Does anyone know how to apply 2 maskes on the same layer (ie on one layer)?

This certainly can be a problem due to the restrictions of pasting into a layer mask. However, layer masks are essentially additional channels inside the image. You can access these channels in the channels pallete. this allows you for more flexibility when you want to paste additional pixel information into a layer mask channel. You can also try using the selection powers, by control clicking on a layer, or layer mask, the layer alpha is loaded as a selection, a combination of several selections (shift to add, alt to minus) can lead you to even more complex selections... That may get the result you want. Experiment a bit.

Whoops. Forgot about this thread. Chances are you already figured it out.

1) ctrl + click to load the first mask
2) ctrl + shift + alt + click to load the second mask
3) do what you please with your newly created interected selection

That's PS 6 on PC. Shouldn't be too different for Mac and/or PS 7.

And what Ian said. It's a good idea getting to know how to do "ChOps".
