And the final image. I didnt have time to change anything and probably wont have more time for that right now :(

Hey ,
I've decided to enter the challange. I got some idea for that even, now lets hope I'll be able to finish the challange like GSO one :)

My idea is to show a big Earl/Baron , who's tryin to prove himself his slim and pretty. His servant helpin him to fit a slim-making gorset.
Now here's the first sketch.

And some work in progress pic already .

Looking forward your crits!

03-27-2005, 01:33 PM
excellent , period. those red curtains or what have you fluttering
in the air look so cool .

haha is it a window or door suddenly blowing open ? that's what it looks like,
kinda like he wanted the corset to be a secret, but ooops..

03-27-2005, 01:42 PM
Very very original. My father is a retired tailor. I am familiar with the feelings of designing clothes for the not suitable ones.

03-27-2005, 01:45 PM
hey! i thought you were skipping this contest heh. can't wait to see more. good luck to you!

03-27-2005, 01:53 PM
very cool lighting!! your style remind me to craig mullen, great work!!

03-27-2005, 03:00 PM
Beautiful image, I like the loose feel to it. I can see the Craig Mullens connection. Best of luck with it.

03-27-2005, 03:08 PM
i'm seeing allota fat bastards in this challenge haha.

great work!

Green bird
03-27-2005, 03:31 PM
Great idea, color and composition so far. Can't wait to see it finished

03-27-2005, 05:24 PM
Aye, like the fat man. But I'd like to see him running his hand over his belly and trying to look sexy instead of... what he's doing. What exactly is he doing?

03-27-2005, 06:02 PM
Great start very mullin styled^^

can't wait the rest of your posts...
good luck ;)

03-27-2005, 06:23 PM
I second the Mullins comment - that's a compliment!

Original and clear concept, something I'd expect from you.. sorry, no crits - looking good. Play around with many ideas, you seem to have them!

03-27-2005, 07:25 PM
Dude, that┤s a great way to start! This thread will be rendering lesson for begginers (like me :P)

03-27-2005, 07:55 PM
I think you've managed to capture the true essence of this challenge, which is to portray the feelings of both master and servant. And what could be less dignifing than working for a revolting boss and having to keep your thoughts to yourself? The egocentrism of the master and the patience of the servant. Excellent!

03-27-2005, 09:02 PM
lighting is great. thanks goodness he's fatter than mine. :D interesting concept Maciej

03-27-2005, 09:12 PM
this is looking cool. definately an interesting idea and i like where the lighting is going. might be cool to see the servant's face.

03-27-2005, 11:05 PM

JUST today we were having a chat with my wife over the whale's bones once being used in the making of corsets...
She HAD recalled a fact about how many corsets were made out of a whale.. or how many whales would have to be killed to have a complete one but was not sure at any rate on what the numbers or the ratio was.

And now looking at your image.. it seems that the ratio has REALLY gotten out of hand for this guys corset! :)

The general composition of your image is outstanding. And the era you have gone for is really depicted well with your style of painting it in.

Would love to see how this turns out!

03-28-2005, 02:00 PM
thanks guys for Ur feedback and kind words!
baron impossible - his acting sexy, your idea with a hand on a belly sounds pretty cool :)

I've found indeed inspiration with spooge demon stuff,

I'll do my best to post another progress pic asap. there will be lot of rendering stuff on this picture dang...

03-28-2005, 02:21 PM
Im loving the colour scheme so far and the idea is JUST COOL!!! I want to see more, MORE, MORE. Keep it up dude

Master and Servant

03-28-2005, 02:55 PM
Lovely lightning! I like your style, It reminds me Craig Mullen's.

03-28-2005, 03:02 PM
very good concept, i dont know if you will keep this colors, but i like the ambiance with this choice, good work:thumbsup:

03-28-2005, 03:07 PM
The extranneous girdle makes me chuckly...like using an ice bucket to unload raging floodwaters from one's home.

Nice work...I like the colors and the direction. :)

03-29-2005, 10:24 AM
Great colors and mood lightening Maciej!

03-29-2005, 10:39 AM
It's nice to see you on the same contest.
I will follow your progress.

Tomur :)

03-29-2005, 11:39 PM

03-31-2005, 11:56 AM

Ok heres little update for this work. I was havin some long time off the internet and without any free time to continue that stuff.

I tried the idea with the hand on his belly, but it doesn\\\'t look as good as I supposed so I just left hs hand as it is :)

I\\\'ve nticed so many awsome work here lastly, challange gonna be very difficult dammit ! :D

Any critiques very welcome!

04-02-2005, 11:02 AM
i think that looks extremly great,i can't see many mistakes at all.

04-02-2005, 11:08 AM
wow! very cool WIP..

I'd say you should stick with pretty high saturation, it looked somehow better than the newest image, despite the fact new one is more detailed.

