Some of you might remember this one from an old Game Art Challengeg (GAC #11)
Here's the old thread : http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=194234

Will try to finish it now. I've started to UV-map the lowpoly and generating normalmaps.

Here's the current highpoly:

and here's my latest progress:

All feedback is appreciated

I can believe it, someone's actually modelling a Che Guevara. It would be cool to put "a el Che Guevara" in Battlefield Cuba or something like that =P. Great work amigo.

Off-topic retoric question: Why normal mapped models still look like they were made out of glossy clay?

I didn't finished that GAC either... It makes me want to go back, and finish my cyber-mage too...

Looks ace, very good work so far.

Off-topic retoric question: Why normal mapped models still look like they were made out of glossy clay?

because the normal map is nothing but a information how light reflects on your lowpoly surface, its no geometry. therefore you need a lot of specular to make the normalmap kick in.
I think the character will loose the clayness when Ivars begins to work on the specmap :-)

Hehe, You have a lot of patience, to finish this gac model. I also not finish it and in future I don't see time for that. But I'm keeping thumbs for ya.

Thank you guys!

AgustinLV: That would indeed be cool. As to your question, I think jOBe answered that one

eMPeck: Thanks. Wasn't many who finished that one, was it.....

jOBe: Spot on!

Por@szek: Hehe, let's just hope I make it this time :D

Here's a little update:

Hey, those cargo pockets on the side of his trousers are just what I was looking for my Boba Fett model, hehe, looking at other's meshes is actually very educational =P.

Great stuff I loved this one when it was being done a while back glad you decided to revive it.

Thanks guys. Glad you like it.

Here´s a minor update: (Added the props)

And in case anyone is interested, here's a couple of turnarounds.

He needs a lot of work on his body, you should look at some body builders and the curves on their muscles. :) like t otherwise...nice work.

07-14-2005, 08:18 PM
Ernesto "Che" Guevara was no body builder. He wasn't even a professional soldier. He was a doctor and a great idealist. He had military training and was a natural leader, but that's it. I think the model depicts el "Che" Guevara very well.

Not to mention he failed every mission he was on. Also he killed an artist and a number of other people.

07-15-2005, 10:17 AM

jmBoekestein: I don't want to make him look muscular. So I don't think bodybuilder refs. are what I need :)

Here's a new update. Almost finished with all the lowpolymeshes, still some work to do on them, and I need to optimize my uv-space some....
