View Full Version : Visual Effects Shots - "Beach" and "Snowrise"

Hi All,

Just finished up work on a few VFX shots I've been working on.
The first is "Bleach" - a live action short film my roommate and I created.
The second is "Snowrise" - a VFX and compositing exercise I worked on in my spare time.

Both were shot on a Panasonic DX100A Mini-DV camera and composited using Shake.
Digital snow for Snowrise was generated in 3ds max.
These were my first attempts at VFX and compositing ever.

Just want to say that your Snowrise piece was really cool. I like the idea of snow flakes going up rather than down. Sorry, I'm an animator so I'm not really to sure what to look for in a VFX shot but nothing really bothered me visually so I guess that's good. Not bad for your first attempts in VFX.

Have you posted it on vfxtalk for critiques?

Not bad for your first composite.

I Just wanted to point out something in the bleach shot though. When your shooting your different plates for the final composite, make sure you stop the clock on the rear wall. Unplug it, take the battery out of it, etc.... It totally kills the effect of things appearing and disappearing when the clock on the rear wall is showing a different time for each film plate you shot. Watch your final composite again and you will see it switch time forward and backwards throughout the sequence. It might be a small detail, but when you begin working on films, every detail counts. Directors, Effects Supervisors etc. will spot these flaws every time.
It's all about continuity....
