Latest Update: Coloring WIP: the blood garden (

I am back.

03 March 2005, 10:01 PM
welcome good luck!!

03 March 2005, 07:08 PM
So, it's begun.
I am still working on the concept.
This is just the one of ideas I made.
The betrayed angel dealing with the satan, and the pet snake girl around him. That is the main theme.
However, I am not crazy about it.
I don't like to see a cheesy one.
I will probably keep working on the idea, and post it.
I look forward to hearing from others.

03 March 2005, 07:12 PM
that looks great, can't wait for more!

03 March 2005, 08:48 PM
Nice entry there taeyoungchoi. Got my attention.

03 March 2005, 09:02 PM
the concept sketch allready show good depth... composition also great.
what a twisted concept!

03 March 2005, 05:29 AM
Great piece of work here! And this is just one of the ideas you have?!?! Geez, I'd like to see this one go all the way. I'll keep my eye on it.

03 March 2005, 05:36 AM
Wow! Assuming you carry this kind of quality through to the final you're on a winner!

03 March 2005, 12:04 PM
All my encouragement, it left very well, I will follow closely
your progression, Good luck.

03 March 2005, 12:09 PM
This has the potential to be brilliant............keep developing it!

03 March 2005, 02:03 PM
Thank you all for the coments.

I have been encouraged by you guys!

I will keep developing it.:)

03 March 2005, 02:11 PM (

Here is the idea sketchs for the master.
It was done before the previous composition. Looking for somehow different designs for the king.
The right image is the early image for the composition which was transformed from the another quick sketch. I will post the image too.

03 March 2005, 02:20 PM
I accidently deleted the first image I posted yesterday. I will work on little big and post it soon.

03 March 2005, 02:28 PM (

Hi, this is the image gave me some idea about how the composition would be.
Very quick sketch.

03 March 2005, 07:14 PM
Beautiful colors in the concept sketch- can't wait to see how the whole master/servant part is handled in it. You've already got the setting down ,thats for sure

03 March 2005, 07:20 PM
that's the star brush there o_o yet it doesn't look off at all. you have got to be the best custom brush user I've seen : O

03 March 2005, 07:30 PM
I agree with sidchagan, the colors look awesome :) Composition is also a good one with great feel of space and well balanced. I look forward to see the servant :)

03 March 2005, 02:31 PM (

Here is the comparison of the old concept sketch and new one. I turned the point of view so, the portion of character is larger than before. I want to focus on the characters than the background.

03 March 2005, 02:35 PM
yep that new sketch depicts it way better.

*please sir can i have sum more* kinda thing goin on there.

03 March 2005, 02:49 PM (

This is the composition focusing more on characters. I like the idea of the bloodfall falling behind the king.

03 March 2005, 02:51 PM
yeh thats looking amazin!

03 March 2005, 03:32 PM
Lighting already looks very nice. Like the camera angle / perspective as well.

Should become great. :)

03 March 2005, 04:42 PM
very nice Tae! dynamic camera angle, dramatic lighting and everything....

good job!

03 March 2005, 11:18 PM (

The first approach of coloring scheme.
It is getting too dark and I can't see at all. I will do other try.

04 April 2005, 03:43 AM
wow! nice colors man! I keep my eyes on this too!

04 April 2005, 03:45 AM (

I like this color scheme so far.
However, I feel like I have to go back start over. Without solid designs of characters and background, it's getting hard to keep it up.
Anyway, I will keep the composition and color key.

04 April 2005, 06:07 AM
Looking very good, even compared to the last one. I like the darker tone, and your use of color is great once again. Nothing to suggest about the composition though, have to wait till you work on the actual piece.

04 April 2005, 08:11 AM
Strong and powerful composition; perfect for the theme you've got going here! Got a feeling this is going to end up looking very special!

04 April 2005, 01:58 PM (

Just little changes.

