Wildfire Games is looking for some assistance with the creation of art assets for their game development project. In particular, we are looking for texture artists and animators.
Wildfire Games (WFG) is in the process of developing a freeware game. The name of this project is 0 A.D. ("zero ey-dee"), a historically based Real Time Strategy game focusing on the years 500 B.C. to 500 A.D. The game will be released in two parts: the first exploring B.C. and the second A.D.
In short, it is a war/economy strategy game allowing you to recreate or rewrite the ancient history of western civilisations.
Some key features of 0 A.D. are:
• Historical accuracy
• 6 unique civilisations
• Comprehensive editor
• Several multiplayer modes
• Seasons and weather
• Provinces and territories
• Realistic maps/terrain
• Realistic naval warfare
This project offers a fertile development environment allowing for experience and growth in the game industry, as well as the chance to have your name attatched to one of most impressive virtual hobbyist game development projects on the internet. There is no financial compensation attached to working on this freeware title, you profit only in building your experiance, portfolio, resume, and friendships.
You must be able to provide examples of work you are capable of doing, a link to an online portfolio or an email to sent to firstname.lastname@example.org would be great.
Texture Artists: You will be focusing on creating textures for humanoid units. We have quite a large list to undertake, but using a 'paper doll' method (you share a lot of layer), it isn't as intimidating as one might think. You need to know how to work with alpha channels. Concept Art and historical reference images are provided. Your choice of software isn't important (Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Pianter, Gimp, etc... are all fine). Usage of a 3d paint program such as "Deep Paint 3D" is helpful, but not needed. All models are made for you, and unwrapped. Examples of what you might be making are: tunics, chain male armor, breastplates, brass, fabric patterns, leather, etc...
Animators: You will be making animations for the ancient world. The animations are looping short clips such as: Slashing with a sword, jabbing with a spear, loading and firing an arrow, firing a sling, death, idle, cinimatic, etc. 3ds Max R5 or R6 with Charecter Studio is required. The job is basically to expand on the animations we have already made with more variety.

0 A.D. the game was born in the winter of 2001/2002, with development beginning in the summer of 2003. With 2 years of pre-production & 2 years development, we are well on our way to completion and committed to seeing the project through.
You will be asked to give WFG permission to use material that you create for this project. If you leave the project, WFG is able to retain the work completed so far, and continue to build upon it.
You will retain all rights to your own work, and are free to reuse in your own projects.
