Welcome and good luck:thumbsup:

03 March 2005, 04:30 PM (

Well what can i say..Long advanced algebra class, got inspired (have to make radical changes on her,him..everything)..i home nobody will mind..i don't have the financial capabilities to buy a graphic board or software so i'm gonna do this one in pencil (on paper) and then scan it..sorry people..good luck to all

03 March 2005, 05:07 PM (

just took another picture with my digital cam..worked on the girl a little bit (sorry for the red color..the light in my room)..i'll start searching for someone who can help me with the scaning of the work..good luck to all..criticism is most welcome

03 March 2005, 07:54 PM (

again..sorrry for the odd colors (using digital camera) gonna find someone with a scaner for the final color and final image sessions..any ideas on the backgroun???

03 March 2005, 08:00 PM
Hi there! Not sure what to tell u about background....give us a short storyline and with that im sure you will figure out a good setting.....Im getting that she has some type of bondage over him....maybe you want to take a different angle appraoch to give it more depth....its just too centered and focus....bring some perspective to ur drawing :)

Can't wait to see what you come up with

03 March 2005, 08:17 PM
--thx :bounce: i'll see what i can's kind of hard to change many things because i'm on paper...
--well i see it as a secret love,so i think i tend twards a night scene with a full moon in the back or something...for a love between a servant and a master must stay a secret. You can't see it because of the bad quality but they have tears in their eyes...maybe of joy..or maybe this is the last time they see eachother....
--i really don't have the money to buy a drawing tablet right now so i'll have to settle for my favorite..the pencil
--come again

03 March 2005, 08:22 PM
i feel really strange..everybody is using the computer..i am the one with the pencil...

03 March 2005, 08:25 PM
i feel really strange..everybody is using the computer..i am the one with the pencil...

this is a CG forum my friend, ofcourse there will allot of computer generated art,its what this forum is about.

but still don't feel discouraged, keep it up! i like what u got so far.

03 March 2005, 08:29 PM
Pencil scketches are alright, I do them too. Not everybody can afford a paint tablet or are that good at drawing with a mouse (why can't I, whhhhy? ).
Small crit: either her nose looks too far down, or her eye is too far up. Not really sure. Good luck!

03 March 2005, 08:41 PM
thx people :) the crit with the nose is really on the did i miss that? oh it's 12 o'clock at night..gotta go crash..i've got foto-electric phisycs in 7 hours
a lottttt of thx for the suport again

03 March 2005, 08:43 PM
i've got foto-electric phisycs in 7 hours

 u got what know?!?

03 March 2005, 08:47 PM
yo dude, looks like ur gonna get a hard time to do the coloring man, best of luck for ya man, whatever media ur gonna use,:)

03 March 2005, 08:58 PM
i've got foto-electric phisycs in 7 hours.............What kinda class is that.............Well I wish you nothing but luck....don't let anyone discourage you.......the pencil is the artist first and most loyal friend.......It can never let you down.....GOOD LUCK

03 March 2005, 05:18 AM's a part of our physics class that studies light from an electro-magnetic point of view (from a wave point of view)..thx to all for the are great! we get to work with lasers and stuff and study light

03 March 2005, 02:23 PM
Getting into a challenge like this, and having to deal with university classes is hell! Trust me, I know. By the way, you can do the scketches on pencil, but I don't think you can color it with traditional media... :curious: Better ask in the faq forum. :)

03 March 2005, 02:25 PM's har! thx....i will :)

03 March 2005, 05:56 PM (

-ok..last pencil fill..tommorow i'm gonna pass to pastel coloring..try to give it more life..i can't wait to get the colors
-also i think i didn't present my idea right: the secret bonds and relationships that can form between servant and master.I'll start work on a background..i want it to be at night..because this sort of relationship can only be protected by the darkness and silence of night. You can also interpret the tears that they will have it their eyes as a last meeting..perhaps
their last time together..or maybe tears of joy for finally getting to be with eachother..also although he has the chain to his neck you can see him standing they are in some way equal..

03 March 2005, 07:16 PM
I like the concept so far, although I would pose one question to you that I think many in this comp are missing- what's the emotional bond. He is in chains, but is he ruled through fear? Or maybe, in this case, he feels true love or lust for the master. Which way are you thinking about going?

03 March 2005, 07:28 PM
it's about a love that is taboo...the chain is there to show that he is still a may make him noble but when the morning comes he will be just another could see it as the love between the daughter of a master and a servant...she is also the master but there is a bond between them that changes that; but just under the cover of the night...i'll put tears in their eyes, too look like they are crying...something like..let's say her father is banishing him (the servant) and this is their last night together....he has been her servant and lover, dedicated his life to her and now he has to leave...they only have until the sun goes up...
--thx for the suport it's kind of hard, doing this in pencil and hopefully tommorrow pastel..thx a lotttttttttt

03 March 2005, 09:03 PM
I like your image, I feel that it could be alittle more stronger if you had a real chain to go by. not saying that it's aways the right thing to do.. the overall concept is pretty cool I look forward to seeing this in of luck

03 March 2005, 01:52 AM

good luck to all!

04 April 2005, 12:17 AM
Don't give up!!! Is it becuase of the software, or for the "painting-with-a-mouse" issue?

If it's the first case, the solution is quite easy, adobe and corel have trial versions that will last you 30 days (I think) so that's enough time to get it done, and I'm sure that there are lots of people in this site willing to give you a hand at getting started with either porgram (Photoshop or Painter). Plus, the guys at CG ussually don't mind if the entries were made with a trial version (at least at the last challenge they didn't).

As for painting with a mouse, I personally tell you: IT IS POSSIBLE.
Hope it helps. :)

04 April 2005, 05:23 AM
the problem that made me give up pastels and coloring is consuming all my time...that's why i i can't do the coloring anymore...and it is because i really don't want to be thrown out of the cotentest that i send the pencil colored image....i like it a lot...but for the next time i want to start using painter..but i really don't know how...can you give me some links tot tutorials or stuff...again,thanks for the guys are great! :bounce:

04 April 2005, 07:05 PM
really looking forward to the 1st of may so i can send my final image....scanned it,wery excited about the outcome...someone will bring me a graphic tablet next month and i will be participating with a full cg drawing.....:)

04 April 2005, 07:14 PM time...

04 April 2005, 08:04 PM
Graphic tablet, yuppiii!!! I'm so happy for you! I actually kinda envy you, but officially...
Just joking. :)

04 April 2005, 08:10 PM
thx a'won't be anything excelet..but it will be...and i'm so happy....i can't wait to start to paint in you know any tutorials for painter or something????

04 April 2005, 06:37 AM (

this is a scan of the final image..a low resolution one..but a scan..also scanned the image in the right size for the final image's not much...just can't wait ot have a tablet and graphic pack for the next challange..i think i got the emotions right..

04 April 2005, 07:25 AM
Please allow me to point out a few things that you may like to watch out for.

I understand that you are going for a specific style in your work. And I do not really intend on disrupting that. But there are some bits that sort of weeeken your work.

Like the neck of the 'servant' is a dear bit too long. It helps show the constraining chain. But also takes from it. When you come to think of it; Iron is a very heavy metal. and the peace you have there is not really a light looking one. It would have to be on him very tightly in order to be able to stay up to that level on his neck. Unless it is pulled to an elevated angle.

As for in the faces you may want to try and rotate the mans ear as well. It seems as if the whole head has rotated, leaving the ear to drag behind.
And I believe the tears would look so much better shall they flow along the curvature of the face. Sort of contouring the cheek bones and so on.

You have managed to depict a nice naive atmosphere. Which I believe was your initial goal. Keep it coming!

And congratulations on your tablet to come! (I still don't have one  )

04 April 2005, 04:06 PM
thank you so much...i kind of wanted a little judging or just someone visiting this page......and thx for pointing out those things...un fortunatelly i can't corect them on paper because it would tear holes in much wear and i'm gonna leave it like this..i think....the tablet won't be much...but it will be something more...sorry if my posts made you sad...

