth, I`ll post a render of the corrected one today. Thx for the kind words.

10-19-2005, 12:14 PM (

Just a short image to show how I`m placing the roads.
First a placement [1] Beacause there is levlel differences I had (like in real world) to dig into the surface [2] to have a clean path for the road [3].

10-19-2005, 02:33 PM (

As Sergey suggested I made the fault deeper... in fact I changed alot the bottom of the valley by adding irregular highs which looks much better now.

I also added few roads (highways) and a new base for the main building.

10-19-2005, 02:47 PM
I think it is going to be wonderful when you are complete.Good luck with the contest.

On start I created a module with few elements. I`m keeping a geometrical shape of the module to easily copy and paste it in other parts of the terrain (with few modifications to not have exactly the same buildings look).

10-19-2005, 08:32 PM (

Another render to test how fits my new building module. Any C&C are welcome.

10-19-2005, 08:33 PM
Thanks alot tuck to stopping here with your kind comments :)

10-21-2005, 02:23 AM
cool! looking good, Ive seen a lot of posts regarding the size of the monument, just remember its not the size of the monument...its what you do with it! :D ah gotta love dad jokes....

10-21-2005, 02:59 PM
Wooooooooow.......Man,you are Doing it! the base of your skyscraper(which i hope is the right name)is sooooo Cool.
i wanted to say that your Roads are screwing you whole scene but then i though you are the one who made this scene before modeling the road,so i guess i should not worry at all:thumbsup: Good luck Man,with your Bills:D

10-21-2005, 03:18 PM
Yes, agree with previous comments - that's what I like :)

10-22-2005, 09:34 PM
Momentum thx - haha good one :D

3rd user thank you, I`m trying to keep the style... fourty days to acomplish all the image will not be too much :D and the roads... I will try to not put too much of them.

(o)ne thanks for the kind words

10-27-2005, 09:05 AM (

Let`s try to move forward today... I have created a simple building standing on a place. The image shows how I`m working in texturing this place. Beacause all is seen from far and from top there is no need to add any other details (exept lamps which I`ll add later)

10-27-2005, 09:22 AM (

For this building I used the same technique as for the big main building: I placed a first facade of glass and added inside a lighting surface. But this time I made a textured one to avoid to model the interior.

10-27-2005, 10:48 AM (

Here you have a brige which will be bended at 35 degrees to make the road turning to the left.

10-27-2005, 12:03 PM (

Just an overview of what I did. You can see the brige placed. I will make a test render of the whole scene a little later.

10-28-2005, 06:43 AM (

Just a render of all I did for now with a small zoom on the brige. All the other buildings and filling the terrain will come fast now.

For the fault I decided to make all the details by painting over the final render because I will not have the time to model each rock formations as I wanted :(

Stay tuned :)

11-09-2005, 11:05 AM (

I made some little progress and modeleed few buildings...

Also I rendered the fault alone and I will start to paint over as soon as I have my main buildings line finished. (to know where I have to paint and where the buildings will cover the ground).

Stay tuned, maybe I will finish this challenge on time... maybe...

11-09-2005, 12:34 PM
I don't want to hear "maybe"... but "assurely"... :scream:

Your environment rendering is always incredible... I like that...

Nothing to crit for your new building... good tip with your interior/lightened/map... very effective...

Keep it up Maciej... ŗ donf :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

11-09-2005, 01:18 PM (

A bigger building with some interior. You can notice the trees on some levels.

11-09-2005, 09:42 PM
Thank you Lemong for this warm support :buttrock:

I hope to not desapoint you and finish this challenge with a cool image.

Stay tuuuuuuuuned :arteest:

11-10-2005, 05:43 AM
Stay tuuuuuuuuned :arteest:
Of course mate... I never constructed buildings and then, that interests me much... and the spectacular stuff too

11-10-2005, 06:33 AM
great looking buildings and the landscape looks amazing. good job :D

11-10-2005, 03:25 PM (

Another brick in the wall.. of my challenge ;-)

Same technique, interior filled with some low poly furniture and a light from few luminous polygons.

11-10-2005, 03:59 PM
Agamemnwn thanks alot, glad you like all this.

Lemog, well my buildings are quiet simple now but I wil try to create few more delopped soon.

11-10-2005, 04:04 PM
Hi Nomad.. I have to agree, your scketch is really nice, I think this is going to be a good one... you buildings are looking neat so far... cheers.!

11-10-2005, 04:16 PM (

Justa a closer view to this building.

11-10-2005, 08:21 PM (

Finally that starts to look like a city haha. Any comments, critics and money donations are welcome... ok forget about the comments, just send money here: 0121421545 ;-)

11-25-2005, 09:08 AM (

Another set of four verry simple buildings.

11-25-2005, 09:20 AM (

Finally going forward... here are three first layers: one for the fault, one for forground left buildings and one for the middle left buildings.
Will come another four layers plus one for the huge building on the right.
Pff hope to finish in time...

11-25-2005, 10:15 AM (

And here is a view of the three layers splitted. On the right you have a 1/1 image part which shows how works my interiors when they are illumnated and filled with low poly furniture.

11-25-2005, 10:18 AM
good luck to you. i like the scenery well.

11-25-2005, 11:02 AM
Always great precision and sense of detail... it's really a giant scene, really spectacular... incredible work

11-25-2005, 11:25 AM (

A little more detailed building which will go on the front right side.

11-25-2005, 11:49 AM
niezle ci idzie ;) I think the brigde gets lost in the compostion, i didn't notice it until you showed the bridge model separately.

11-25-2005, 11:56 AM
jrdollesin thank you :)

Lemog thanks alot for your warm support

mr.loco dzieki, yes the bridge is lost because it`s of thin construction... but I will probably paint some lights (red ones for the planes) and put cars on it so we will notice it better.

11-25-2005, 01:20 PM (

A different version of the previous building. I will maybe make it taller too. Just to have different levels of the roofs. For 6500 polygons, thats not bad :]

11-26-2005, 08:05 PM (

Next building, as the previous one it can be viewed from four sides so it can be cloned in different places of the city without a too repetitive look.

11-26-2005, 08:16 PM (

For the buildings texture I used a verry simple method: this simple image with verry small color variations.
As a cubic mapping, of different sizes depending of the buildings, this works well as plates of beton used to build the facades.

11-29-2005, 09:42 AM (

I have finally done the most importent: I rendered the big building in hi-res. Now I have "just" to fill the background with buildings, roads and forests.
At final some painting to rework the rocks and... done :]

Any C&C are welcome.

11-29-2005, 10:11 AM
Very nice buildings you have, :) may be need some fog or haze?

11-29-2005, 10:18 AM
That seem very good for me... all these new building... and the giant one... perfect done... I'm waiting impatiently the "fill the rest" step... that will be much more spectacular... final is near now... go mate... :bounce:

11-29-2005, 10:26 AM
alvin_cgi thanks for your comment. Yes there will be a little haze in the distance... and I will certailny put some fog in the fault.

Lemog merci, I wanted to create a stadium and place it somewhere... I`ll see if I have the time for that.

11-29-2005, 10:35 AM
:applause: effectively... the stadium will be a great addition in this environment... courage gars

11-29-2005, 10:48 AM
Ok let`s build a stadium in few hours :buttrock:

11-29-2005, 11:01 AM (

... it`s a crazy idea but let`s do it!

First I get a plan from a website, mapped it on a polygon and started to create the grass field. A grass field have 120 yards (109m)

11-29-2005, 11:07 AM (

Here you have a seat and a part of the beton strucure of the stadium which I will duplicate along curves which creates the stadium tribunes.

11-29-2005, 11:48 AM (

Next step of the stadium construction.
I have cloned the seats and rail extruded the beton structure.
I`m not going to make here something real beacause I have not enough time and architectural knowledge. In the corners I will put the stadium pillars. It will be smaller than the one you see on the plan.

