this is my concept for composition. there are more sketches but i don't have a scanner, so i can only show u this.
the story of my work is that this character is control by a evil god that seal in the sword. so this god is the master of this young man. the young man now is using the extraordinary force of life that given by the god to summon the force of death. he is the master of those summoned undead, kind of like the ying and yang attraction between them.
so basically there's 2 master, 2 servant.

i know i should spent more time on the composition, but due to some reason i decide to nail down quickly.
any way, i change the pose, the expression and porportion a little. i draw this linework on top of the previous sketch using tablet in photoshop. actually i rather redraw everything on paper but..
i need scanner.
ok, if any one is viewing this thread, thank you for ur time.

sorry for the previous pic, it's too small. i am not familiar with file size and stuff like that. i will try to upload again tonight.

this is my first color.

This may be a bit late, but I'm not too sure the composition works. It is extremely unclear what the guy is up to - I believe a slightly different pose would convey the summoning much better. Right now he also looks like he's either reclining against the cave or falling over. The first idea that I got when looking at the picture was that it's a warrior stuck in a cave which is a bit cramped, with a lot of dead folks, some of which are raising to get some asskicking done at the guy's expense. Also it took me a while to recognise his tail as tail - the way it exits the page in a few places makes it harder to recognise.
Maybe play around a bit more, making him look a bit more like a figure of power?

this is what i have done today. i kind of like the overall feeling now. need to paint in more stuff.

i want to add
-burning ashes in the air
-sword burning on the edges
-green light emit from those skeleton eye
-more detail

hehe, i am pretty new to digital paint so dunno how to plan stuff, just get new idea or change thing while i move on.

at this stage i hope ppl can give me some advice on my painting, thank you.

Welcome dude,

Interesting story concept. I really like your sketch on it. But your colour, i agree with LIIGA, is very unclear who's who. It would be nice to see if your colour piece can somehow capture the looseness and fluidity of your sketch piece. Goodluck

i will see what i can do to bring the theme more clear.

I like how it's looking so far. sort of a combination of Japanese Manga and French Bande Dessine influences... cool!

As for the punching up the connection tot he two characters without changing the composition: You talked about adding some green to the skeleton's eyes, right? Well what if you used a green that wasn't being used elsewhere in the pic, and also used that same exact color in the glow around the card, so that there's an instant visual connection that the card is what he's using to control the skeleton? (Assuming of course that he is. Which i am.)

Anyhow, it's coming along. Good luck with it!

i changed a lot since last post. the major changes i did is the size of the painting. now i have space to put the real master on the top of the painting.

i really glad that i have join the competition, learn so much about painting while doing it.. always thinking to redraw everytime i discover something new.. but have to finish..

05 May 2005, 09:30 PM (

this is the close up. (not very close actually), but can see more detail.

i was going to add
1.the green aura that link the character and those skeleton which i mention b4 but i am busy fixing some other problem... particle flying on the air

3.finish the background and finisf the master on top..

i am going the paint in outline at the end but not too sure yet... anyone don't like the idea?

this work is incredible the only bad thing is that we dont feel enough the "Master and servants "idea
otherwise your a great work;)

And maybe the back ground should be darker ;)

xin yu! while im not too keen of the skeletons below and stuff..its damn good seeing your work again! haha big it up for my college homeboy xin yu! whats that stuff at his left arm? that pointy stuff at its left shoulder. not too keen on the composition = the tail bit where it ends at the bottom of the page and is slightly cut on the right? i didnt really realize it at first, took me a while before realizing it was a tail. dont beat me up when i see you again eh! ill be following this thread!

heya. jason here.

love the final composition of this one and since u did explain it to me before and i actually understood. haha

anyways, its great that you're done. i love the colors for all the skeletons on the ground and how theyre eyes glow. but somehow, coming from you, it doesnt look very eery. :P
im not so sure id be satisfied with the larger part of the top area. you're probably trying to make it blur bcos it is far? or not the centre of attraction? or maybe bcos this is not the final yet. haha.

one more thing though. i still dont really feel the 'glow' or the 'magic' of all the glowing particles and stuffs. am i getting it wrong? o_O

hope to see the final soon. anyways, i waited for you on msn since you told me u'd be back at the same time but you didnt. im gonna kill you for making me wait :(
