View Full Version : Communications Lines for whomever wants them

Here's a model of the Earth with communications lines and satellites for anyone who wants it:
Communications Lines (http://www.trinitymediainc.com/Downloads/Comm.zip)
And a pic:
This model wasn't hard to build, but it was a tedious, royal pain in the a**. It took the better part of a weekend and would have taken more if it weren't for Cman's increadible Align to Rail (http://www.m2estudios.com/move_align.htm) plugin.
All of the lines are 3D objects and the image maps are 5k resolution, so you should be able to get pretty close and still get a good render.
P.S. Oh, FYI, the Comm.zip file is about 12MB due to the large image maps, so be prepared for a long download if you're on a slower modem.

So that's what you used it for.

Thanx for the great source files....I really appreciate it and I'm sure the rest of the gang does as well!

Thanks, guys. :) This model is deceptively simple, but getting those lines to start and end at specific points around the globe was not easy. What was even more difficult was getting them to stay put while the whole thing morphed from a flat map into the globe. If anyone else is interested in a tutorial, let me know. I'd be happy to do one if enough people are interested. :)
