Ok in order to clear the air, I have taken the liberty of posting a series of threads

Should the suggestions only be for real GI or can it be for simulated GI as well?
Anyway for real GI, the first that jump to my mind is: please, separate the radiance effect of the occlusion effect; so that we can make different renderpass of each one; or to bake them independently in textures.
Also integrate and improve with texture funcionality, the Skidbladnir's SG_AmbOcc in LW (is the best ambient occlusion shader out there!); or at least, open up Shading_Noise_Reduction, so that other plugins developers can take out profit of this excellent option...

Well basically look at V-Ray ;-)

- different methods of GI
- different method for primary and secondary bounces
- exclude objects from GI
- individual settings for every light
- undersampling (less than one sample per pixel)
- saving of the calculated solution to a file
- it would be nice to only calculate the solution and saving it to a file w/o rendering the whole image

Currently in LW, there IS option to exclude an object from GI in 2 different meanings.

1. Exclude the object from Radiosity shading (Object Properties/Lights/Exclude Radiosity)

2. Exclude the object from Radiosity Calculation (Unseen by Rays)

The latter needs to change definitely SOON. Its silly not to have Unseen by Radiosty.
Its silly to have Rays mean Reflection/Refraction/Radiosity together.

I agree with the above. I don't really use LW radiosity because of it's speed though, I head straight to fprime when I need radiosity. If they could optimize it's speed, that would be wonderful.

How about:

- REAL luminous objects, that don't require ridiculous boosting of the %
- I still wouldn't mind seeing forms of photonmapping/photon-spray added to the current set of tools
- as suggested before, take good things from Vray/Lightscape :)

Not sure if it falls under Global Illumination:

Better implementation of Caustics .... need something thats less of a hit & miss, or needs mad high boosting of the incoming light

Separate passes would be ideal, if only for testing shots alone it'd be great...
(incl. passes for caustics and what not)

To improve GI -
Support Vray intergrated and put all other resources into imporving Modeller to take on modo.

V-Ray integration would be very cool.
But I would want modeller to move into another direction. I really want stuff like instancing and construction history. I guess this is off-topic now ;-)
