View Full Version : Concept Helicopter (DragonFly S-32)

08-21-2005, 10:20 AM
I was doing a few sketches this morning and came up with this design for a futuristic helicopter. I kinda liked the concept so decided to have a shot at painting it in photoshop. Im goin for a futuristic semi realistic style, and plan to have it in a snow environment, but that will come later on. Anwyay heres what ive got so far.

The "DragonFly S-32" - At the moment it looks pretty fake, but it think its largly due to lack of texture and wear and tear which is yet to come.

Concept Sketch

Theres still a fair bit of work to be done, but i really want to get this one finished. Id love to hear any C & C you have, and ill try get some updates as soon as i can,

Hey Guys,
Monster_General: Not quite sure what your trying to say but i think i get what you mean. The one on paper was just a quick sketch which was made first. Oncve i had the basic feel i scanned it in and then worked on in photoshop.

Anyway ive been able to do a bit more work on the heli, but i need a few more ideas to add realism etc. Take a look for yourself and any crits or comments would be apprectiated.

Hey all,

Another update, and probably the last as i really dont know where to go with this etc. May add the rotor and blades but not to sure. I might continue if i think of some more ideas for a background or envrionment, or if i get some crits and ideas from you guys. Anyway take a look.

Still undecided if i should keep the snow, leave it with a few icicles, or just scrap the whole snow idea???

It looks a little flat. You might want to add more variation in the metal. brighter highlights and darker shadows. I know that this variation will depend on how shiny the metal is. I just always prefer images that have more tonal variation.

hey bigfox, your right about the lack of contrast. I started adding some more but accidently filled the whole helicopter body white, and actually really liked it. Anwya heres what its loooking like in white.

What do you think?
