View Full Version : Material Problems

Can someone please let me know how I go about getting a "certain"
part of a material to be placed on some other object?

Here's the deal, as you can see in this image:
What I want, is to be able to get the area of the ground thats in the red/yellow rectangle
to show up on my rocks that are aslo part of the eco-system material that I am using,
as well as for the two boulders I have in the scene, seen at the top rectangle.
I've tried everything I can think, of, like going to the UnderLying Material and using
that and trying every other material I could find in the scene, and STILL can't get that
one particular part of the meterial to work like it looks like on that part of the ground,
onto my other objects, like my rocks?

I'm assuming that it must have something to do with "Scale" of the texture (material) as
it's being applied to something much smaller then the terrain (ground) itself, as opposed
to little items (compared to the mountain, that is) like my rocks, correct?
But I've tried shrinking the size of the material when I apply it to the little rocks,
and still can't seem to get that one area of that burnt mossy looking stuff, to
show up on my rocks and such, which is what I'm after, as thats exactly how
things look out here in my desert areas I go to, as the rocks and grounds
themselves get burnt just like how that looks there, exactly like that.

Anyway, thanx, and this is from my very first renderings I've made, using DEM files
of the Corrizo area of our desert, only I don't have any cacti yet to put in the scene,
or any of the other plants yet either, like Smoke Trees and Ocotillos and other plants.
In real life, there would be a zillion of the Jumping Cacti all over the place.

Anyway, my first test renders and I'm looking forward to getting better :)
The best part though, is this is from a real area of the desert I've been to!
Which is too cool seeing it in my own 3D world!
Eventually, I want to get the whole desert where I've camped out at.
And BTW, this is pretty much what this area of the desert really looks like.
A lot of shrubs and cacti and zillions of piles of rocks everywhere LOL
The first image, is a better representation, BTW :)
Still, I need a lot more rocks. :)

Also, once I start to get better at this stuff, then I look forward to adding in dirt roads
and trails and like that as well as camp areas and old time places,
like the old railroad structures that are still barely out there,
along with the Corrizo Tressell, which is truely awesome! :)

Just use render area to render the part of the material that you need and use the resulting picture to map on the rocks.

Hmmm,,, I guess that sounds about as reasonable as anything else :)

I'll give that a try.
And did you at least sort of like my first Vue render?

I know this sounds lame, but believe it or not, I put a
lot of time into gtting that to look as good as it is right now :)

anyway, thanx and I'll keep learning, as this is all fun for :)

I can see that these are test renders, but I think if you could get it to look more like the top pic of the two below it would look a lot more natural the lighting looks a lot better and some more work on the textures, but not a bad effort for a first render.
