FANTASTIC jdd!! hard to crit- it's all good- what about some tiny glass splinters coming across above the left hand side of the street- I think it would make the composition and movement flow across the image nicely. top work!

mmm yep like I answered at Gunilla ... thanks :wip:
for the reflection on the other side. If I did it I risk to cancelled the effect and focus to the main cation... like now you focus immediately in the explosion and the other side of the image give you the sensation of vertigo... well this was my reason.

First of all - it looks great! Very hard to come up with any reasonable crits to be honest.

About the contrast/brightness... maaaaaaaaybe it's a tad bit too dark, but it's a close call... this is unfortunately within the realm of personal taste, so it will be hard to get any objective input on the matter. You'll have to play this by heart I think.

To all:

It has turned out on many occasions that a lot of people have rather weirdly calibrated monitors. So here's a little helper image below. It was originally posted by Jeremy Birn a long time ago, and used to make sure that display gamma, brightness and contrast are correctly set for final on-screen colour correction proofing and so forth.

Your display is good when you can make out four full rows of letters - the first two white rows have the letters U to Z going from left to right, and the last two black rows have the letters A to F from left to right. When you see all 24 letters, your know that you see everything going on in terms of subtle stuff in the extremely dark and bright areas respectively.

EDIT: Sorry about this image-based invasion, Julien :D

EDIT: Sorry about this image-based invasion, Julien :D
You didn't have to sorry james... I already jump to my eMac and a Windows PC and noticed the image is really dark, but not on my 'work' monitor due to a CMYK print calibration... viwing with a standart srgb or web calibration the image is really dark...

thanks ;)

Looking great JD. So I guess all those yellow cars are taxis? I am a little bit disturbed by the red, yellow and blue cars, is there some reason you decided on primary colours? In any case the image is looking superb. All the detail is great. What a surprise those cabbies will have when a car falls out of the sky!

Lemog
11 November 2005, 08:13 PM
I'm not a great specialist in FX... but that seem very good for me... I watch the picture on 4 different monitors, and contrast appear okay for me... nothing to add... :thumbsup:

Lemog
11 November 2005, 08:22 PM
I'm just ask myself about a detail... as I said previously, I'm far to be a specialist about FX... but with that kind of explosion, there's no smoke or kind of dust...

Another thought... the broken pieces of glasses... as the grey one visibles at left are like that because their orientation,s no explosion reflection then, and we're okay... but these pieces have anyway thickness... and this thickness can have reflection, brightnesses or luminous glares... not ?

Well... I return to work... good evening... and don't forget the most important... -> :beer: hahaah

Tu as fait un super boulot sur ton image... je téléphone tout de suite à James Cameron pour son prochain film... :scream:

:argh: woargh... you point me in somethig very right... I like the taxi but you got reason about primari colour.., I will desaturate the cars and made it more 'neutral/gray' one.

:: Lolo
yep call James, tell him that I good guy and I work hard ! :scream:

Your comments are really pertinent... I know that some 'specularity, reflection and glow' are killed by contrast or I masked at all because the result is like a Christmas tree and I found more interesting have a powerful light of explosion and debris darker for the contrats... but I think I have to work a little bit on this area too ...

Looks like you're almost there with it, looks very good to me. On the bigger version it seemed to me some pieces of broken glass looked to a bit similar to one another, you might want to break some of them in finer pieces. It reminds me of a scene in Matrix where the helicopter explodes in a building, the number of pieces of glass in the scene was incredible. It could add a little more realism, just a thought man:) , keep it up!

Nice motion blur effect, maybe mix it with the original rendering in the post comp.

Remember handbrake next time.
And the fact that you can see batman head, torso and arms just below the car front is a trick itself!

When I saw your 2 pics... my first thought was exactly the same than "3d-empire"... composite the both in toshop to keep the best of each... and remember... all parts of your action scene doesn't have the same speed... and of course... the blur must me different between categories of parts... playing with that can be the great addition and give you the good feeling of the reality... sinon... c'est simplement superbe et décoiffant... bravo Juju :thumbsup:

:: 3d-empire
3d empire night bring out the best of our-self ? :scream: Ok next time the handbrake, promise and well... A mix of both will be done today... Thanks for your input ! :thumbsup:

|| Don’t try this at Office ||

A day Julien was sick and tired about his situation in office. Impolite chef, stressed situation and not a very interesting job position was a daily business…

For a long time this situation continue like this… but a beautiful day something in the mind of Julien comes out… a very intriguing idea… a very… crazy idea… Why not try to do something funny in the office just to shock his colleagues and just calm down the behaviour of his boss… the idea was simple… take the car of his boss, going up with an helicopter on the roof, drive down, reach the boss office and… destroy everything… wow, what a great, absurdly insane things to do…
After a long period of planning how to make concrete this idea, minute and detailed plan Julien was ready…
Everything going perfect, helicopters, driving along stairs and corridors… explosion, fun and action… did you imagine the head of the collegues and the boss… haha…
uh? ah, what’s up? … uh ohhh gosh, Julien wake up at 6.3 morning ready to go to work again… the same old story every day… but a wonderful dream…. a wonderful dream, just a dream… This was his best dream but this is a very good idea !

More than the strange point of view and the quality of the effects(wich are greats), it's the colors choice i like the most..So nice...I don't know why, but i love this cool night ambience disturbed by the aggressive red/orange of the explosion..

Hi Julien,

AM not that kind who used to polish up things, but your image is one of the bests or it is the best for me. I also checked the other stuffs of others, but your final fits extremely with the Spectacular topic of this challenege. It has beautiful perspective and excellent color balance. Not confused with crowded scene and unimportant things. Clean and powerful. :bowdown: I really hope you win!
