View Full Version : CgTalk Daily Sketch 388 REDESIGN THIS: "AIRWOLF"(Classics of SCIFI)

06 June 2005, 05:12 AM
This week we will go into the movie biz.
Imagine you have been contracted to work on REMAKES of a classic SCIFI TV show or movie.

top-secret division of the CIA known as 'The Firm' has built a hi-tech, weapons-laden new helicopter called 'Airwolf', but after the chopper's test flight, the craft's twisted creator, Dr. Moffet, turns the lethal firepower onto the flight tower, before taking off in the chopper with his two co-pilots to Libya. Archangel, the head of the division who built Airwolf, is badly wounded in the assault but not out of the game, and calls upon ace combat pilot Stringfellow Hawke to take the task of bringing back Airwolf from Libya, where Moffet is using it to destroy for his own sadistic pleasure. Hawke nowadays is a recluse, living only with his dog Tet in a cabin in the mountains, since his brother St. John's disappearance in the Vietnam War. Archangel leaves one of his agents, Gabrielle, to brief Hawke, and their fiery relationship soon brings them together. Hawke eventually agrees to accept the mission, calling on his only close friend and mentor, Dominic Santini to aid him, but will only complete the mission on his terms – he'll retrieve Airwolf from Moffet's evil clutches, but only in exchange for Archangel using his connections to find definate information about the fate of St. John...

06 June 2005, 12:15 PM
Remake Airwolf?
Me can't touch this, these guys were my alltime hero's.
So, just made my vision of an airwolf :argh:

06 June 2005, 12:20 PM
hehehehehe :D

06 June 2005, 02:29 PM
A typically straightforward and literal interpretation superbly executed MichaelMotion. I'm skipping this one because either I'd be attempting something similar, or I'll just end up with a weak rendition of that classic attack copter :p

06 June 2005, 02:39 PM
Oh, this should be fun. :)

We should do StreetHawk next. :p

Photoshop, one hour.

 Good job as usual MichaelMotion! I wonder how many of us had that thought... You beat us to it but did it justice. Love the eyes and tongue...
Not sure if I'll get a chance to do anything for this today, but will try.

06 June 2005, 08:51 PM
Thanx guys!
GrantMan: Yeah, I know.. so I had to make it quick!
Waiting for yours tho!

Very cool piece GrantMan! Everything looks great.

06 June 2005, 02:17 AM
Photoshop, 1 hr.

Okay, I couldn't help but doing a quick self portrait as myself in Airwolf. The main character...Stringfellow Hawke....Megan Stringfellow.........get it? :D

I was tempted to use my husband instead. He has his pilot's licence, and when he was younger at Aviation Challenge (Space Camp for pilots) he was given the call sign "Hawke." But hey, its my picture, so there. =p

06 June 2005, 02:48 AM
Thanks guys! I'm not a huge fan of the text though. I was in a hurry so I couldn't do a custom version...

Clever csgirl! And I like your text a whole lot more than mine.

Thany: Thanks for the comment. By the way, I checked out your website earlier. Top notch work!

06 June 2005, 01:09 PM
Michael Motion: Hehe, funny.
Art2: Nice design!

Never liked the stringfellow hawk guy, and his bonanza lookalike chump. So ill probably pass.

06 June 2005, 01:31 PM
So cool Art2 , always liked that sharp, smooth style of yours

06 June 2005, 01:45 PM
Hey thanks fellas!
I wanted to make a double rotor kind of chopper and I wanted to add some concepts for the arsenal, but I had to run.
Supervlieg, to be honest I didn't like Airwolf either :)

06 June 2005, 07:29 PM
MichaelMotion:  Great image :-)

I have never seen 'Airwolf' series, so I just painted some random chopper design, experimenting with 'pen tool' in Photoshop. 1h30min, then I got tired :).

06 June 2005, 08:25 PM
Herod, nice design! Very artistic and unique.

Art2: Very cool! I'd like to see a finished version if you ever get around to it.

06 June 2005, 08:49 PM

Painter - 1 hour

My. God. Is it too early to vote for sketch of the week? Just killer, what's not to like-- design, rendering... wow.

I'm not a fan of vehicle design, so much props to all you guy/gal's work.

06 June 2005, 06:25 AM
Very cool Andrewley! Good capturing of speed and movement.

06 June 2005, 08:43 PM
A little late with this one. Photoshop maybe 5 to 6 hours on and off. I have a harder time doing vehicles.

06 June 2005, 08:44 PM
Nice one thany! The hours you put in really show through.

06 June 2005, 08:54 PM
Nice one thany! The hours you put in really show through.

Thanks Supervlieg. I spent all my time doing the front end. The tail is kinda unfinished.

07 July 2005, 12:29 AM
Alright, maybe just maybe I'm going insane, or so, but I'm not sure if that only seems weired to me, but this piece'o'crappo actually took ONLY 35Minutes....why is it always when I feel something is REALLY tedious, that it goes like kind of TWICE as fast as anything else....reminds me to driving with your car in the rain. When I do that I always pay extra attention, but on the flip side involuntary speed up more and more. Strange...
..and on top of that I'm just about over a cold, that's still hanging in my bones...

anyway, believe it or not: (35min)openCanvas1.1
edit: just goofed around in photoshop a little more... (5min) PhotoshopCS

07 July 2005, 04:53 PM
:applause: Andrewley, Thany, and Taron333: Freaking Awesome!... All of you.

07 July 2005, 06:12 PM
*sigh* Brings back memories...of all the times I've been infront of the tv...I never knew it could be so useful to most....and then my mum said it wastes your brains out...anyway

Taron333, Thany, Andrewley, Herod: Whoa...excellent one! Obviously you guys like such devices...

MichaelMotion: Beyond hilarious to the fourth power!:applause:

CSGirl: So that's what you look right...right?:)

GrantMan: I love this one a whole lot...!

07 July 2005, 08:15 PM
Taron333, That is awesome work. I only wish I could create a fraction of that in such time.

However, I can't help but look at your sketch and get a .. Falic sense o_0

07 July 2005, 08:36 PM
However, I can't help but look at your sketch and get a .. Falic sense o_0

I'd say that says more about you than about me (LOL), but it was truely time that someone noticed or mentioned it...hihi...I purposely tried to even make it look like a dog's/wolf's "tail"...hehehe...great observation! :D
It's supposed to symbolize more explicitely what otherwise the big guns and rockets were standing for in my opinion. So why bother hinting it less obvious!? :p

Thanx a lot!
