I dont know why that DOF is all the hype now but it seems to be

I was playing around with Brazil and rendered out this. From this file I at least now understand what DOF is.

It is really cool that you can see exactly where the camera is focused and from there unfocus everything else

Before I get flamed why I am not posting this in the Max forum well the answer is I like this forum the best and my choice program is LW

On a side not, is there any LW to Max converters ... I want to render some scenes out in both and compare

i do like that particular visible dof feature in the camera object... i really think that all the 3d software houses should spend more time on their handles... anyhow what i was going to say was in your image the teapot in focus appears to the only one with single sided polys... the lights shining straight through it.. or is it one of those new bone china that really is as thin as paper ones?

I have friends that own each one [ besides LW, how do you like that } ... when I am a good boy they let me play with them

I really should just stick to LW, which I intend to do, but I posted this image since there was alot of talk here about DOF

It seems like with LW you need some plugins like lenscare but I thought it was just cool how Brazil does this interactively

LW also has built-in DOF, as well as Digital Confusion. You may want to try those out before you buy other plugins such as XDOF.

i agree on that single poly thing, look at the shadow on that teapot in the middle :)

and too much dof makes it look like a very tiny object(like a zoom-in)
perhaps one should link the dof to the zoom when animating...

If you have some sort of photography background DOF becomes easier to understand and apply to your scenes without making them look like miniature models. If used correctly DOF will add alot of realism to your renders just because the eye is already "trained" for DOF.

Here are some links about DOF that even thogh are not 3d computer graphics oriented, you will get a better understanding of how it works in the "real" world; then you can apply that to your "virtual" worlds!
