View Full Version : Lightmaps using Mental Ray in Maya 6.5

Hi there,

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the best from Lightbaking using Mental Ray? Basically all I'm wanting to do is use a final gather dome to bake out a very basic Lightmap that I can use as a base for my texture.

I've tried Jeff Parrot's method with a little success. What I'm finding is that if I don't use any lights and just use a dome for lighting (to give that final gather effect) the results are terrible and totally unuseable.

Anyone got any advice?

I'm having problems with this as well. I had no problems with baking out occlusion in Maya 6.0. It seems like the normals that are facing opposite the perspective camera go dark  The quality is very poor on the rest of the image as well, but it seems okay in the render.

Could you please explain to me how you baked out occlusion?
Much appreciated!