C&C from architects welcomed :]

11-29-2005, 12:29 PM (

And finally the roof.

I have to add some supporting structures on it to make this more interesting and I think it`s done :]

11-29-2005, 02:12 PM (

I think it`s not bad for few hours of work. Whats you`r opinion?

Of course that can be improved with many details but it`s a background object which will not take too much space on the image.

11-29-2005, 03:23 PM (

Now something different. I have no time to play with volumetrics so I will use a simple trick to create the fog: I created a plane which I bent to fit along the fault. I will map this plane with cloudlike transparent texture. This should work well as fog. If needed I will make few different layers of this "volume fog plane".

11-29-2005, 08:13 PM (

I think the fog looks ok. I`m not going to add more layers.

Let`s add the stadium now :-)

11-30-2005, 10:06 AM (

A render just to show the stadium in position... I`m not happy with the stadium orientation, I will make around 40degrees turn left to show more of the backside of it. Also this will be less distracting from the main building.

Stay tuned.

11-30-2005, 04:26 PM (

Finally this looks like a final... but thers still some things to do...

What I have done here is:
_ I added a better render of the stadium with an other angle of view and more buildings behind.
_ I added a matte painting of rocky hills where no buildings could be build
_ I added some post effects like flares and color corrections.
_ I added a haze in distance

Any comments warmly welcomed!

11-30-2005, 04:47 PM
Wow - this has truly become fantastic! Really spectacular sight - good luck for the finishing steps

11-30-2005, 05:53 PM

12-01-2005, 09:46 AM (

I have started to paint some vegetation on the left side... let me know how it looks.

12-01-2005, 02:39 PM (

I finally done the green parts :-)
Just few details now and... the end!

Opinions most wanted!!

12-02-2005, 07:27 AM
alvin_cgi thank you for your comment.

I hoped that more people will send some crits and comments... I`m feeling lonely  have no C&C about my image which I will post as final image today.

12-02-2005, 09:24 AM (

We will always rebuild!

Even after a giant earthquake which killed millions and destroyed the city, humas rebuilded their town.
On the center of the destroyed city they builded an impressive skyscraper as a monument to show to mother nature that they will always rebuild!

the image shows a city rebuilded on the borders of a fault made by a recent earthquake. On the right stands a huge building builded as a monument on the memeory of the earthquake and to defy nature.

technical info:
Image size: 2832 x 3964 pixels (23,98cm x 33,56cm at 300dpi)
Photoshop full layered file size: 250MB
Polygon count: no idea... maybe around 5millons with only the fault around 700.000 polygons.
Render passes: around 10 with a fault alone, many building blocks, bridge, cars and two for the main big building.
The image tooks me around 17 days of full time work (from concept to final image) of course this was extended to three monthes of the contest period by working a hour or two a day.

Thank you to everybody who gived me a support and interesting critics & comments.
Good luck for all challengers!

12-02-2005, 09:31 AM

Michael Chang - ilusiondigital - Gunilla thanks a lot for your warm words and congratulations:bounce:

kreuz thank you, my computer have 2GB of RAM and I`m working on Lightwave. All the secret is to split the renders in multiple layers (front buildings, center buildings, background buildings etc.)

Greetings buddy! Just came to wish you a good luck but when I saw the picture is all this stuff in your scene modelled? No photo or mattepainting? If so I'm amazed! It is a titanic work you done!

Best of luck with your final image, I love it. The buildings look great (both the architectual design and the modeling), and they blend seamlessly into the landscape. Nice effects on the water as well. Alexi.

12-08-2005, 08:37 PM
Hi very nice concept realized skillfully with a lot of detail  Good luck.

Nomad man, awesome image!
Those steep mountains, and what perspectives!
Looks like an image coming directly out of a movie.
I'd like to see this as a full wall poster, just to indulge all day into every little detail and get totally immersed into that scene....
