Latest Update: Final Image: Morning Ride/ Final: Final (

Once again,"Morning Ride" is an image of Princess Ziana, air to the thrown of Terra, making her morning survey of her father’s kingdom. She rides the back of her well trained human servant, a rare breed of creature that once inhabited the planet but was driven to near extinction during the Terrran conquests. Now only a few remain, raised and trained for Terran royalty to safely and honorably live there lives in noble servitude.

Created by me with the help of Lightwave 3D and the CgNetwork community.

Yeah, I'm back. I screwed up my brent3d account somehow. Now I have to re-submit everything under Brent_3D.
This is my concept sketch for my "Morning Ride" 3d illustration. Sorry, lost my Wacom pen so I had to rough it. "Morning Ride" is an image shot of Prince Zego, air to the thrown of Terra, making his morning survey of his father’s kingdom. He rides the back of his human servant, a rare breed of creature that once inhabited the planet before it's near extinction during the Terrran conquests.

Beginning modeling stages of the human servant.

Here's the over all form of the human servant. He'll have boots, rugged pants and some sort of body harness for the rider to use.

I think you've done a good job in modeling so far.

One thing I notice though is the the smaller character is way more stylized the the big guy. Unless you are going to add a lot more definition to the little guy, I would tone down how pronounced the muscle system is in the big guy.

Keep it up.

03 March 2005, 05:53 PM (

Princess overall form close to completion. No garments or details yet.

03 March 2005, 06:16 PM
Hey great job on the modeling process. Cool ideas all the way around.

03 March 2005, 09:42 PM
hi brent....nice modeling here!..nice good luck :)

03 March 2005, 09:58 PM
I like those lightwave stuff, because of using my favorite program maybe:)...The arms with hands are quite pro-done...But the face of the servant must be significantly different, I mean it is so ordinary, man!!!...Master is cool enough for an initial model...Watching closely progress of your project!

03 March 2005, 10:09 PM
Thanks J++ Dragon. Thats just the servants general body type. Now that the Master is pretty much fleshed out I'll begin to bring out some character in the Servant and work back and forth. Must represent. Thanks.

03 March 2005, 10:14 PM
Looking good so far, I like your modeling style.
What kind of terrain is in the princess' kingdom?

03 March 2005, 10:28 PM
Terrain will be grassy with rolling hills. There will be a thick early morning mist. A pleasant and natural surrounding to frame and contrast the wild brute like nature of the servant and the controling and commanding presence of the royal alien princess. At least thats the idea.

04 April 2005, 12:04 AM
hey nice work, it coming along really fast. I especially like the big guy. I will be looking forward to how it plays out. Cheers, good luck.

04 April 2005, 01:58 AM
From one waver to!

Looks like your know your way around the human anatomy too. Your characters are very cool, I will for sure keep checking out your progress.

Subscribing :)

04 April 2005, 10:30 AM
I love the cartoonlike style! maybe thats why I am making somthing that way as well! good luck!

04 April 2005, 08:25 PM

I agree! I just can't imagine 3d without animation. Just a static image? That's torture. I'm going to use bones to pose the characters anyway so animation is probably inevitable, even if it's just for fun. Which leads me to the idea that animators percieve 3d creation differently than illustrators. This is neither bad or good. I just know the perspective on the process and visual results can be quite different. The animator focuses heavily on the mechanics and physical functionality of the work while illustrators focus mainly on detail and composition, but yet there both viewed as being the same. What do you guys think? Are you animator, illustrator or both? Do you see a differance?

04 April 2005, 08:28 PM
Style is really going places, Brent :)

Digging the princess' ears :D and very iconic as an image..... reminds me a little of an Aztecian 'fetish' (in the real sense of the word!)

Hi Brent,

Great style of your modells!
I hope one day I will get this far myself.
Your creature would be the ideal butler for my manga-girlie-idea.
I am eager to start learning animation now.
That`s one of the main reasons, I decided to take part in this challange, because I want to try to rigg and pose my models as well. So far I mainly have been stuck with the modelling part.
But I really want to make movies!!

;>) Jake

04 April 2005, 05:43 AM
Hi again Brent, she's evolving into a very unique individual, keep the great updates coming:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 04:27 PM
Agree with everyone else around - very cool work so far

04 April 2005, 10:15 PM
you´re fast! I´m completely amazed, you´re going to use bones to pose them! :surprised Are you using weight maps or just bones? if I used bones and weight maps for posing in my thread, I won´t get to the deadline in time, for sure. So, you deserve this

The models look great! just about the human I see something strange regarding the muscle that goes from the shoulder to the neck (how´s it called?). I can´t tell exactly what is it.

what colors are you using?
Keep up the good work!

04 April 2005, 03:37 AM (

Didn't want to go to long without posting something. Here's the Princess model after facial modification and the addition of a few details. Working on her full wardrobe now. I'll be putting that up soon.

04 April 2005, 08:57 AM
cool Brent !..the princess is coming along fine :)!

04 April 2005, 09:10 AM
• Great work in here Brent! I like the style!

04 April 2005, 03:15 PM
Nice work Brent, the princess is looking really good. It looks like you need a few more points at the tips of the ears?

04 April 2005, 04:04 PM
Hey there ...nice style...

good luck

04 April 2005, 05:20 PM (

Early image of Master "Princess" as I begin to add her garments. Model is not at it's final resolution so some edges may be rough.

04 April 2005, 07:13 PM
Look really good there Brent! Cant wait to see them rigged

04 April 2005, 07:34 PM
Nice update. This is getting better with every post! The earrings and the head piece really make her work.

04 April 2005, 09:53 PM
Hi again Brent, she's lost all her innocence and suddenly looks real serious like...Great choice in direction. Keep the evolution coming mate:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 06:26 AM
Hi Brent_3D!
Wow, I find your Princess really original one!
As you probably already know, cartoon style becomes my weakness (ok , little passion!) :)
It comes out rather complex
Hairs are especially impressive! Wanna see it posed!! Should cool!

04 April 2005, 03:14 PM (

Wardrobe update. Couple more pieces then its over to the human Servant I go.Thanks for your comments.

04 April 2005, 07:09 PM
great characters mate, i like it... nothing to crit as of yet

04 April 2005, 03:45 PM
like the design of your princess. Waiting for more.

04 April 2005, 09:29 PM (

Tightning up the Princess model a bit. On to the Servant now. After that then textures and surfaces for all and whatever else is needed.

04 April 2005, 09:35 PM (

Working on the Servant now. Time to bring the poor brute to life.

04 April 2005, 01:49 AM
Oops! Mest up my post.

04 April 2005, 01:58 AM (

Servant pretty much fleshed out now. Going onto the rest of his stuff.

04 April 2005, 02:56 PM (

Beginning work on head harness. This will set the tone for the rest of the straps.

04 April 2005, 05:51 PM
Better and Better.

My thread

04 April 2005, 12:25 AM (

"So where's my skirt you pittyful human" spat the Princess, or something like that. Princess is rigged now. The skirt will be setup and deformed for the final composition. Once everyone has details and bones I'll begin on their surface. Slow but steady.

04 April 2005, 02:21 AM (

Lost in her thoughts. Just another shot I thought was interesting.

04 April 2005, 02:26 AM
I absolutely love that character design. Good work!

04 April 2005, 04:33 AM
Nice going with the rest of the princess, and GREAT poses. Nice rigginng too. Do you have anything planned for these two after the challenge?

04 April 2005, 01:00 PM
"So where's my skirt you pittyful human" spat the Princess, or something like that

lol! Now, that's what I call attitude! Wonderful character and great pose

04 April 2005, 02:06 PM
Hey, thanks for the great feed back. To answer a few questions, yes I am starting a new race (well a virtual one) and I hopefully will use the characters and ideas developed here for an animated short that I plan to do during the summer and fall. I don't think the Princess would have it any other way.

04 April 2005, 01:08 PM (

Just messing around looking at relationships between the characters and different moments they may have had together. No time this weekend to really work but had a chance to try out some things. The final comp will be based off the original thumbnail but it's fun to explore other directions. Servant still boneless and devoid of morphs and other important things, their on the way though.

04 April 2005, 01:14 PM
I really like your style! charactor is very unique, and soft lighting is good too! i hope you bring it to final render! keep going !

04 April 2005, 01:28 PM
Great style, the masters expression looks real sweet

The knees look a bit weird though.

05 May 2005, 05:07 PM
hey, that master is just outstanding! Especialy hat :) And cool design (well, servant I like less, as he looks a bit standart for me, but they fit one another well!).
Hope you'll succeed with it in time!

05 May 2005, 05:20 PM
Brent fantastic work on the characters. I watched this thing at the start and it's really evolved. Great stuff. Can't wait for this to go gold

05 May 2005, 05:28 PM
This is lovely- great sculpting, design & soft lighting. 2 things I would try before the final if time permits: get a little more detail in the clouds, so they look a bit more 3d (maybe a quick paintover on a photo & gaussian blur? that's what I did), & also you could try adding something to the servant's skin, since it's a large fairly featureless mass & could do with either a slight dirtmap effect multiplied in, or a tattoo maybe? Anyway, looking good.

05 May 2005, 06:00 PM (

Done, done, done. Thanks to everyone for their comments. By the way it was my wifes idea for the wip. Go figure.

05 May 2005, 06:39 PM
By the way it was my wifes idea for the wip. Go figure.

Haha. ...guess we know who wears the pants then eh?

Great final Brent. Lovely characters and very unique design. Gotta love that smirk on her face

Good luck.

05 May 2005, 07:34 PM
The texture is a bit heavy on the skin. Try to make it look less like noise and more like pores. Maybe even try subdivision scattering.
