Hello all, this is a model I did back in Feb for the PA challenge. I decided to ressurect it and try to fix some texturing and lighting issues. I've been pretty tied up but am now focusing 100% on my 3d again and am looking to get a full time job in the gaming or entertainment industry.

I think my 3d is getting closer to good but am looking for feedback to give it that final level of professionalism that will get me a gig. I'll gladly take crits on anything: modeling, texturing, lighting, composition, etc.

Thanks for all of your help, I've missed everyone so expect to see more of me from now on, especially in the next challenge! :scream:

P.S. I've got some other WIP stuff on my site (YemYam Central) that I'll be posting here as soon as I get them wrapped up ... other unfinished challenge entries ... my bad. :surprised

Here's a close up of the bot. It was done in Max 4.26. Everything is pretty much sub-d or modified primities. The only thing that was posted in pshop was a little faked dof and the logo addition.

One suggestion...
Dirty up your textures a little.. Very nice image but looks a little to "clean".

Bringin back the spida chick huh? Ive always liked it but I do think the seams on the metal could use some dirt in the creases. I also think the spida chicks skin needs to be tweaked. It doesnt have enough variance in it to suggest skin. It almost looks like it only has a color map on it. Did you ever try that trick I showed you at the school? try it out on her. As for the enviro... Give us another shot without the bots and without photoshop so we can see the lighting and textures better. Im gonna be searching for a job right along with ya:bounce:

Cool Models, the texturing for the most part is good also. I am particularly fond of the spidachic's helmet!
A couple suggestions though: On the first pic, the background is not making a whole lot of visual sense to me. I'm having trouble picking out the shapes. Perhaps this is becuase there is very little contrast between the background and the character. The scale is also somewhat confusing.
The pose of the spider-woman is a bit stiff. I don't think I've ever seen anyone comfortably hold that position. Try pulling her left hand (the one without the claw) back and down, bending more at the elbow, and doing something more with her fingers. A more dynamic pose would add a lot more to this image. Also she is not really looking at anything. What is the story that you are telling with this picture? What is going through her mind?
The pic on the bottom, although the character is not as interesting, really works a lot better. He's looking right at the viewer and the chainsaw clearly illustrates his character. The color scheme is also more consistent and therefore less confusing than the first. I hope that helps, if not then just ignore it ;).

Thanks very much for the feedback. I think the texturing is the cause of all my problems, because it was very weak in certain areas I adjusted the lighting to hide it versus fixing the texturing first and then lighting with a plan. I need to go back and re-do the bulk of it so it is custom to each one of the shapes with dirt, rust, wear, etc. I rushed it for the challenge so I really need to go back and take my time with it.

I also agree about the chic pose ... she is way too robotic and I want her to be scary and intimidating. I'm going to re-pose her so she appears much more agile (I also need to model the inside of the mouth still so I can give her a facial expression). The look I am going for is someone stumbled into her lab/lair and she drops down from her nest above to attack.

Thanks everyone. I took your comments into consideration and did two new compositions. I reposed her to be more natural and tried to create a mood. I also dof'd the background a lot more to make her the focus. I think they are an improvement over the last two and have better focus and presentation. Let me know what you think, comments, crits, questions always welcome!

Much better Yem Yam. I like this alot. But watch the intersecting strap on the right shoulder.:bounce: Any updates on the lab enviro?

ps. I think you should do a croped close up of her face from that profile veiw aswell.

Thanks a ton for the feedback. Here's a zoom shot on the side of her face. There's still a little bit of stretching that should be fixed ... she usually doesn't let people get this close to her. :surprised Let me know if you want to see anything else, wire, gray shaded, etc.

Also, a few twisted people wanted to see a topless version so I reluctantly obliged (like you would want to pick up on this sweet lady) :scream:

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Here's the grayshaded and wire. I didn't realize till I went back to do the wire shot that I had accidently collapsed my mesh smooth into a couple of objects ... like I said it was done for the challenge a while back (ie under time and PRESSURE) :surprised I just did the chic not the background to make it a bit more simple.

I just wanna say that your model is lookin good....Your last renderings shows a lot of improvement..The only thing that kinda throws me off if the lighting in some parts of the model...Like the leather lookin straps on her chest it almost seems as if there should be more of a shadow under it and in other places too (just a thought). But your model is pretty cool...Oh yeah...I went to the A.I. of Dallas too .....:buttrock:

Thanks for the feedback everyone. One of the reasons I was gone for a while because I was cranking stuff for the school. After being on Cgtalk in the challenges I thought it would be great to implement a forum for the school so we purchased vBulletin and with the help of "THE Eudy" I skinned and implemented it two quarters ago. It has been a tremendous help to the students and their learning but as the mods here can attest it takes a ton of work just to mod and run the system.

I can definitely polish her more but am going to take a little break to work on my other project, a Demon Biker dude (some of you may remember the Chopper bike from previous challenges). I may start a thread for it in the WIP section so keep a look out!

one thing im interested in is how you got the skin to have that glow like quality around the edges of her skin? Was that part of the DOF or some other effect that you did in post or some kind of glow on the object? the lighting and textring is very good btw :thumbsup:

Thanks for the feedback all! Crode, the skin got the look by the diffuse settings being fairly lite then combined with the intensity of the spot towards her body made it pretty bright. The only thing posted in pshop is the faked dof.

I rendered the background separately and blurred it fully. I then took in the character separate, duped the layer, blurred the back layer then erased portions of the top layer in a layer mask to bring out the faked dof.

Looking at it some more and based on the feedback I realize it still needs a ton of work, especially cleaning up the textures but she'll have to stay as is for a bit while I wrap up some other projects. Thanks again for everyone's comments!
