View Full Version : Caustic Glass Solution

07 July 2005, 12:26 PM a quick post to show off a quick (reletivly) solution to decent caustic glass in Lightwave. The whole thing took about an hour to render at 3000 x 2000 on a 3.4ghx laptop.
Problem: to get decent caustics in LW tyakes a whole bunch of time, is very slow and needs everything turned up in the render options which can make LW slow to a crawl.
Solution: dont render the glass! Make the glass object "unseen by camera", stick a camera above the object and turn off all but the caustic settings of the lights. Do a couple of test renders with low settings and then ramp them up.
Tip: Using the spinning light technique will soften the caustics just right.
Then use the rendered image as a groundplane image and render in FPrime.
All the best

Hmm, very cool...Love the technique.

Gotta try this...

Thats a good technique to get the radiosity speed of FPrime with caustics. I used the same to render this.
