i think this is one of the onyl times i've posted in the finished work section.. feels kinda weird..

actualy, i don't feel its finished(typical artist i guess) but i absolutely have to move on.

took me 3 days, way too many polygons.. but what the hey. i like the result.. the tread is a little iffy.. but is good n nuff.. fer now

modeled primarily in LW, cept for the tongue and laces.. done in maya (but then touched up in LW.

(yes the knot is techniclay correct.. took my damn well nearly an hour:rolleyes:)

anyway, heres the image:
the wireframe:
and the original referance image:

tell me what u think:wavey:

looks really sweet...nice modelling indeed but it couldnt be finished cause you didnt texture it

10 October 2002, 10:46 AM
sweet boots, but do the extra work and texture them

You already know what I think. They turned out very nice. I'd say work on the the way the knot at the top hangs. It kind of defies gravity now. Textures? You don't need them. You're a modeler. Thats someone elses job. Just post the finished character when you get him! ;)

i think thats some awesome modelling, the details are perfect i really like it, i think if you just wanna be picky well the shoe lases should be a little bit thicker but thats all great job!

10 October 2002, 07:46 PM
is there a way you could post a wireframe not triangulated? maybe just a capture from the viewport? that would be cool

great modeling. very good attention to beveling everything.

The knot just needs to be dropping down a little bit more than it is.

It would be great if you could do some textures...

Hey, EPshort, your work is great.
How long time you took to finish it? I love to modeling also, and I like to make traditional Chinese painting style with Maya recently, here is my post, Give me your comments in this post, thank you.:)

I might say NICE WORK - what is the purpose - comercial or just for the fun of it?

Anyways - Is it possible to gat a 1600x1200 image to use as a desktop wallpaper?

Keep it up... :applause: very nice...:applause:

I really like it zach....the modeling is fantastic really..very VERY clean and nice....nice you son of a bitch j/k

only thing...maybe its too realistic...if 3d is an art from where is a creativity??? and remember Iam a smelly hippy..
smmmeeeellllllllllllyyyyy hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiipppppppppppppyyyyyyy

10 October 2002, 05:02 AM

i think that's a photograph in the beginning!

but i trust that's a 3D model when i saw the wire pic .

really cool! nice model & nice material!

wow.. i'm really quite flattered with all the comments.

thanx every one..

as a treat i go tsome ogl wire frames (LW will only render out w/ the triangles when the mesh is smoothed:

yes.. there won't be any textures any time soon.

the reason for this modelign(among others) is i need to get a job.. uh ... soon.. yes

so i'm beefin up my reel before i send it out.. in abouts a week er so.

so no textures.

hmm.. i hadn't noticed the "floating" bow, gonna have to go back and fix that

facial.. very nice work. i like the stylized look

not my style.. but i like it.

yes realistic is what i go for (well, technicaly hyperrealistic.. )

hippies, hippies everywhere!.. they want to save the world , but all they do is smoke pot andsmell bad!

-erik cartmen

hehe.. couldn't resist

now that flattering, thanx

1600x1200.. mm.. doubt it.. at least not w/ hdr rendering..
w/ all the geometry.. that'd take a while...

mm.. maybe,

per request:

actaully the only reason i rendered it is i finally broke down and bought a new cpu fan.. one was off balance and load as hell.
which didn't help since theres 2 cpu fans 3 case fans and the power supply fans. now way i was leaving it on all nite.. but now it purrs like a kitten.

my god, i didn't relise that was u latexfatigue:

btw, the creativity come in the design of the character.. so that it can be modeled

hint hint, nudge nudge, wink wink

i thank u for ur compliment

o, and apparently i lied. tomorrow i should hav ethe boot knife attached to th e..uh, boot

well, originaly i figured it would have to be attached to the leg, but i figured out how to get it on the boot.

soo... as usualy, it not final... o well

10 October 2002, 03:30 AM
ok.. this time its final for sure.. how do i know? i don't have anymore time, have to get a job..

btw, if anyone didn't see it, there's a 1600x1200 render on the first page.

anyway, i've added the boot knife, and straps, an dam pleased with the results.

plz tell me whut u think

10 October 2002, 03:47 AM
wo...mamma, really sweet model. i really dig the knife idea. but then who would wear em, except "the terminator" :p

really good job...

EDIT: he, 1st to cgtalk! yay

Still looking for a job eh? Expressions...yes sir...hehe...I really like the boot. Are you still building everything a poly at a time or have you changed your method? I got one of the print outs of your Space Marine up on my bedroom door...I am still in awe about that one. Any way...back to the boots...

I might would put a little bit more tread on the bottoms...Would also be nice to see it lit and not using GI...Have you tried rendering it with the Mental Ray yet? Have you got an idea for the rest of the model? Maybe model a Grandma and put her in those things:)

Anyway...great model and best of luck on getting that badly needed job...

10 October 2002, 09:25 PM
fresh balla.. i must say i'm rathe rflattered that my model is the subject for your first post.. thanx :)

u'know hats copyrighted art up on ur door there.. i'm afariad i'll need to charge u $500.. hehe j/k

i dunno.. i took the tread off another boot.. but mostly cause i was indesisive about whihc to use.

the reason i use gi, is cause it gets into the crevisise and gets the detail to show.. it also look good

remember, i'm not tryign to make a scene, just model, and show all detail, w/o hidin ganything.

in fact in the final turntabel render for my reel, its just a white dome:

thanx all
