Looks great so far. I really like your paint technique on the face. The lines and form are looking good. How many polys so far?

Going to keep up with this thread to see more. =)

thanks twitchy

well the model you see in the bottom wireframe with the armour, and a couple of little things like a weapon and bag that arent show, make it exactly 4000tri's which is the budget.

i'll post a front and back wire later today, with all the equiptment.

Ok ended up at the pub tonight so didn't get quite as much as i'd like done, heres the update.

Crits welcome of course, the fur is just getting roughed in, so bits may change as i fine bits that don't work as well as i liked. but mainly this is the style im going for. Hope you like.

its a shame that all that detail on the back is being covered by that unifrom other than that i think you should have jut a slight dark feather of black overlay from the black part to the fur jsut to blend it a bit.

can you post a render..with a more gray background..its to dark..we can't see all the detail..becaus your texture is dark to^^ but good job..keep working

Franklyn - well the comp is about the armour as much as the base character. The point is the character should look good unarmoured and armoured, like an MMO RPG character.

The comp is actually a recruiting comp by Ironlore who exclusively do MMORPG's

So the back is nicely detailed cause it will be seen as well.

Supernekosan - Yeah i tried a few renders with Various greys and then decided on black cause it showed the fur texture up better.

Heres a few pics with a green background so the greys arent obscured by the background.

OK couple of notes about the model, before the pics

the fur is mostly blocked in to an ok standard, I would like to come back to bits of it.

gotta add areas of brown like on a real doberman.

gotta touch up the lower leg and feet and complete the hand tomorrow, then i gotta unwrap and texture the rest of the model, probably in a bit of a rush. ah well i like deadlines.

going to totally change the boxer short type thing textures once i decide on the material and patern of the Hood.

heres the recent update.

still needs some more work on the fur texture but that will come after the comp finishes, for the most part.

crits please

the only crit i can think of at the minute is that he looks too hairy.
dobermans (from what i remember) have short, wirelike hair that is really shiny.
you can't really see the fur on a doberman. just the sleekness of the coat.
not sure how you would do that in a texture tho.

just my 2 pence

I think it turned out pretty good!

My only crit is that dobies have alittle more tan/brown fur on the points of the legs etc.
And in your concept his legs were a little thicker more muscle bound than in the actual model. Looking at him from the rear shot his upper theighs seem a little thin. But these are small easy things to fix if you wanted.;)

Love your nice use of UV map space.

Rob yeah i know the fur is a little off, call it artistic licence, my texture woulf be pretty bland without the fur.

Twitch - thanks the UV maping is somehting ive been practicing, alot.

Im gonna rig him sometime this week, and then you'll see why ive made the legs quite thin, well if i can rig it properly that is :)

Im gonna return to the armour and rework it ASAP as it was rushed and i know i can do alot better.

nice lookin character... crazy concept.
one thing i noticed is that you could have saved a lot of texture space by reusing some of the parts on the things on his ankles/wrists by just laying the UVs on top of each other. They look the same all the way around...just my opinion.
the cloth on his hoodie looks excellent.
oh, and would you mind telling what kind of brush/technique you used to get his fur to look so good?

lookin good...

very cool my only hangup is he's very thin, =) I know dobermans are lean and not big but a bit more mass'd help imho. I love your texturing technique of doing a rough texture then painting over it.
