So basically you modify the NAME of the monster and base your painting off the new name?

So basically you modify the NAME of the monster and base your painting off the new name?

Paws! Jaws with a "P".

About 40 mins in painter 9. I restricted myself to just chalks, going to try a different media each day untill I find one I like.

One thing I couldnt find how to do is smear the chalk like I could with my thumb in real life. Anyone know what tool I would have used?

05 May 2005, 06:07 PM
There are all sorts of Blenders available, which can be modified in large part just like colour brushes. You'll likely find the Soft tip blenders work well for finger-like smudging.

05 May 2005, 06:34 PM
"Paws" , funny, Bohh

Funny stuff everyone! Very creative.

Nice detailing on the foliage Squibbit.

Nice detailing on the foliage Squibbit.

heh, that was the easy part, used all sorts of
photoshop default brushes, the maple leaf, the
three blade grass and various others, often with
such small brush size that they'd not be easily recognized,
but you don't need to look hard to see them there.
I don't use the many brushes often enough, was way fun!
Oh yea and the sharp look of the green came from
unsharp mask and sharpness brush for the foreground.
The longest time i spent on te fur, which never worked
and i am very ashamed of the outcome

05 May 2005, 07:45 PM
Awesome work everyone!

Supervlieg - would you mind speaking about your brish settings for your piece? Your broad, flat stokes have so much life to them!

White Rabbit
05 May 2005, 07:46 PM
Haven't posted here in ages... But to celebrate my last day of study, here's a quickie: modified from a gremlin...

This topic is incitation to silliness :p teeheehee just what I needed :p
Photoshop and wacom, 15 minutes

05 May 2005, 07:50 PM
Thanks for the compliment and replies. I'll have to try out the blender with different settings then.

I love the ninja frankenstien!

05 May 2005, 07:54 PM

Photoshop, 2 hrs.

Skeletaur - skeleton with the legs of a horse.
I was having a go at Linda's brush-making tutorial. If I was spending longer on this I'd do more work on the skeleton and cloth.

05 May 2005, 07:56 PM
Supervlieg - would you mind speaking about your brish settings for your piece? Your broad, flat stokes have so much life to them!

Thanks! I used a fairly standard oval brush, thats abit rough around the edges. And i set the opacity to pressure sensitive, and made the brush follow the direction of the stroke. Thats about it. Try it, youll like it ;)

Bohn: Thanks!

05 May 2005, 08:54 PM
Is there an equivalent of PS's Opacity setting in Painter IX? The Opacity setting in Painter is more like PS's "Flow" Setting.

05 May 2005, 09:12 PM
photoshop 10 minutes
3 guesses who this is... it was too easy - I'm sure it's been done. Anyway, at least I amused myself. Oh, what the heck - it's "Messie"

Any of you guys ever had one of those monster-mix books?
PS tablet - 10min

05 May 2005, 05:54 AM
haha, good work, TheTon&Octothreat

stepington, hey ,u got a sweet idea there, we could
make an ongoing thread of that , each one changing
one segment , one at a time. When one has changed
the pic, next one reserves the pic for changing, etc.
then after 2 weeks or something a "best of" could
be voted of all done segments to make the final monster.
We could even have several such threads :D

05 May 2005, 06:00 AM
Supervlieg- Thanks. I'll try it out ASAP.

How about voting on the best monster pieces and then someone compiling it into a flash version of those old books? That would be an awesome project! One week just have 3 days, one day for top, then middle, and finally bottom. (Or any order)

05 May 2005, 06:08 AM
Thanks Squibbit!
I like this monstermix idea...

05 May 2005, 06:12 AM
You could easily substitute my monster for a small child.
This took about an hour and a half as a pencil sketch. If I have time, I may come back and color it.

By the way, Frankenstein has never looked so good.

Gord's that a monster.... in that it's invisible ? evil!

05 May 2005, 11:56 AM's that a monster.... in that it's invisible ? evil!Well, if I've eaten something a tad dodgy (but not shrimp, never eat shellfish) and I'm all in desperate need of a receptacle then I'm gonna be thinking that Satan himself invented this invisible toilet.

Modified Monsters....Allow me to introduce you to "Kongzilla"!

This is actually a sketch I did for a previous post, but it fit this topic so well, I decided to reuse it. For those of you who have been around awhile, you might recognize the merger of Goro and Vitriolic. Haven't seen either of them around in a while, though.**

**[EDIT: GAK! Sorry, Goro! Just saw your "Indiana Jones" don't know how I missed some of your more recent posts. Guess I've been so pressed for time I overlooked you. Anyone seen Vitriolic lately?]

Element5 - love your Christine! 'Uncle Stevie' would approve, I'm sure!

05 May 2005, 10:39 PM
Haha, Robin that's pretty funny, I love his expression :D

05 May 2005, 10:44 PM
Thanks, Art2.

I just realized I must have lost whatever brain I used to possess. I was thinking as I posted it that I hadn't seen either of them in a while, Then I'm looking at sketch of the week stuff - and there is Goro! Then I look at the Storyteller thread and not only did Goro do a great entry, I complimented him on let's see...where did I leave that Ginko Biloba and is it too late to take it if my memory is already gone?!?

05 May 2005, 12:09 AM
