View Full Version : Character: Goddess Mother

10 October 2002, 09:01 AM
You may remember her as the Shroom Goddess...?
She's been totally remodeled, re-rigged, & re-textured.

Let me know what you think...

Incredible work!! The only thing I would spend more time on is, the floor, everything else spews royalty and such and then you look at the floor it looks like an after thought, give it some more life, depending on her environment you can maybe make it dirt, with maybe some pebbles and such, dunno, but as right now, it brings down the quality of an other wise marvelous piece :)

P.S. what's the light setup like?

Holly cow. It is amazing :applause: :applause: :applause:

10 October 2002, 10:59 AM
Very cool!!:buttrock:

I like the posture especially. she looks like she is thinking bout something deep. Or just plain shroom'n:surprised

But yeah, I agree, the floor needs to be redone and also the walls. I think, like, some organic looking tubes sprawling across the ground with a cool-colored tint to them would be cool. Maybe make the walls somekind of transparent-organic looking metal texure.

But DUDE.....................The model looks kick'n. It RAWWWWKS!! :buttrock:

Really nice, her right foot looks sort of mangled to me and I agree about the floor. Other than that it really is a beautiful picture!

10 October 2002, 12:20 PM
Great work man! She kinda looks like Erika Bahdu;)
I agree awith Lil aout the environment. It would add a lot to the scene. What prog did you use? Great work!!!

10 October 2002, 12:22 PM
Excellent work as always dickie!!

What was your lighting setup on this one? Did you use an isosphere with parented lights, or another method? I love it.

10 October 2002, 12:31 PM
Really nicelly done!

Love your texture work! But I have to agree with lildragon for the floor. Fix this and it's a finished piece.
Show us some more?

Keep it up!

10 October 2002, 01:00 PM
Very Psycadelic !!! :)

10 October 2002, 02:31 PM
wow realy nice
i like texturing and lightning

10 October 2002, 02:46 PM
5 stars indeed!!!

but i'd look a bit at the skinning under the shoulders

10 October 2002, 02:51 PM
WOW! You really nailed the otherworldly nature of the character.

10 October 2002, 04:27 PM
nice one! i really like the textures.. but i think it lacks some shadows (or are the ones present really blured out?), looking at the feet for example they really doesn't look connected to the ground..

10 October 2002, 05:23 PM
I really appreciate all the great feedback.

-As far as the floor goes, I was looking to
graft in a velvet feel.
Though she may look disturbed :), she's actually Mother Earth, Gaia, God....

I'll definately tackle the floor tonight.

For those of you interested here's the first chapter of the graphic novel surrounding her!!! (

:lightbulb lildragon, thanks for the plug and the advice,
Her throne room is situated at the end of a tunnel, the light mostly coming in through that entryway.

:lightbulb BgDM, I'm afraid I've abandoned Blender. She's now a child of Lightwave and Wings. :)

A closeup:

the texture on the ground doesn't have enough res. also it is stretchy.

The body texture looks too handpainted. Blend with some non handpainted skin texture always helped

Well, on one hand I am soory to hear that you have left Blender. Especially with the source being released this weekend. Ther eis only going to be great things ahead for it. But on the other hand, I can also see why you did it. I have been using LW a bit myself lately, (just got my Inside LW 7 book, yeah!!). I am very much liking it more than Blender myself.

Keep up the great work dickie and I look forward to seeing more of this project. Glad to see you didn't abandon this!!

you might want to also work on her abs, she seem skinny but has no definition

10 October 2002, 08:50 PM
send this one into teh LW Gallery for sure!

10 October 2002, 10:01 PM
You know I'm a fan :D

10 October 2002, 10:04 PM
Nice texture work. looks really good. florr does look a little blurry and plain. but overall looks great.

10 October 2002, 10:15 PM

Lets see a Wireframe Shade shot. :-)

10 October 2002, 10:19 PM
I love your work! The only thing that I see (other than the floor) that stands out to me, are the toes. They seem a little too square. I know, there are square toes out there, but they just seem a little too square. Nice job anyway!

10 October 2002, 11:00 PM
I like this. It has style.

But I think that it should have more in the ground and other places too.
For example the necklace lacks looks like post-production, but as I said I realy like the style of your pic.

i think that the texture on the chair needs more detail...

10 October 2002, 11:12 PM
i like the concept it really makes me look at it longer than normal pics and renderings......mutipule congrats on the pics on the main banner

10 October 2002, 11:44 PM
Her skin is really cool [ thin ]

How did you achieve that in LW

10 October 2002, 06:10 AM
I guess the overall visual needs some glow and hotspots.
maybe some atmospheric effect in the background to enhance the holy feel of goddess.
I would put some light fog thru the pillars.
it's a very nice visual and i like it. good job and I hope i can see some improvements in ur next post.

10 October 2002, 06:57 AM
actually, the handpainted quality of the skin texture is one of the things i find most appealing in this model. it is really quite lovely skin. i think the rest of the scene would benefit from the same sort of painted and layered treatments. photorealism is overrated !

10 October 2002, 08:12 AM
Great work....awsome... :buttrock:

I remember seeing the birth of these creations in forums

Why must all CG be photorealism? I think it is great, sure there lots of
stuff that could make this scene better, but as always, there will be
plenty of people who say so !

And I too has started learning LW, though I have also used Blender
for a while now, but it wasn't my first tool...but in between...

Navel_Lint, again, keep up your great artistic feeling, love the atmosphere in your scenes !! :bounce:

ps. BgDM, good to see you in here as well :p

Many things, for example:

Style: It has a very fresh touch. I have seen Dickie's other work too, and they all have that.

Character: Althought the character does not express much emotions, it has a very strong expression. In a way like Mona Lisa has. It makes me staring her, wondering who she is and what she does.

This if - ofcourse - only matter of my personal taste. You don't have to understand that. Even I don't, but main thing is that I accept it and it makes me happy every now and then.

First off, got to say I've been following this piece for a while and love it! Now, on to the critiques... hehe... okay, it's a great image, but the lighting is pretty week. I think you could definately push it much further to really capture a mood, even if it is going to have a very fill light feel to it, the shadows and hotspot areas could definately be excentuated further! I think other than her main texture all the others could use a bit more work. I think the one that stands out the most to me is the garmet she's wairing, even more so than the floor. Add some slight fall tones to it, with the correct lighting I think it won't be so pronounced and will really bring this image to life! great job so far, I know you've been working on her a while, don't stop now when you're so close to a really great piece!

Cool that you share your screenshots to us !!

10 October 2002, 01:20 PM
:lightbulb Kaiser_Sose, the skin was painted in photoshop,
then layered with a couple procedurals in LW.

here's my surface editor crap:
