View Full Version : UT2004 map - Sanctuary of the Clans

I'm working on my first attempt to make a map for UT2004. Since I'm making by myself a small Legacy of Kain themed mod I choose the Sanctuary of the Clans from SR1. The lighting is very basic, only for preview purposes. It's far from being finished, but It's suitable to show off.

This is looking great for a first map. I like the basic layout of the room, and the style of the architecture is pretty solid. A few things that might help for a start:
- The water on the floor isn't translating to still images very well. Seems like it might almost be marble. Looks very tiled from above. Needs more specular and probably some more depth to make it clear.
- The materials on the columns is very different to the arches and floors, and the colour bands on the pillars is quite bright. It seems like the parts come from different places, some new, some old. An ancient ruin like this would have a less colour saturation, and a little more common grime and sameness.
- Lights pretty bright in there, but there's no obvious light sources. Will you be putting in some lamps and fixtures or something?
- Are there other rooms and parts of this map under development?
Keep it coming man. I just got started with the UT2k4 editor too. Exciting stuff...

Thanks for the advice. You were completely right about the pillar's colors. It looked like a birthday cake. Fixed that.
So far, I only did the texture on the static meshes, the rest are only temporary, and they came with the game. The floor texture is not water, is like tiles with sand on top.
I don't like the texture for that ring of arcs supporting the second floor either. I'm gonna redo that one.
About the lights, there're gonna be pyres, torches and even some windows. The lighting is transitory too, I haven't got to that chapter in depth still.
I'm gonna model and texture all the static meshes needed for that room before I continue with tweaks on the lighting and particle emitters.

This would be a nice map to make into a temple with an outdoor set as well. This map is extremely small so far, keep going.
