I am not really familiar with corel draw but I believe it is a vector based drawing program which is very unlike traditional art mediums. If you art background is varied then painter 9 may and a wacom tablet will put you into realm of digital art. They only difficult thing is getting used to drawing on a tablet while watching the monitor. If your art background is solid then you can take your knowledge and experience and apply them into the program with little transistion since the program was desinged with analog artist in mind. Once you get used to the whole concept it will be like traditional art with an undo button.

Yeah, thats disconcerting and is taking me a while to get used to. I'd recomend Alias SketchBook Pro. I love it!

A free alternative is Art Rage, not quite as powerfull or as convient but worth the download

And you need a tablet, a Wacom, big as you can afford.
