PS, Dexxa tablet, about.. an hour.

I kinda gave up when I started making the background. ;P

The only classes Joan likes are math and art. The rest of her classes bore her to death, and with them come the stresses of daily assignments and huge projects. But in her daydreams she is able to escape. Let loose on a giant blank canvas, she truly is Joan of Arc.

10 minutes to draw, 30 minutes in paint shop pro.

Hey Everybody - Haven't been around much lately - busy and sick - not a good combination. Ah well, I'm trying to get back in the groove.

Here's mine - Started with a ballpoint pen, then scanned and played around in Photoshop. About 45 minutes.

During her trial they forced her to change out of "men's" clothing into a dress. At that time they also cut off all of her already short hair.

04-19-2005, 07:09 AM
Powerful image FridayEve! I encourage you to make this sketch an actual piece. <3

04-19-2005, 07:58 AM
OMG. FridayEve. Just... wow.

And at the other end of the quality spectrum, lol.... my quick sketch. ~30min.

04-19-2005, 08:02 AM
Sketched in OpenCanvas, a bit of ArtRage, and some scaling and embossing effects in GIMP;
Total time ~2 hours;

Tried to make the pose ambiguous... is this Joan's divine calling, or a foreshadowing of her eventual demise?

Some excellent entries in here:
AndrewLey - excellent, I like the hair; The armour design is very intricate -- but I don't think that the helmet can technically close (only a minor quibble). The chain mail effect is well done. (I gave up working on the links in mine early on...)

Crazy3d - It looks like we took similar poses - very nice stylized image, keeping emotional impact while retaining an abstract line.

Hagarun - great "doodle", the hooded figures are disturbing; Joan defiant to the end.

Dark3D - good composition, the background figures lend a sense of urgency to the picture.

FridayEve - very compelling - probably the closest to the real Joan of Arc on the thread so far!

Robertt - colors are well chosen - anticipating tomorrow's entry 318?

04-19-2005, 08:10 AM
Powerful image FridayEve! I encourage you to make this sketch an actual piece. <3

I second that!

04-19-2005, 08:39 AM
Fridayeve - your work is always good, but this image is especially powerful. I absolutely agree that you should expand this sketch to a fully finished work!!!

IMHO - this work has the potential to be one of the best works ever published on cgtalk.

04-19-2005, 12:03 PM

Just under an hour in Photoshop using standard brushes and I think Enayla's brushes I downloaded at some point.

Wow. The quality that comes out of this group in such a limited time is amazing. I hope I can pick up some tricks from you guys along the way.
hagarun - it may be more of a sketch than a painting but your piece has great style. As the other's said Andrewley and FridayEve's pieces are excellent.

04-19-2005, 12:20 PM
wonderful image, FridayEve :bounce:
And everyone else too!^^
Photoshop 7, around an hour

04-19-2005, 10:33 PM

Photoshop, hour and a half. Also trying out Linda's brushes :)

The thing they never mention about that divine inspiration stuff is the ungodly headaches it causes.

andrewley and Fridayeve AWESOME

andrewley- I like this image a lot, I wish I could see just a little more of her face, The armor is really cool, great :)

Fridayeve,- the composition of this image is great, her face looking down at her cross while her hair is being brutally cut off, is a very calm image, yet still very agressive and powerful. great
