Ok, enough gawping at all the great work coming out of this forum, time to actually take part. I'll try and keep the updates coming aswell as trying to balance the overtime I'm doing in work :(

Good luck guys, should be an interesting FXWar

I'll be teaming up with Knickknack. I'm looking forward to this, it's time to polish those rusty skills I think :D
We'll bring you updates when we get em!

Ok, sorry for the lack of posts; myself and Flux have been doing some serious overtime in work at the moment, and will be doing so for the forseeable future, so we'll have to see how this all goes. We've got it worked out what we plan to do, and went out last sunday at 7 in the morning to shoot some footage. Luckily, living in Liverpool, we have some really cool buildings.

We've started the animatic, which we've done in Max and After Effects because it allows us to quickly visualise new ideas and shots without having to try and draw it with our (fairly poor) drawing skills :D

Anyway, heres the location that we shot: (

We'll get the storyboard on here in the next couple of days, and probably some WIP stuff; we're looking at particle systems and shaders ATM, and it's all very

Heres a quick mockup, done in work this morning. This is the type of grading and look we are going for our footage.

Just to clarify, we have shot video footage for the shots that we will be compositing, so the photographs are just for reference. Thanks :D (

The color correction looks great.

What software did you use?

Just Photoshop. It's a quick concept so we can get an idea of where we want to take it with the video footage.

Hello again,

Thanks for the comments guys.

Ok, so we've now got an animatic finished. You can view it here: (

This is quite a rough animatic but the basic shots go like this

1. Establishing shot of City Street
2. Cuts to low down shot of building spire with birds flying southerly. Focus shifts from building to swirling dark sky in background
3. Zoomed in shot of top of street. Water comes crashing in from right of shot and hits the (town hall) building
4. Cuts to swirling clouds in sky beginning to part, creating ultra cold air temp (ala TDAT)
5. Cuts to low down shot of building spire as the camera pans down the building to show the frost spreading down from high as the cold air freezes everything
6. Final wide shot of street as water rushes towards camera. The buildings freeze over just before the wave itself is turned to ice.

The music is just filler at the moment and may not be the final piece. That's what we've got planned, but it's going to be a load of work and we're not sure how we're going to be doing some things. It's quite scary and exciting :scream:

We'll keep you all posted! Good luck peeps :D

This looks very promising, I really like the concept and will defenately be keeping my eye on this thread :)

But are you going to incorporate the 3d buildings into the video footage or have you already shot them?

08 August 2005, 09:25 AM
Hi DogSter,

Thanks. Yeah, we've shot photos of the buildings so we can construct them in 3D and do some matching. Shot 2 will be completely CG, the other shots will be a mix of live action and 3D.

Looks like a lot of work but comming along nicely! Can't wait to see more.

Sorry guys but we're going to have to bow out rather ungracefully. We are completely snowed under (:D) in work at the moment, 7 day weeks and we cant find the time or energy to make this work.

Really sorry to waste peoples time, maybe after the workload here has died down, I really want to do an FX wars.

Cheers guys.

That's to bad because you guys had some skill.

Maybe just put it on freeze for now :bounce:
