San Francisco, CA, September 20th, 2002 -- Toonstruck placed its Animation Project Tracking and Asset Management Software into open beta. Toontrack is now available online at After the open beta period ends, Toontrack will continue to be accessible online and a separate version will be made available for download and installation on a studios private server.

Toontrack provides a private login/ID for each member of the team and allows for the assigning of tasks, daily submission and review, spreadsheet style status of all shots with information on how far along each department has progressed. A sequence/shot browser allow individuals to view thumbnails of each shot and see important details about its status (from each department), notes from other users, how long the shot is, who is working on it, where in production it is, what files, dailies, and tasks are associated with that shot. Additionally you may see the latest animation movie of that shot and see plate information, compositing details, when it was last updated, and more.

Asset management and version control/history tools are included that link directly with Maya animation software. An individual can import, reference, or open files directly into Maya from several convenient points within Toontrack. Check-out and Check-in functionality is offered and allows for a scene file to only be opened by one user at any one moment. Upon file Check-in, the artist supplies details about their work and it is saved along with the scene file back into the project directories. At any time a user may check the history of a file, and revert back to a previously saved version at any time.