04 April 2005, 02:17 PM
Hiya Tae,

Great concept, colour and lighting. Looks to be coming along nicely  No crits from me.

04 April 2005, 03:10 PM
scarry and beautyful at same time! And the composition is really dramatic!

congrats! :bounce:

(but the red-orange colors a bit to worm for the theme... if i was you i used much blue and green colors and less warm colors - only for the blood)

keep on posting!

04 April 2005, 03:16 PM

A detail Sketch for the angel.

04 April 2005, 08:19 PM
I would like to write down some story about this image, because my friend Bruno and my wife want to do that.
This project, the Blood Garden, I am working on has the main theme. It is love.
Even though, it doesn't look like it at all, love is what I want to talk about.
The angel loves the snake woman and wants to be a slave of the king of death. That is why he betrayed the good side and cut the king's head off to bring it to the evil king.
Everything he done is for her, not for the king.
She is just playing hard to get.
It is going to be fun to watch how I am handling this story.
Have a great day!

04 April 2005, 11:40 PM
nice stuff Tae. Check your proportions though. His right leg seems a bit too short...

04 April 2005, 02:08 AM
hey there,i must say this entry complete stunt me,love the dramatic angle and the mood is :thumbsup:i agreed with bruno here, the right legs proportion should be fix alil bit:)keep it coming!

04 April 2005, 07:15 AM (

The more refined image of the fallen angel.

Dancin' Mochi
04 April 2005, 11:52 PM

It's Momo from school. Remember me? If not ask Bruno.
Anyhow, nice to find you here. You are an awesome artist(well, I knew that for a long time). I can't wait to see the finalized composition. I'll check back again. I would not say Good Luck because you won't need it anyway.

04 April 2005, 05:17 AM (

This is the first detail design work for the snake woman who is the slave of the king of death.
She is supposed to be sexy and attractive. Now, looks little gross. I think that is because of the stripes.
I will keep working on it.

04 April 2005, 05:24 AM (

Geeee, looks too fancy.

04 April 2005, 07:19 AM (

I like this simple look.

04 April 2005, 09:30 AM
like the snake lady style esp.

04 April 2005, 01:56 PM
nice work so far, great drawing style

04 April 2005, 01:13 AM (

I just couldn't help having fun with this snake woman painting. Someday I want to finish this painting as a separate piece.

04 April 2005, 01:28 AM
Tae, The throne illustration is coming along great. The only suggestion that i would make is that the straight profile shot of the head that the winged character is holding is a bit static. Maybe rotate it towards us or away from us ever so slightly. Great work so far.

Thank you for the thoughtful coment.

04 April 2005, 05:32 PM
The snake woman really is a beautiful painting, the colors and her expression are mind blowing.
Why dont you make her the master of a separate piece, if you decide to use it, rather than the previous concept? Either one would work well.

04 April 2005, 06:21 PM
Definitely finish the snake woman! It's excellent... And great painty quality to it so far.

04 April 2005, 09:03 PM
Awesome snakewoman!! Love the scales. I look forward to seeing the rest of your progress :)

04 April 2005, 09:47 PM
Happy to see the responds from others!
I will try to finich the snake woman as a separate piece.
Thanks for the coments!

04 April 2005, 09:51 PM
that snake woman is looking really great!

04 April 2005, 04:52 PM (

Just finalizing the design for the King.
I like a symple design of the king.
Just body itself would be good design with few hair, wing and helmet.

04 April 2005, 05:07 PM
You have some really wonderful stuff here. I love the elegance of the designs. It feels somewhat Frazetta-inspired. Nice! Good luck with it all. :)

04 April 2005, 07:56 PM
nice sketches dude!!! High quality!!! Can't wait to see the updates

04 April 2005, 08:05 PM
Wow, very cool. I love the way you develop, all componets are fantastic.
just 1 small sugestion, the snakewoman looks a bit too loveley for a vilain for me. but in the other hand, she's very cute. on the rest no crits. Fantastric light, great composition, awesome caracterdesign, what shall i say? this simply rocks! keep it up!

