View Full Version : USB ports problem

07-21-2005, 10:51 AM

I've build myself a new computer using an Asus A8N SLI Deluxe motherboard recently. Installed WindowsXP and sp2.

Board has 3 USB 2.0 header. But somehow, all USB ports works as only USB 1.1! Do you know what the problem can be, sp2?

Run Windows Update if you haven't recently. I believe there is a patch out that fixes that USB problem.

Here you go: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/learnmore/jones_02august05.mspx

The link above says you can get the USB 2.0 driver from Windows Update. Another article says to just update to SP2.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I've found this patch too. But as I said on my first post, I'm allready have service pack 2. BIOS looks OK and chipset drivers are intalled. The motherboard dosen't come with USB drivers though, there is just a note says use sp1 or sp2.

Hmm, the patch I'm thinking of came after the fact, because of some goof up.

Most motherboard drivers, and what not, tell you to NOT install the USB drivers until after you install service pack 2 for windows XP. This avoids the USB problem all together.

Generally, on a new setup, I will install all service packs first, and then the drivers. Often this avoids any sort of problems that seem to occur.

Have you tried to reinstall your usb drivers? It may fix the issue. Remember to uninstall the current drivers first.

OK I feel dumb now. Uninstalling-reinstalling did the trick. Thanks.
