I am currently collecting background material for my next uni project, and I wondered if You guys could name me some of the most distinctive artists who dealed with the industrial age/industrial revolution in their oeuvre ?

Joseph Wright of Derby strikes me as the most obvious and important example.

Although his work is less concerned with those themes than Joseph Wright of Derby, William Turner also worked at the time of the early industrial revolution and some of his work is relevant.

Even John Constable has the occasional glimpse of it in his rural idylls:

look into the art movement called 'Social Realism'

its artist dealt with industrialization.. alot of it with reference to mining
