hahah! yea i agree, other parts of the piece should be flowing as well...this looks a little boring, though, at the moment

i feel like there is a story to this piece but so far, the two characters don't show what it is
i know its most likely you'll add more "context" later as the piece progresses

We'll see :)

I've changed the beasts legs and made a 3d reference for the stairwell:

I think I'll need to put the front legs more to the sides, and I'll probably change the head as it should look the same direction as it's mistress.

This is a closeup of the face (at 100%)

Any tips on how to achieve a semi-photorealistic look? I really suck... :sad:
I want her to appear cold and scary, lifeless yet beautiful in some way...

bring the lips forward...(our)left cheek up a tad....pupil/iris thingy a bit larger. she looks really old...unless that was what you were going for.

edit: also put some more pinks into the skin.

no, this thread's not dead yet. after a long pause I've continued my work on this image.
on a sidenote: my online portfolio is now v5.0 and now you can also comment on my works there.

Compositionwise, I find this last version much better than the earlier versions, but why cut the beast's hands off ?

now for a slight crit. try paint in b&w for setting the values right, you ccan paste it back on the piece on luminosity layer mode and drop it into the background. its slightly overbrighted, and light takes much more effect if there's also some contrasts in the piece. besides, sculpting in b&w is very fun.
the beast could use a slight anatomy review itself, make sure what kinf of features it will have, more human or more 4 leged mamal features, then get yourself a few handy refs to study where you want it to go, so its logical and working. if you have set a specific lightsorce, its much easier to construct shadows. keep up the great work fabian :) let it rock

small update with some textures and levels- brightness- and contrast tweaking.
I think I'll have to rework quiet a few things, like her right arm for example... :-/
still lots'o work to do...

looks much better. also try looking at your pic greyscale, sometimes you think you pushed contrast a lot but you might not have. wouldn't his legs show a little under his robe?

thanks! i'll try looking at it in grayscale, thanks for the advice, good idea! It's a she and yes, one leg should be visible and will be, i've just not bothered yet to draw it :)

i'm sorry! >.< in that case i think the hair could use some work. i know you're working more on lighting right now but yeah, that's one of the problems. at the time the hair might work for a guy but it'll need to look softer for a girl.

here is a good example of what it could do.
