another basic Q :
when i use clusters,i first select one cluster apply a shader to it
preview and everything look good ,
now i select another cluster apply a shader to it
preview and..the first shader seem to disconnect from the object
what im doing wrong ?

I guess you are doing something wrong..
How do you select your clusters?
How do you aplly the shader?
I've tried this now, this is how I did it:
I got a polygon sphere, apllied a purple phong to it,
slelected a few faces, hit the cluster button,
slected other faces, hit the cluster again.
now I have two polygon clusters for that model.
in the explorer I opened the spheres cluster folder,
selected cluster # 1 apllied a green phong,
then I selected cluster # 2, apllied a yellow phong material..
now I got a ugly purple,green and yellow sphere..
you dont have to hit the cluster button, to create this cluster
in this case.. You can select a few faces, and while still in
this mode (when the object's wireframe is yellow) aplly a material
and XSI will automatically create the cluster and plly it the new material...

wut i did is this:becuse i have a complex object that all
made from a box ,i didnt first apply a shader to the whole object
i just select few polys and hit ctrl+L and the select another few
and again ctrl+L and so on ,
next thing i did is select a cluster apply it a shader
and drag and drop a preset from the netview or from a material
folder from the browser ,and when i did the same thing to the
other cluster ,then the first one vanished
(when iselect the cluster from the rendertree dropdown manu
all nodes and settings still there only when i preview i can see the
only the last cluster)
i noticed that i drop something from my original post that
i used presets)
