"Nice View!...": (http://<font%20size=) Roy Lichtenstein
Inspired by jmBoekestein

OK you know guys I like to experiment with the format now and then to avoid things getting too stale around here.

So, I want to try something different for today.
Let’s try to illustrate an image emulating the style of a famous painter (But it is OK if you want to ignore this rule.)

I have selected Roy Lichtenstein (*-http%3A// happens to be one of my favorite pop art artists.
I find his work quirky and endearing and quite unique. And I admire that he created
a color and composition style, inpired by comercial art, and made it into his own,

He was one of the principal artists of the pop art movement in the 60's, and his work has been imitated and copied to this day.

Check out these links below for reference purposes: ( ( ( (art + bio)
A concise history of the artist Roy Lichenstein (*-http%3A//
Yahoo (art)

If you are not interested in this participating in this little experiment, just do the usual.

Welcome to the cgtalk sketch group.

We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.

These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* 640 x 480 / 480 x 640 OR 800 x 600 /600 x 800
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

03 March 2005, 10:26 PM
I kinda went off and did my own thing on this one (after a nasty attempt to recreate Roy Lichtenstein's style).
photoshop / tablet

03 March 2005, 02:42 AM
Wow ... this is a cool thread. Nice work all..

Here is mine ... 2hours/wacom/photoshop.

03 March 2005, 03:00 AM
Irony abounds in this thread - I didn't realize Ron's whole perogative was to emphasize the commercialist bent that was taking over the art world. I thought what better way to show that than to have a young lady shopping for a television?

Pencil & Paper --> Photoshop w/ WACOM, 1.5 hrs.

How the heck did you guys get the dots on your images? All I could manage was the color halftone tool, and that broke everything up into it's primaries (I just wanted to have dots of the original color).

03 March 2005, 03:41 AM
nothing to do with nice view, just an idea that popped into my head.

35 min, PS and Wacom

element5- you nailed it. great work. Best post today.

Great job ( everyone...

However, mine seems to be very un-roy now that I read Flatuloso's note. (Maybe I should have looked into him some more.)

Squibbit: I'm not to sure but Brad sure does pop up alot. I have a feeling that I've seen him in a few RL paintings and obviously in Master mybutterflyiris' works too.

Will look further.....

Ugh, got this somewhat finished at last. 3 hrs last night, plus half an hour today.

I originally was trying to do it all with the pen tool, but just couldn't draw the shapes well enough that way. I wanted a better background, but have had enough of it, tbh.

Interesting exercise - it's not something I'd normally do.

03 March 2005, 01:58 PM
the pop art didnt really work out for me :p

about an hour wacom painter 7

Hehe Thanx I really enjoyed doing this piece..:)

and everyone has done some outstanding work :bounce:

03 March 2005, 02:55 PM
Just breaking into the daily sketch forum. The halftone pattern was ok - but I couldn't bear the true yellow/red/blue halftone. This was done in roughly 60 minutes in painter classic with the halftone and letterbox added in photoshop.

03 March 2005, 05:15 PM

I had my exams yesterday and today! Nice adaptation. going to make one for sport. Good entries everyone!

I could kick myself man!:banghead:

03 March 2005, 05:19 PM
Another image I made for this thread: (

Wacom / PS Elements / almost an hour hosted. Seems that service may have been down earlier. Hopefully all my images displaying okay.

Keep up the great work everyone!

03 March 2005, 05:36 PM
The Damned: Yes! You finished! *jumps up and down clapping hands together with glee :) :)

04 April 2005, 01:12 AM
nice, you guys did a good job imitating his style..

anim_ziggy: tee hee, I thought of a similar idea. :)

04 April 2005, 01:29 AM
I have a cheesy entry I'll post later when I regain access to my FTP site. But I have to know how everyone is getting such great dots? I played around with halftones, and don't like how it came out. Suggestions?

Really great work, everyone!

Really great work, everyone!

I downloaded my dots off of google, took the dots into photoshop. Defined it as a pattern and then filled the area in that i wanted dotty, then rubbed what I didnt need out. I used a few layers, hope that helps :)

04 April 2005, 04:31 AM
Yes, element5 - that helps MUCHO! I've never created a pattern like that before, but no time to learn like the present, huh? Thanks for the tip!

Here is my cheesy, dot-free sketch. Trust me, the dots would have made it ROCK - I'm sure of it! HA HA! PS about 1 hr.

This turned out to be a really good thread with some good work.

Robertt - I especially love your ladies #1 and #3. But for some reason, #2 looks like a female impersonator to me! :)

04 April 2005, 02:21 PM
haha, thanks robin :) i agree - the second one was iffy.
The first and third ones I did are my favorites.
Yours made me laugh!

Congratulations on another great thread folks
