Latest Update: Lighting: lighting (

ok, so I couldn't just go to bed without brightening the characters a bit.

I hope I'm doing this right. First time entering. My original idea wouldn't work due to copyright issues, so I had to work on a new idea. Came up with this one. Just a quick sketch I did in Photoshop. more updates to come. I'm going to try and do this as fast as possible cause I could get a call to work on a new project any moment.

cropped original sketch and quickly colored it in to figure out what color/light scheme I want to use.

Heheh, I quite like this actually. I love the Monty Burns-ish look on the Master's face. :) Looking forward to seeing where this goes!

that was a nice idea to color scheme your work.and for the most I just want to add I like your concept...

after a few quick sketches of what I wanted to have the master look like, I settled on this one, so I colored it in. Butler concepts to come.

04 April 2005, 09:23 PM (

concept of the servant character. your basic butler.

04 April 2005, 01:33 AM (

progress of modeling done on the Master character.

04 April 2005, 04:49 AM (

work in progress model of the butler's head.

04 April 2005, 04:52 AM
I think I need to make the master's head less narrow. maybe widen the jaw and reshape the eyes and just in general widen the face. not sure. I'll have to sleep on it and look at it with fresh eyes.

04 April 2005, 10:51 PM (

just more modeling on the butler. If anyone knows any good tips for modeling wrinkles, I'd be happy to hear them. wrinkle modeling isn't my strong suit.

04 April 2005, 11:26 PM
I would definitively narrow my color range. Unless you,re going for the "fun" style.
Red purple yellow brown is to much and can be distracting. I would go more toward the purple as it is a quite regal color and isn,t used much.
Of course just my opinion.

04 April 2005, 03:48 AM (

another butler model update.

04 April 2005, 05:49 PM (

more modeling of the butler character

04 April 2005, 11:21 PM (

some simple shaders applied to the model.

04 April 2005, 11:36 PM
nice shaders DJSmackMackey, i like it. It's done with 3DSMax?

04 April 2005, 11:50 PM
Thanks. I'm using Maya. It's my weapon of choice. :)

04 April 2005, 05:45 AM
I like the expression you've got on him, a mix of submissive and noble.

04 April 2005, 09:35 PM (

a new direction for the master character. aiming more for a real person this time, instead of the vampiric character from before.

04 April 2005, 03:25 AM (

more on the master character model

04 April 2005, 05:44 AM (

just messing around with facial features and making his skin shader. I may decide to give him a more pale color, but I wanted to start off with a more natural shade as a jumping off point.

04 April 2005, 10:50 PM (

more modeling on the master

more modeling

05 May 2005, 10:49 PM (

just started texturing and shading the master. I don't know if I'm even going to have time to finish this thing in time, but I'm gonna try.

05 May 2005, 03:31 AM (

more texturing.

05 May 2005, 04:48 AM

I changed my mind about the Master's hair too. I thought the Doc Brown style hair I had in the concept didn't fit him, since he's so sickly and disgusting. It seemed fitting to have him with this greasy thinning comb-over instead.

05 May 2005, 02:22 AM (

another view, with his teeth showing.

Man oh man, that is so wonderfully creepy. Awesome work. His eyes look almost milked over. Are you going to keep both his eyes like that, or just one? :D

05 May 2005, 05:52 PM
yeah, I don't want his eyes to appear like they are glowing really. I want that cataract look. Having it in only one eye sounds like a good idea though. I'll keep that in mind for when I'm doing the lighting milestone.

Thanks for the praise guys.

Goood texture and I like hair :)

05 May 2005, 11:50 PM (

texturing on the Butler model.

05 May 2005, 12:05 AM
very very nice progress. like the master's oily hair. keep going :)

05 May 2005, 10:36 PM (

I didn't know if I should put this under texturing or modeling, so I went with Texturing, since I'm done with the model and I've started texturing. This is the Master's chair.

05 May 2005, 11:52 PM (

more on the chair.
I don't even know if I'm going to get this project done in time. We'll have to wait and see.

05 May 2005, 03:28 AM (

just working on the set.
Also, if anyone knows what the difference between the lighting and rendering stage is, I wouldn't mind knowing. To me they seem to be the same thing.

05 May 2005, 06:36 AM (

just putting everything into place. I didn't bother putting milestones for the background stuff because it's not that important to the piece. Some of it might not even show up much when I render. plus the models suck. :)

05 May 2005, 06:15 AM (

Working on the lighting. I think I need to add some lights to kick up the characters from the background. But it's late and I need to get to bed.

05 May 2005, 06:55 AM (

ok, so I couldn't just go to bed without brightening the characters a bit.
