So, you want us to go outside... This will be a challange indeed. :)

06-12-2005, 07:10 AM

Sorry I didn't go outside as it is just after midnight - but I had to act upon the mood for cloud painting.
PS/WACOM - 60-80 minutes edit another 30 minutes

06-12-2005, 09:14 AM
It's not cloudy everywhere.

06-12-2005, 10:17 AM
bah, just unbroken greyness everywhere,
not much use going out

did see a pigeon dropping in the window, though,
maybe I'll paint that instead

06-12-2005, 10:20 AM
I found a break in the cloud and I THOUGHT I saw this...
Feel free to laugh at it- I know I am!

06-12-2005, 11:49 AM
hah great topic
45 mins, PSP

06-12-2005, 01:18 PM
There is a really boring sky here today. Oh well, this took a little more than half hour on Painter:

06-12-2005, 01:25 PM
Here's mine:, 30min)

06-12-2005, 01:43 PM
about 2.5 hours, ps & painter, reference pic for the clouds

damned clouds... i can't believe how difficult it is to paint those fluffy things... or am i the only one, who had problems to paint it...??? it took me at least 3 attempts!!!
ok, have to calm down... i need a beer... :D

great entries so far!
cyanid, i like your castle in the clouds very much!:applause:

best wishes

06-12-2005, 02:16 PM
Augustus: I wish the sky was boring here...Starting to hate english weather a lot. Although it's good for painting clouds.
Every one good work!
Here's my first attempt on clouds, so be gentle..and do make some comments.

And question: is the image to bright or to pale? I can't see it, it's this damn laptop monitor...could use some feedback on that. thanks. (

06-12-2005, 02:39 PM

(5min fireworks) (

Photoshop 7, 15 minutes.

06-12-2005, 03:18 PM
Great colors Maidith! Very nice!

06-12-2005, 03:37 PM
Nice one Maidith! I'm surprised you're only 16! (and a CI user to am I)

06-12-2005, 04:02 PM
There's nothing but disgustingly blue skies and fluffy goodness in my part of the world right now. 5 minutes of painting plus 2 minutes of running back and forth between my window and my desk. XD Trying to sketch more, and keep everything loose. Coulds are my secret love of painting, so I can't spend any more time on this because then I'll tighten it up too much. PS 7.0

That blob in the upper left is so definately a fish.

06-12-2005, 04:31 PM
Maidith: Wow! That's lovely.

Photoshop, about an hour and a half, perhaps? It takes me a long time to do clouds and I could have kept working away at this for hours.

06-12-2005, 04:45 PM
Decided to do another one, inspired by some photos of the lake near my home. Tried to eye-match the colors, no mean feat let me tell you!

06-12-2005, 05:00 PM
The only clouds out right now are some extremely thin cirrus clouds--hardly visible. So I just doodled out my own

06-12-2005, 05:15 PM
so we had a little sunshine today anyway, so
I get to paint this :D

dat's my house in da bottom of the pic
and dat's me lookin at the wowzers sky

tribute to Derek Riggs and Iron Maiden obviously
(Riggs painted most of their album covers)

yea hey we had kinda similar ideas there ziggy

stunning sky, maidith , u rulez.

06-12-2005, 05:28 PM
Really wanted to do one with more fun color in it, so I went into my photo reference folder for inspiration. Blue skies are sooo boring. D:

10 minutes, PS 7.0

06-12-2005, 05:34 PM
maidith: you're talented! nice sky!

well, at this moment my computer is in a cave like room so ... no sky. Therefore I invented one.
:D I tried to follow the Stalhberg tutorial ( little success... anyway, it is supposed to be a woman.
30 minutes in photoshop + wacom.

06-12-2005, 05:40 PM
hi., squibbit, salamander coral, maidith and all good jobs.

06-12-2005, 05:54 PM
There must be a thunderstorm coming your way. Very cool clouds Squibbit!

06-12-2005, 06:48 PM
Thank you, everyone :)
You've got great clouds. *_*

paperclip - you have got a CI, too? Cool!^^ How much or less do you hear, and since when do you have it?
I'm almost deaf from my birth on, but with the CI (which I received in January 1999) I can hear very well in a quiet environment, and understand maybe the half of what's said on TV. =D

navate I love your clouds. <3 So beautiful!

06-12-2005, 06:51 PM
Actually we have very lame clouds here today, so I had to fluff them up.

06-12-2005, 07:03 PM
Actually we have very lame clouds here today.

lol , hey, what u think inspired my pic?
i got angry at the endless grey so i decided
to spice it up some :D

i think it carried a bit of a magic with it, cause
soon after i'd started it the clouds pulled aside a bit
and as i mentioned before we even got to see
the sun for a while

06-12-2005, 07:23 PM
What a great day for a cloudless sky....

06-12-2005, 07:32 PM
Clouds were no good here either today...
I used one of the loads os cloud photos I've taken as reference - one where they look like foamy waves near the beach. It didn't turn out very good, though...
I think I'll make another (love clouds! :p )

About an hour in PS (a lot of fooling around with colors...).

06-12-2005, 07:33 PM
lol , even without pics u get good laughs in here!

guess u gotta improvise too, Octothreat

06-12-2005, 07:35 PM
Saw this outside my window a few minutes after reading the topic and had to commit it to memory, cause the clouds are moving fast today.

Ditto, but I got mine 9 years ago. It's improved my speech so much, it's amazing. I'll PM you, so as not to hijack this thread.:scream:

06-12-2005, 09:05 PM
Today the sky is borelingly blue here, no cloud for the past 4 hours ***sigh***

06-12-2005, 09:06 PM
Hi Folks!
To everyone who is having trouble with clouds I recommend 2 tutorials from 2 of the greatest CG masters of our time:

Hope this helps!

06-12-2005, 11:07 PM
No, I didn't. But i'd like to.

06-12-2005, 11:12 PM
While chilling at the lake, I actually saw a really impressive cloud formation, that remind me of this fameous picture of the exploding Hindenburg Zeppelin.

06-12-2005, 11:20 PM
I want to say I can't believe the entries! I would love so much to comment on each one but I think it would take allot of space to do. I am going to go see what I can do to get something done for this one.

06-12-2005, 11:58 PM
Okay here's mine. The cloud coverage here is non-existant today. Storm coming through and the sky is all grey. Nothing distinguishing there. So I played with Painter and here are some clouds. I really use the idea of looking to the clouds to paint/draw an image not the actual clouds. Think of them as mother natures ink blots.
Again I can't state how wonderful all the entries are!

06-13-2005, 01:05 AM
i had a very nice chicken curry , thank you. great entrys , one question though is copying a foto considered sketching too? i always thought it was quickly drawing from the head ?
maybe we should make a daily fotocopy thread too :P
Whats ic stand for? i dont mind reading about that stuff always its ok to broaden your horizon.

06-13-2005, 01:25 AM

I think you can use any reference you want, photo, landscape, real model or what you see... eventually your drawings are the way you see the world around you or the way you xpress what you feel. The sketching concept itself is in the quickness...

06-13-2005, 07:56 AM
ok you're on holidayz then , i was wondering why u hadn't showed up
at work yet, hehe

that pic looks like them weird clouds that appear when a plane breaks

Beautiful entries here. I know am late but better late than never. Photoshop and painter 45 minutes. By the time I had a chance to draw, clouds had gone in, so I used the clouds in my head.
