Okay, I've actually been working on this for a few days now. I started working when the comp was started but didn't actually sign up for it until an hour ago. So I'll post here what I've done so far.
Subsequent updates I'll keep further apart so you can see bigger jumps in progress.
Started off with the main wall
Did one of the buildings behind it
Did a different building
Added a bit more detail and put them all together

From here I want to change the camera angle to look over the buildings a bit more. Also because a lot of the details I was putting in ended up behind other things so you couldn't see them!

Alright, that's what I'm up to now. Any crits are more than welcome!

03 March 2005, 02:39 AM
It's BUTIFUL! No crits so far... :bounce: eagerly awaiting more

Dude, thats a long story to tell. Well, I hope you make it Marcusy :D.

Looks really nice dude. I saw the early renders too. Btw, where is the human character!!??

Take care dude, and keep up the dutch!

PS: Spanksalot

Cheers, bro.
Okay, I didn't realise we had to actually show a human character in its entirety.
I'll probably have a poor person sitting down leaning against the fence, staring at the car.

03 March 2005, 05:41 AM
i really like the look of your becoming scene, cant wait to see when you add that industrial zone on the backround...

03 March 2005, 06:08 AM
sup marcus.....

first of all "my spoon is too big" second of all "im a banana." lol great work so far man.. keep it up man ill be watching...

03 March 2005, 07:46 AM
Say, Do you want to go see a movie?

Like the concept. Will enjoy watching this one progress. I like the idea but I will save my critics until you have a bit more done.

04 April 2005, 03:51 AM
Hey Marcusy,

you have the idea of making a poor man there. But you mentioned to me some interesting ideas about making the master a rich guy that comes down on his car. What would happen if you twist the idea into making him the servant somehow? Dude, gotta read the instructions. Lucky for you we picked this one early, I wouldn't like to see you spend too much time at the college trying to fix this one up.

Forgot to say in the last post that I really like the feel to the place. Gotta watch for those tiling textures though (yeah, like I can speak). Great feel from the lights as well. Keep it up dude.

04 April 2005, 10:18 AM
What if I have the car being stopped by a scruffy, slightly mean looking person? One of the poor people who lives here. I can have some other people peering around corners, through windows etc.
The rich guy in the car, who is usually the boss (or master) of the poor workers, is now out of his element and has wandered into their world. Now they are stopping him, possibly to rob and assault him. Suddenly the master is the servant to his ex-servants.
Does that sound okay to you?

04 April 2005, 04:37 PM
dont know about the others but that sounds good to me.. i say you sketch it out first, post it and then start it..

04 April 2005, 06:38 AM
Okay, I've done more modelling.

I still need to put more rubbish everywhere, put crack and damage on the road, walls etc.
I've made the lighting so it has more of a "sun down" sort of feel to it.

I'll re-do the concept sketch so it looks more like what I'm going for now. Stay tuned folks! Same CG time, same CG channel!

04 April 2005, 07:32 AM
It sure is coming along nicely! I like the feel you're going for m8! Just pay a bit more attention to every single detail in there, so that it will be as close to perfect as possible! For example you still haven't gotten rid of the texture tiling there! Anyway, I'm holding my thumbs up for ya Dutch bastard  ;)

Btw: We flew via Amsterdam from Dubai... MAN, I went into some door saying: "Alleen personeel" thinking that that must have been the right gate... but, unfortunately, they kicked me outta there! Geez, Dutch bastards! :D :D

04 April 2005, 08:44 AM
looking great man i agree with loocas fix that tiling .. it looks like you started fixing it.. just a little more on the last buildings roof.. other then that it looks great man.. Fantastic!

04 April 2005, 09:05 AM
Looking good pal! are u hosting your images outer this site? I suggest u to post them as milestones with the submit entry procedure, you may get desqualified as i 've know, very good so far! keep 'em comming!

04 April 2005, 02:08 PM
It's looking great marcusy :) can't wait till its finished.

Btw: We flew via Amsterdam from Dubai... MAN, I went into some door saying: "Alleen personeel" thinking that that must have been the right gate... but, unfortunately, they kicked me outta there! Geez, Dutch bastards! :D :D

Serves you right mate. Don't knock the dutch...unless you do it to Marcus in his face. Which is my job now. :applause:

Btw, Marcusy, the lighting is coming along really well mate. For the rubbish you can just create little rocks and Reactor them through out the scene. I know, Reactor obsessed. But hey!

I like the idea of the rich guy becoming the master of his own servants or at least being at their mercy. I think that somehow if you still make him more exposed it would be better. Maybe like having him run away from them due to his fear? Just tossing ideas around. I think you gotta put more thought into the portrayal or Master-Servant. It will help your composition a lot.

You are the first who started with the bildings..

Good way..

my servant:

04 April 2005, 09:44 AM (

I've got the basic lighting setup how I want it. The colour and direction of the lighting gives a nice "sun down" feel.

04 April 2005, 10:11 AM
looking good dude.. really got the lighting working good .. does represent sundown.. great stuff marcus

04 April 2005, 01:11 AM
since you got the sundown mood the scene, why not make is a death/decay/diminish of power for the man in the suit? could play out well

05 May 2005, 12:00 PM (

Finished rendering the car which will feature as the "master" roll.
It started as a Bentley Continental, but I strayed from the blueprint too much and now it's more my own creation.

05 May 2005, 06:29 AM (

The car has been positioned into the street scene along with one of the characters.
I think the headlights now have the effect I wanted them to have.

05 May 2005, 05:20 AM (

The factories that will feature as the backgrou.d for my scene. I will buildings to fill the entire horizon.

05 May 2005, 06:37 AM (

The factories have been added to the background of my scene, complete with lighting.
I'm now in the process of adding smoke coming from all the smoke-stacks.
Note that volumetric lighting has been turned off for this render.

05 May 2005, 02:43 AM
Mighty update man! That is looking damn sweet. Can I hear someone approaching the end image? Lucky you mate.

No real critics, it's all making really nice sense now. A suggestion or two: for the factory background you might want to make the smoke coming out as thick as possible and make sure you make it "orangey" at the bottom to show fires and other machinery being used in the ground. Made great progress here Marcusy, well done.

05 May 2005, 08:21 AM
Very good my Dutch spiky friend!

I like the background stuff, but there's one thing I dislike and that's lighting! :banghead: You should concentrate most of your key lights to the point or subject, the background shouldn't be lit this way, or at least, if you want to stress that out a little, use some kind of a spot light rig, but still the current lighting setup makes the environment to look somehow as if it was a tiny plastic model... Also work a little bit on the textures, you can do that in post production, so just keep those basic ones and make them a bit more appealing in PS at the end.

Other than that, way too cool! :buttrock:

05 May 2005, 04:15 AM (

Yes, lame I know. THis is pretty much the only actual texture in the image. Everything else is procedural.
I only post it here because texturing is one of the required milestones.

05 May 2005, 04:25 AM (

I could have sworn I posted this right at the start, but now I'm told I haven't submitted it yet.
So here you go.
