View Full Version : Baking weirdness ?

I'm having troubles with baking radiosity to image.
I've made a try to a simple object cube + ground radiosity rendered/baked cube image map 512 pix.
The rendering was 5-10 Mn on dual PIII 1000(rendered 1 Thread)
Now I'm doing the same on a 4688 triangles object (image res 1024), the process is running for more than one hour now and is still not finished. (Rendering should be finished, but not the baking)
Is it that long with you, or is it just me ??

It's OK... It's because u chose 1024 pixel image, also high poly count .
I made ones bake for some room (just needed to convert room from LW to Max with textures and radiosity) it was around 2000-3000 poly and the bake took around 10 hours !

Yop, I did another test same abject but image 50 pix, took 18min with a PIV 1600

I usually make bake for some high resolution and leave the computer to work all night...

When baking things like simple "cublike" object. Walls, floor and so.. Donīt use "bake".. I doesnīt work like it should..
Try use a high quality arealight shadow and bake it.. It will not look the same way as when you do a regular render..
I donīt know why?
Use your camera and render the walls, floor from every diffrent angle.. Now you have the same quality in shadows like you regulat render.. Even fake reflection if you want to use that for some reason..
And now you have working multithreading too..