04 April 2005, 04:39 PM
I like the idea, but I also feel that the relationship between master and servent is not fully communicated. To me they both feel like they are equal in power, even though I can see the chain around his neck. You need to make the female appear more powerful. Looks great so far though.

04 April 2005, 05:21 PM
thank you very much ;)...i'm so happy that someone is finally visiting my thread

04 April 2005, 02:00 AM
Small crit Oro: I don't really understand what that at the bottom is... Is it his arm, her arm, clothes?

About the tutorials, have you checked the "Application 2d" forums here at cgtalk? Probably the guys there have a better idea where to get the information you look for, and you can also see what other members asked, so as to learn from their experience.

04 April 2005, 04:27 AM
...un fortunatelly i can't corect them on paper because it would tear holes in much wear and i'm gonna leave it like this..i think....the tablet won't be much...but it will be something more...sorry if my posts made you sad... As crule as this may sound, you are going to have to gain the habbit of restarting on your work on another paper.
Infact at times when I was doing book covers for fantasy novels I would take a demi-transparent Transferpaper and draw over an earlier sketch/drawing at least ten times per each illustration.
It is a very useful pracitce at some point, as it gives you better control on what you do. The general method to apply what you have traced over onto a clean sheet of paper would be to trace over it in reverse and scribble it on.

You have to try to understand that when you take an empty peace of paper for such a task. It is very rare that the first paper you take and start drawing on shall be same paper that your final image shall be painted on.
This is not a rule. And not the only way to do it. But like in your situation, papers wear out... and we end up still having things we would like to change sometimes. So the best thing would be to transfer that to

I hope this helps.

As for the tablet; I never had the chance to experience it unfortunately... but I guess it is just about how you get around using what you have. I grew comfortable with a mouse. And controling it. (Like my entry is completely done by a mouse)
But as I hear it... there is an emmence advantage that it presents. I am sure you will have alot of impressive results to show us.

04 April 2005, 05:10 AM
dude, u got the right expression, but i think they are overtears... too much water comin out of the eyes,...unless ur exagerrating, everythin else seems fine to me...keep tryin, dun give up!  :)

04 April 2005, 08:59 PM (

worked on the cain and the thing arround his neck..hope to do a loooot more the folowing days...big exam on tuesday...see what i can doo

04 April 2005, 09:02 AM
well i got the time to answer the armour question, first of all i work in photoshop, but as i remember, painter has the dodge tool in the photo effects if i am correct, when making metal keep this in mind!

1 metal reflects the surroundings

2 keep in mind what type of metal u r painting, alloys will somethimes contain more colours

3 basic colour is very important, it must be neutral, default for steel is dark, desaturared blue, over whith u overlay lighter tones, more is better.

4 metal usualy has damages, damages are ur friends, they add to the realism

5 dodge highlights command is used at the very end to accentuate the specular hifhlights

6metal tends to create very dark shades

well hope this helps u. if u have more questions come to my thread, oh and place a link int ur signature, i hate looking all over the place:D

04 April 2005, 06:37 AM
thx a loooott! :)

04 April 2005, 04:26 PM (

04 April 2005, 11:41 AM
thanks:) i feel better now....i hope's really fun to take part in these challanges....

04 April 2005, 09:31 PM
Che fach, Oro. How's the advanced algebra? For your drawing now. If you make the background grey you will have a good rhythm- grey sky, dark hairs, light faces. The main contrast stays in the faces. You have some good opportunities for coloring the picture without tablet. You can make some experiments with Image\Adjust\Gradient Map, but you need a very precise and completed black&white image. You can combine this with some layer modes. It's up to you, you are the artist. And find a way to improve your skills in the program you use for coloring.

04 April 2005, 09:35 PM
thx a loot...i will find a way...i've been using it for 5 days :)

04 April 2005, 09:40 PM
the algebra....tuesday..exam....fear :scream:

04 April 2005, 09:50 PM
what program are you talking about( image/adjust.gradient)???

04 April 2005, 06:50 PM (

04 April 2005, 06:05 PM

04 April 2005, 09:14 PM (

04 April 2005, 09:01 PM (

04 April 2005, 06:03 PM (

-well people..this (i think ) is the last image...i'm gonna leave it like this....i expresses preety well what i wanted to say...The name farewell kind of stuck to me.Thanks for all the input, the crits and the cg painting tutorials...they've helped me a loot..i'm just a noob at this :)
-the final story: a secret relationship between a master and a servant at it's ending point..a dual relationship of love and obedience..and the pain of departure..
(and yes..i wanted the tears to be of apocaliptical proportions...and to look weird)...good luck guys..i'll stick to posting stuff and focus on the hard exams that will come..

