thanks NOOB. :)

be waiting for the validation to post my draft sketches up.

04 April 2005, 06:41 AM (

here's my first drafts for the concept design.

Concept 1:
I wanted to create an arena that of which a captived ancient demon that sends out spawns to create havoc in the world in sake of vengence, for locking her up in the pits of hells. the idea is to play with the irony that her slaves/spawns gets "freedom" while their master is a captive.... kinda confused myself here and there with the idea~ + the fact that its a pretty straight-forward kinda theme... so will need to think about and see if it works or to do something else entirely different....

back to old drawing board... :D

04 April 2005, 08:23 AM (

another idea concept on a person submitting to murder, upon being possessed unwillingly. kinda like a puppet master thats sticks on you physically. no strings attached.

04 April 2005, 08:33 AM
interesting idea.....i would have liked it if the head of the posesed(?) is bent down and closed eyes...kind of submitting herself.....and the arm of other woman need some work..

04 April 2005, 08:37 AM
looking great...excellent drawing

04 April 2005, 01:57 PM
sandsekh : hmmm, that sounds much better actually.... maybe it's the submission of the gal infront that i feel something's missing. thanks for the input dude. :)

NOOB! : thanks pal, glad you liked them. hope to clear up and confirm on one idea soon, cos i think i may have problems with my colouring stage. (

mixed feelings for the concept ideas atm, then hit me that we are actually the masters of all creations... so that makes the works slaves to anything we perceives them to be. thought it'll be pretty interesting to incorporate to add in the 'apparatus' that crafts out our pieces of 'slaves'. in this sketch, i added some pens and pencils that irritates the creation, who is chained up in the the constrained paper till the work is done.

Looking good. If you go with the "murder puppet" concept perhaps you could make the "master" slightly less dominant in the picture, almost like a shadow enveloping the "servant". Maybe take some inspiration from Correggio's "Jupiter & Io" ( Try to find a pose that makes the servant look like they are unsuccessfully resisting the master's push.

As for the lastest concept- definitely get some Escher ( inspiration in there! Maybe have the part of her thas is already finished being drawn reaching off the page trying to pull herself off. Although for me, this concept evokes more feelings of "creator" than "master".

Keep up the good work, I'll be watching this as it develops.

hahaha, a funny way to see that.
ok lil story seen in my way "lil cgboy learns to use tools, use 2d 3d creates a creature, then a whole world, starts thinking he's god and finally realizes he's just pushing n pulling dots around ;)" approached the topic the oposite way. in 3d. The artist as servant and created a godess named "inspiratia".
if you go for the murderconcept, a mistress is more impressive if she just dominates by will (hard to illustrate) and not by physical influence, except its a beast... lol.
well, nice drawings, keep it goin, lookin forward to your progress.
keep up the great work, wish you loadsa fun and best luck

I like the way you get your figures to fit together. The way the two heads on the girls relate to each other is well done, also in your big page of sketches the way the hanging figure is realised is impressive. Are you getting a better idea of how this thing will look? Time marches on.

04 April 2005, 11:58 AM
DigitalSkunkwrx : thanks for the ideas dude. really inspiring, may be testing out the shadows bit during the colouring stage as i dunno if she should fade entirely into the background or just a darkened cast. thanks again. :)

THE Wizard : thanks! lol, i hope to do a good job on the colouring too... **crosses fingers** hehe

the1st_angel : you really added more spice to the stories. set me thinking and decided to do the murder concept with alittle more details. i prefer soft kinda domination. thanks for the suggestions dude, much appreciated.

Jack Youngblood : kinda got into a block after the 1st couple of sketches, and finally decided on one. hope to get more time to do some experiments on the colouring stage. thanks for the comments dude. (

Finally decided on the concept i wanted to go for. heres the lineart. added in the details from the sketch perviously as i realised that some hands were missing from the back gal, and more scars onto the slave gal. decided to just have the head tilted upwards as i tried acouple of sketches with her facing down... just can't seem to work well as i wanted to protray her unconcious state.

Good drawing, I really like the concept sketch page that you showed too, the top right ones in particular.

