I have read a tut here about setting light.
Lighting Studio Setup Tutorial by Simon Reeves (
but, I cannot get my final render same as the author one. Can some1 help me, what's wrong or what has been omitted from my setting?

Hi tecsun, sorry I didnt email back sooner, but I checked your max file and you didnt do the materials correctly,

there was output map's in the self illumination slot, but they were unchecked [in the maps rollout] so they weren't being used

and also you need to change the colours in the chequer material inside the output map's to change the colour of the output

and not the colour square by "self ilumination" as that is overriden by the map in the slot

haha, it's ok~ finally I got it!!! thank you very much!! so excited! I think this is the best of my rendered image so far.... I never render anything well before...
let you see my final render, I add a reflection to the teapot, hehe :), just play around... but seems the light is too bright... :(

errr.. I have another question. The plane that I use as lightbox, I found that one of its face can emit light but another face cannot? why was it like that? how can I know which face will emit the light? do I have to run a test render before I know which side can emit, isn't it so strange to do so? thank you very much! :D

and one more ques, y must use checker map? thx :D

you can use any map that can give a colour, gradient map etc not just checker