04 April 2005, 12:45 AM
Imi place ideea ta!!! Si realizarea tinde spre ceva calitativ!! really nice! felicitari ! :D:bounce:

04 April 2005, 05:40 AM

04 April 2005, 12:28 PM
Okey wait I got the thank you bit... and the coolness about a Romanian coming?
Darn has it been a while, can't remember squat!

So you have finished your entry?! Woow.. everyone is finishing lately. I am so worried that I personally won't make it to posting that one last milestone. I guess you guys just work harder.:applause:

There are many elements I would have personally done diffrent, but I can understand that this is actually what you had wanted it to look like. It definately reeals your own story... told with your words.
I think the most important element in the image was the looks to each other. And what is shared through it. I think that everybody can definately agree that it has been captured well. they have a strong energy flowing.

GOOD LUCK:thumbsup:

04 April 2005, 03:13 PM
thx a looot do you know romanian?hmmmmmmm....just when i said that i'm finished i started working on her sleeve and wanted to make the pattern look it isn't finished yet...again thank you for the nice words :D i'm only a noob..actually this is the first "start to end" painting i ever did and hope not the last....good luck to you too!

04 April 2005, 04:01 PM
I am sure it won't be the last... It's like an adictive mistress to the world you are living in. You just have to break away and get back to it. Will be waiting for your next comments.

I have this sort of "condition" that required I do alot of sports when I was a child up.. so I have a great variaty tried out.
One of them was diving. Not from the tower.. I was in the spring board... And our trainer was this VERY sweet Romanian woman called Anka (I hope thats how you spell it). And I tend to learn simple statements for somereason.

Actually my greatgrandparents from my grandmothers side were forced to leave Romania almost a century ago, so I share some of your blood :)

Seek Not My Heart

Oh gentle winds 'neath moonlit skies,
Do not you hear my heartfelt cries?

Below the branches, here about,
Do not you sense my fear and doubt?
Side glistening rivers, sparkling streams,
Do not you hear my woeful screams?

Upon the meadows, touched with dew,
Do not you see my hearts a'skew?
Beneath the thousand twinkling stars,
Do not you feel my jagged scars?

Seek not my mournful heart kind breeze,
For you'll not find it 'mongst these trees.

It's scattered 'cross the moonlit skies,
Accompanied by heartfelt sighs.
It's drifting o're the gentle rain,
A symbol of my silent pain.

It's buried 'neath the meadow fair,
Conjoined with all the sorrow there.
It's lost among the stars this night,
Too far to ease my quiet fright.

No gentle winds, seek not my heart,
For simply ... it has torn apart.

05 May 2005, 05:19 PM
Night after Night
I sit in front of my window night after night
Wondering what you are doing.
Wondering if your tears fall
as much as mine tonight.

05 May 2005, 05:20 PM
So I sit in front of my window night after night
Remembering how it was to hold you.
Hearing the words I cherish the most.
Ones of which I cannot hear enough.

05 May 2005, 05:40 PM
I used those words to guide my path...i searched inside myself to find the emotion, the pain, the grief....the impressive looking tears can only start to express what one would feel...when loosing someone they've loved that much....
A secret love can not stay a secret for long...she is his master and the master of his heart...But her parents find out....and send him away...never to return again.....the last momens of a unique relationship....
The chain is his link to a world that he abandons every night...for he is daemon and angel...
This is the moment where it all ends...

Hey, sorry it's taken me sooo long to get back to see your thread!

This is so different to all the other images on the site - I love the expression and feeling you have evoked in your style and I'm glad to see you have come so far to finish.

Hope to see you in the next competition, and good luck for this one! :bounce:
