View Full Version : 2-MINUTE FILM CLUB!THE BIGCHASE : Robot 36 and the Kid (ANIMATED)

Well, i decided i'd try and get one of my ideas for this challenge done seeing as i'm currently on holidays. The idea is pretty simple, it is just a build up of suspense and then the twist at the end of the film, though the storyboards should explain the nitty gritty of the plot ( if you can read my writing). I'm not quite sure how long its going to be and will probably only start allocating time to shots once i start animating.

My main problem is going to be animation, i'm reasonably competent with modelling, texturing and rendering, but i've never really animated before.

Anyway here is all of the work i've gone through in the past few days, character concepts, storyboard and the model for the robot (minus the coin slot because i forgot and textures).

welcome ! you have nice characters so far and i wish you the best of luck.

thanks archerx, good luck to you as well.

i rigged the robot and here is a little jump test i did to make sure the rig was ok. i havn't really done much animation or rigging so i'm pretty happy with the result. i still need to finish modelling and rigging the kid though

that was pretty cool but i think to sound was odd especially the end.

the sound was just a few soundbites of machinery i found on the net so i'm not sure why it sounded odd. Here is a run cycle test, i've still got work to do on the arms but i'm reasonably pleased.

nice run cycle - I can see a lot of character in it and it feels simultaneously mechanical (as a robot should).http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

thanks stepingon,

heres the base model for the kid, no eyelids or hair yet beacause i need to figure out the best way to animate them.

nice concept ! Good luck!:bounce:

It's a fun idea, good job :) I'd recommend putting a lower eyelid on the boy's eyes... like Pixar and Dreamworks always seem to have. It let's you portray many emotions by just that tiny lid. Although if you wanted to have a completely different look, go for it ;)

thanks, yeah you're right about the eyelids so i added some in, hopefully i can figure out how to animate them. i also fixed up some other parts of the face, most notably the mouth. just a screengrab this time

I really hope you can finish this by the time the voting thread is up on next Monday.

It looks very promising.

thanks, hopefully i'll manage to get a rough version done at least.

here is a little posed shot since i just finished rigging the kid. not very well though as it was a lot harder than the robot because he is organic and so i had a lot of problems (especially around the waist). Hopefully i should have some running animations up soon.

I love the designs!

I have finally gottena run cycle for the little kid, its not great but it'll have to do if i want any hope of finishing.

I've fixed up a few little things and put them together in run cycle.

Save Target As and loop in quicktime
