View Full Version : Faking Sub-Surface Scattering

basically, i was looking through my house (which has tons of asian pottery) and was noticing that much of the vases were made out of very thin clay. And lots of light was bending around the edges.

so this got me trying to fake SSS in blender.

its not as sucessful as i would have originally liked, but i think the textre works pretty well with the very random object that i generated.

just thought i'd share and see if anyone had any comments.

I don't have a clue if your SSS fake looks "correct" and real to experienced CG people but to me it looks pretty good. Even if it is not proper SSS the material itself looks nice. May I ask you how you achieved that effect? Did you use Ramps or something?

Have you tried sss shader form yafray 0.0.8? Becouse Your effect dosn't look like any other sss material I've seen. but I think it's cool at all ;)