04 April 2005, 03:56 AM
Jose Pardo : thanks pal, kinda got stuck on which concept to go for in the begining... lol. (

base tones + experimenting colours

really really really like the concept sketch...and waiting for mor color

04 April 2005, 03:30 AM
Oro: Thanks for liking the sketches dude. will do my best for the colouring. :) (

change of colour combi as i wanted a lighter feel and more focus on the subjects. the background is added to give more more sinister look, with blood flowing out of the pipelines.

ok u have this wonderful top cowish drawing but as far as i can see ur skn shading sucks, bigtime, but well fix that, it sems that i dont know how to properly lay down skin so ill give u some tips, first drop by to my thread , i made a lil tut that u might find useful, it is mainly for sketching properly, now aftr u see it ,the next stp to real colouring is to blend and soften the skin. why is that important, well that is when u start using the soft edge low opacity soft light mode paintbrush, combine it with some high saturation colours and u got ur self some serious skinning, this was written in the bezt intention, i saw ur work as a concept and lked it, so i would like to see it properly coloured:thumbsup:
oh..and dlose this background, let ur characters speak for themselves , this bg seems to force itself into the pic

04 April 2005, 12:34 PM
hello i just want to add to Stjepan's post that half the image or illustration is the background. so mind the lighting in it. the figures just look kind of flat with no defined light source.

also i just want to point out the cloth i think you should make it flow with the legs more... even though cloth falls down it still shows hints of what's under it. right now i just see one mass... as if they are both wearing 1 skirt.

lastly if i where you i would just dim the whole image down a bit... start from a mid grey or light grey leave white for highlights.

anywho that's my 2 cents. i hope that will help.

good luck with your image ill be back for sure to look at more updates!

04 April 2005, 02:26 PM
Nebezial : thanks for the crits, i agree on the colouring bit. just can't seem to get the colouring rite as i just mess the whole thing up once i start placing the colour palettes in. gonna do more trials on the tones and light source. ps, the tut in ur thread does help alot in understanding how the colours tones come in placed, thanks again!

Slav : thanks dude! will be retouching them and keep ur pointers in mind. hope to post the updated version soon. be great if you could crit on it again, no pain no gain. hehe...

04 April 2005, 02:35 PM
great concept! here are few suggestions: maybe you should fix the profile, it looks a bit off, maybe the forehead is a bit too small, and the third hand is a bit confusing me.. but i love the colours, and keep up! nice work!:)

04 April 2005, 05:49 PM (

trying out colours again, here's one with the last update i did on the monotonous colouring and the other more skin tone looking (don't mind the hair... fooling around with the blue shades). crits will be of great help, thanks in advance!

04 April 2005, 05:51 PM
i'm not sure which one i like better.

hmm i'm liking the first one allot, mainly for the eyes, second may be a bit too pale for my taste.

04 April 2005, 05:59 PM
calisto : thanks for liking the concept and the pointers for the anatomy dude. :) the gal behind actual have 4 hands if u look closely, 2 holding the hands of the gal infront, and 2 wrapping around her. will still be touching up the image as i am still not satisfied with it, colouring and all... hope to make this piece one to be proud of. hehe. only one month to go!

noob : hmm... actually i am still pretty confused myself on which will better, i like the 'dead-looking' skintones, but it just doesn't seem to work out right... most prob i'll be doing one with the full coloured tones and do a comparison with the i did on the mono-tones. thanks for the vote dude, it'll make it easier to decide if i am still stuck then... hehe. :D cheers!

The skin tones of the two women seem a bit off. Did the servant just die in the picture or had the master been holding her for a while? If she was just stabbed, then her skin should still look soft and smooth, unless you choose to portray an abusive life with many scares on her.

An Idea for the master: She could have a white and palish look that would reflect how she treats her servants or you could paint a tan skin tone that shows deceptive beauty.
Her mouth seems over exaggerated. Maybe a smirk or evil smile would add to the feeling of her character.
So far I like the concept, especially the four arms of the master. Also, the glossy shine in her eyes (presented in the left most and recent coloring WIP) adds to here evilness.

Thanks for the input austin, thinking of just using a different shade of colour to show the 'half-dead' gal infront. (

base tones for the gal behind

04 April 2005, 09:35 AM
tips and tricks time, take a soft edged 30 opacity brush and set it to soft light, use light orange yellowish colour and go over the entire skin, now reduce opacity to 20 and tale strong red and repeat, play around with it , ull see what i mean

04 April 2005, 06:32 AM
Thanks for the tip nebezial, really helped in adding the extra colour toning i was looking for. hope to finish this soon, slow worker... :) (

working on the face and minor details

adding in the overall look...

04 April 2005, 05:40 PM
oy, here is a lil trick, u wanna improve the light to shadow relations, then teke a dark blue, it can be dark red, it depends on what u need, now take a soft edge brush and set it to hard light, this way u make shadows without messing up the shapes, it sort of a fills the colour with shadow, it could do wonders when u clearly define the light direction:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 05:18 AM
:hmm:

04 April 2005, 05:58 AM
Nebezial: thanks for the tip dude... but can't seem to get the hard light to work properly. think i am doing it wrong... hehe. but appreciate all the help u have given all these time pal. :)

Jugeras: thanks dude. all the best for ur submission too.
u got a personal webby or something? seldom find illustrators in s'pore. (
