View Full Version : Displacement map for credits?

Hey i'm pretty new to compositing in combustion and I have a question concerning the way I would acheive an effect. My question is probably applicable to most of the compositing programs so thats why I chose to post it here.
Basically I want to have a video background, then use a displacement map of some text to make it look like the text is made out of glass. I can colorize it and change the opacity later to make it more visible if necessary.

So can I just create my displacement map in photoshop as a very tall image with the text going down it, then apply a displace operator and choose the image as a target. Then I would animate the image with my credits on it so it goes up the screen.

Does that sound right to you guys or am I just wasting my time? Or is there an easier way?(though it seems pretty easy to me already)

The reason for photoshop is I want to do some tricky bevel effects and whatnot.
