View Full Version : Want fur to "see" transparency

I'm working on a 3d scene with 2d images mapped to a poly plane with transparency. When I render the scene with fur, the fur sees the whole polyplane and not just the image that is on the plane.....
is there a way to make fur account for transparency?

i have faced this problem before the only way u can get to see fur from behind a transparency map is by using the mental ray renderer.Maya's native renderer renders fur in post so it cannot calculate for anything behind transparency.

If you do not want to use mental ray then u have composite the shot later. Once with the fur and without the object with transparency map and then vice versa and then coposite it together in a compositing program.

Mental Ray crashes all the time with fur...? The problem with rendering in passes is that the alpha channel sees the whole plane and not just the image attached to it.

Any advices?
