View Full Version : WIP "Lost" - first time attempt

This is the first time I have tried something like this (the whole digital painting malarky) and i'm really enjoying the challenge. Just looking for a bit of advice on how to proceed. I'm having problems with the close grass, as ive never drawn anything like that before, and I'm seriously dreading the clouds!

This isnt an original composition, its from one of the promo sites for "Lost" tv series. I thought it was a nice image to start with, and move on to characters once i have gotten a bit better at the landscapes and backgrounds. Top is progress so far, bottom right is detail of the turbine, and bottom left is a mini-original image.

So far spent 4 hours, photoshop and a mouse :) none of it is anywhere near completion, but im quite happy with how the turbine is looking so far - just needs more detail and more definition to the side of it i think.

Any thoughts, crit, advice is extremely welcome :)

thanks very much for your help.

i notice a lot of tutorials use the kinda generic grass brush thats in photoshop. Is using "prefabs" like this frowned upon in the industry? Or is it a case of whatever works best?

I know some artists will painstakingly draw every blade of grass that they can, which is admirable, although slightly confusing!