04 April 2005, 09:32 PM
Taking some time to see your work.
Well I do appreciate your snake woman. I've already noticed your work... It's really impressive. You've got strong skills in design and colouring and nothing to envy to french artists:thumbsup:

Waiting to see more about the king....

04 April 2005, 12:56 PM (

Another sketch for the king of death.

04 April 2005, 01:07 PM
Yeah coooooool:bounce::bounce:

04 April 2005, 02:05 PM
Way cool man, Your sketches have atmosphere and remind me a little of Frazetta.

Good luck can't wait to see more

04 April 2005, 02:19 PM (

Here is the comparison of old and new sketch. I made the king and woman bigger and changed the pose of the angel in order to focus more on the characters. I am not sure if I am going to the right direction.
I don't like new compostion too much.
I will probably change it.
Also, background should be polished more and redesigned. The wall and cliff would be covered by human corpses or something like it.

04 April 2005, 06:01 PM
Lookin' good. My suggestions would be to make the angel's head bowed, and to remove the architecture at the top-right of the drawing- it makes the room seem too small, so it doesnt have as much impact.

04 April 2005, 06:43 PM (

It is getting into what I want to have.
It lost some of dynamic elements, but I like this composition focusing on the characters better. Especially, the previous one had too big portion for the angel who is supposed to be the seconary interesting character. Now the King is biggest and tallest. Actually, the king is three times taller than normal human. So, point of view is following well in good order of the king, snake woman and to the angel.
I will probably keep this composition to the end...... Maybe not.

I changed lots! before seeing this one.
Anyway, thank you for the coment!

04 April 2005, 09:33 PM
Oh wow really impressive colors here. Man i didnt know so many people were doing the angel and demon thing...Makes me want to rethink mine. I seriously cant wait to see how this one is going to turn out. Even in sketch stage its gorgeous.

04 April 2005, 09:40 PM
This is looking really good. The graduation of colours from purple to red to orange is excellent and works well with the tilted perspective. The angel looks a bit lost in the gloom, although I know this is only the sketch.

04 April 2005, 09:46 PM
wow, the blood garden! thats is just brilliant! and i like the overall colour scheme youve got going. really REALLY wanna see how this turns out.

04 April 2005, 10:23 PM
Wow! I love what you've done with this one... kinda gives me that King Conan vibe. Cool!

Love the warm palette, nice accents of purple and orange, too! Composition is fine, although if you're not settled on this one you could play around with the size of the foreground character?

Great stuff... I'll be checking back for more updates! Cheers.

04 April 2005, 10:46 PM
wow, thats amazing!!! o love your color taste. very POWERFULL!!!  :scream:

what program do u use?

04 April 2005, 05:51 AM
I like this piece, composition is really good, but I mainly love the lighting/atmosphere you've created. Very moody/menacing.

04 April 2005, 11:00 AM
:applause: wow.. this is impressive... i love the concept and the mood... not much to say.. i like the two framing rocks/walls to both sides of the picture! combined with the glowing red, yellow and purle colors in the middle i think they give a good feeling of "pressure" or something...

can´t wait to see more! :) *subscribe*

04 April 2005, 11:21 AM
Very nice look forward to seeing this finished !

04 April 2005, 12:11 PM
wow, thats amazing!!! o love your color taste. very POWERFULL!!!  :scream:

I am using photoshop. and willing to use others later on.

04 April 2005, 12:41 PM
great lighting, and colours..:bounce: keep up!

04 April 2005, 12:58 PM
whoa man, it is looking truly impressive and the choice of colours is dead on perfect:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 12:57 PM (

I didn't change much.
Now, I think it is time to grab some pencil and finalize the line sketch.

04 April 2005, 01:48 PM
Wonderful work. The lighting looks great and dramatic. I specially like the scale of the master compared to the woman on the left. One small suggestion...the master's legs should have some cast shadows from the seat, and not fully illuminated. Keep it up.

04 April 2005, 04:57 PM
woow, very nice!!! the color and light is working very good on this piece, good job:thumbsup: !!! i like it! gonna keep watchin!

keep it comin!!! good luck!

04 April 2005, 09:39 PM (

The comparison of two color schemes.

04 April 2005, 09:42 PM
Let me hear your thoughts!

04 April 2005, 10:20 PM
Hi taeyoungchoi

To me, the right one is better
Just one crit about the king's legs : they seem a little too high, making his belly too short (in my humble opinion) : the kings doesn't look like comfortably seated. Hope this may help.

Keep it up

Cheers Snail

04 April 2005, 10:57 PM
i definatly dig the cooler colors the image on the left is too saturated with red... and just looks occuard. but ingeneral thumbs up on the fantastic work from me!~

04 April 2005, 11:00 PM
I think the one on the right is better. It has more color variation and richness. The left one is too saturated with reds and oranges.

Very cool image. Can't wait to see this taken further!

04 April 2005, 11:10 PM
The colors are really coming out now, keep it up.

04 April 2005, 11:42 PM
impressive! going good! looking nice*nice coloring / composition / concept
good luck and see you:)

04 April 2005, 01:53 AM
Yeah, the right one... and may I just say this piece is coming along very well! Totally impressive. Keep going!

04 April 2005, 06:01 AM
Thank you all for the kind coments!
I wish I have the same color calibrated monitors. I painting this painting at three computers.
One is at work for lunch time painting, and other two monitors are at home. None of them showing same colors, and impossible to match it. Frustrating...
None of you guys doesn't like saturated color. Me neither. However, I want to keep the color for the some parts. I will try..
Again, Thank you guys !

04 April 2005, 11:57 AM
hi, getting better and better...! What do you think about the focus change: from the beast-master to the fallen angel. The light come from the back top, and it makes stonger shadows to the monster and highlighted the angel. This possible will be more dramatic feeling... i think -what are you think about?

(sorry for my bad english)

cheers: Kornél

04 April 2005, 12:14 PM
been a while since i replied to this thread.

but its coming along excellent.

keep it up!

04 April 2005, 02:27 AM
yeah, these non-calibrated monitors at work are frustating... I mean, they're calibrated, but not for the web, cause we don't do stuff for the web anyway...

looks nice though (on my monitor). I'll tell which one I like best on Monday, when you open the file on that nice non-cg-talk-calibrated monitor... ;)

04 April 2005, 03:38 AM
I deffinetly like the left image, the more intense color. But it gets too intense in the wrong areas. A combination of these two would be good. Mabie the main figures in the light use the intense color scheme, the backgrouns and forground use the dull color

04 April 2005, 05:36 PM (

I think I am getting the final color scheme for the painting. I left some saturated color around the king of dead and put the opposite green color around the angel in order to set the angel against the king.

04 April 2005, 02:06 PM
I love your image (drawing, composition, color) and that makes my comment uneasy. For we are in the same "situation" : our concepts are in contradiction with one rule of the challenge...
From the challenge instructions
the nature of these roles is one that is particular to the human condition, and therefore requires at least one human component, whether in the dominant or the submissive role.

The remark was made by a member of the challenge on my thread, so I've checked in the FAQ forum, which confirm the sad news.
From Leonard
Does one have to be human or can it be semi-human?
It needs to be 100% homo-sapien. I did not write the rules (it was collectively written by numerous people), but we are all accepting this as a rule and interpreting that one needs to be a 'human' (i.e. character depicting the globally accepted homo-sapien species form).

Don't really know myself how I can handle that, meaning changing one of the characters without destroying the meaning of the concept...or searching for a new concept?

Sorry for this... I'd be glad to discuss the problem with you and other members.
Good luck

04 April 2005, 03:14 PM
the 1st time i visited this site, mhen your image really stands out... dark, evil... i was like, these guys are cool... awesome dude. jst some thought, maybe a some scales on that tail :) , or maybe not. keep it up!!

04 April 2005, 08:56 PM (

It is frustrating.
Getting into the detail, I found out wings of the king are very stiff and not cool shape. Also, it covering so big space. So, I changed the idea again.
I put some dynamic on the wing and half of the wings are soaked in the bloodfall. I think that would be fine.
The wing are not 100% solid opacity objets. They will have some translucency. So, the up light coming through the wing will have lots of variation from the bloodfall.
Also, I will open the left space like right side. and put extra tree on the top of the fall.

04 April 2005, 02:14 PM
Hi taeyoungchoi

always nice sketches:thumbsup:
And don't forget the 100% homo-sapiens character

04 April 2005, 07:15 PM
i like your 1st concept, the angle, etc... but thats just me...

04 April 2005, 06:33 PM (

I start sketching finally.
It is going to be huge mess with the complicated background like this, unless everything is on balance. It will be the main challenge for me.

04 April 2005, 06:37 PM (

I changed the helmet design and little big sketched over.

04 April 2005, 05:44 AM (

Here is the coloring on the new composition. I borrowed some from the previous painting and painted over little big. I won't change any major composition. No time for change.
Time managing is the biggest issue all the times. I wasted too much time just having fun. Now, it is time for sitting and painting details.

04 April 2005, 06:18 AM
I like the way of lighting that shining to the characters...
So very impressive...Good luck

04 April 2005, 01:32 PM
Your last color give your picture mora and more strength. It really give the impression of master. Great !

04 April 2005, 01:37 PM
Yesss it looks better this way
Although i'm not quite sure about the wings... too tiny in my opinion.
After he is the master... thinking about "The Cell" with J. Lopez, the bad guy had clothes and a cap which was part of the entire (huge) room.

Keep going on

04 April 2005, 04:34 PM

That's really good point. Make me want to change the composition again.

04 April 2005, 06:02 PM (

The wings are expanded. I like it better.

04 April 2005, 06:22 PM
hey Tae,

how about some crows resting on the tip of his bat wing?

04 April 2005, 07:12 PM
great style man! I'd almost keep it like that ...

04 April 2005, 07:47 PM
it is very good your painting, all the best for the continuation

04 April 2005, 12:44 AM
Nice job with the wings, definitely makes it seem more menacing. I also like the color tone in this- considering the skin tones are more human, they actually seem more hellish than the reddish tint in the concept art.

04 April 2005, 02:15 AM
youve really done good with colors. will be back. cheers.

04 April 2005, 07:49 AM
Thanks for taking account of my suggestion :)
Now you have to draw a big menacing shadow on the background Hehe ... and crows as suggested brunowerneck

Feel free to draw & paint what you really want
Colours are great

Keep going on Tae

05 May 2005, 10:15 PM (

I am back.

05 May 2005, 10:16 PM
cool painting style

05 May 2005, 02:50 AM
I like what you have done with the colours keep up the good work.

05 May 2005, 08:32 AM
Looking very good...but watch the time you have left!

05 May 2005, 08:37 PM
simply love it :) colors, brushstrokes, everything...

05 May 2005, 10:19 PM
"Roger, roger... we lost taeyoungchoi... i repeat... we lost taeyoungchoi"

Where are you ?

05 May 2005, 07:35 AM
Wow, painted fantastic! now seems we all have a very busy weekend, so happy painting and keep on rocking!

05 May 2005, 04:53 PM
that is some character u got there. And the pose is very 'foreboding'. I hope you finish it by the deadline as im keen to see the final result.

Good luck

05 May 2005, 05:01 PM
looks interesting, cool concept. good job on that snake girl, her pose is great.

05 May 2005, 04:04 PM