04-02-2005, 12:33 PM
Those lights are magnificent! you're a true painter to me! Very nice classical version of the theme! watching with anticipation!

you made my day with this!

04-02-2005, 01:26 PM
yeeeeh! Really lovely fat man... great colors... and nice mood!

-only thing: the servant's face is a bit wrong but it is a sketch i see...

keep on posting!

cheers: KornÚl

04-02-2005, 01:31 PM
Wow! looks awesome, you'r colors and lightning/shadows are really good. I also like how thoose upper front curtains, they frame the picture very well. Keep it up!

04-02-2005, 01:55 PM
So far I think this is my favourite of the ones I've seen. On top of the obviously accomplished artwork, the atmosphere of the piece makes me wonder who the guy is, and what life is really like in his bizarre be-draped castle.

Couple of things, though ~

What about him holding up a hand mirror and looking into it, admiring his own reflection, maybe pursing his lips? I think that might work and add to the story (up to you, of course)

Also, I think their shadows would look a bit better coming at a slight diagonal down the steps, instead of going horizontally to the left. Adds a bit of depth.

Lastly, something about the front collar of his robe is not quite right. Perhaps it needs a fastener or something.

04-02-2005, 03:46 PM
simple but efficent concept:thumbsup:

i really like how you worked out the lighting very solar:applause:

04-02-2005, 06:27 PM
thanks again guys!
the idea with mirror is really kool :) I'll try that one, it might look funny :)
I'll also try to work more with composition, it looks a bit to static and common for that kinda situation.
Thanks for support!

04-02-2005, 07:11 PM
Cool idea, and very nice artwork.

04-02-2005, 07:19 PM
can t belive i only just stumbled on this.... great idea... and your colours composition and ncharaters are very good, will be watching

04-02-2005, 08:21 PM
the big man is terrific, a great graphic style, and the choice of color is really very good, i like this pic and i wait the suite of colorization, good work:thumbsup:

04-02-2005, 08:23 PM

Another update, the idea with the mirror is pretty cool and it looks much better for me now :)
I was wondering also to add a fancy stupid yellin dog like poodle dog or something :D
What you think?:)

04-03-2005, 02:54 PM
That's looking much better, although I think he needs to be looking into the mirror. It seems like he's looking the other way.

If I were you I wouldn't add anything else; you've made the main character interesting enough, putting other things in would distract from it. Mmm... having said that, I'm just having a look... Maybe if the dog was in the shadows, bottom right, quite subdued? That might work. Worth a try :)

04-03-2005, 03:02 PM
Or possibly even add the dog (if you were to) coming out from behind his leg, you could keep the focus more on the man that way, and thus not cluttering too much of the image, plus you could definately denote more size issues between he and well.... everything else.

Still though, that's only if you want it. I personally would leave the dog out, as it's very very fitting as is. I fear the focus runs the risk of being thrown off otherwise. I'd get a few more opinions though *nods*

04-03-2005, 05:20 PM
ok i dont have anything to say because as soon as i opened the thread i pissed myself and knew i had to subscribe... now i know i have to go to bed... lol

great work tho, love it:thumbsup:

04-03-2005, 05:36 PM
O, nasi tu byli. ;)

Great work, Maciej, I love your composition and colours. And he reminds me of old Giedi Prime baron Vladimir Harkonnen. It's not just the, erm, bone structure (;)), but also his expression is pretty alike (if we don't mind the setting, that is).
Good luck in the challenge!

04-03-2005, 05:42 PM
Hey, this is great stuff! Sorry I haven't noticed this thread before. Love your concept (man, that guy is sooooo fat, it' just WRONG, lol). Definately add a yapping, annoying poodle or something. Great colours, too... I'll check back for updates! Cheers,

my 2D entry:

04-03-2005, 06:49 PM
Waaiiit a minute.. It JUST struck me now.

Is the guy COMPLETELY naked?!!! Or is the colours of his robe/ background playing tricks on me?!
If he is.. yeah I am cool with it.. just that I SURE wouldn't want to be you having to retouch this guy's personals

The whole image was TOO promising from the first post up.. and it is really living up to expectations. It is just fantastic!!!
And I have to agree that the mirror fit in perfectly.

It's all just so amazing.. great work!!

Really great t hear such cool opinions of yours.
As I said before, about the poodle, I actually found one pretty wicked (check the link lol)(http://www.critterhaven.org/newsletter/images/square%20poodle.jpg)
This is a nice design for a stupid dog :) So I tried to go that way but not too much, and I put the dog right behind his pretty master :)
I'm still wondering about some composition issues :)
Thanks for critiques and will look forward more of yours advices!

04-03-2005, 07:08 PM
Friggin' wicked!

The poodle thing is a nice touch -
Also like I told you earlier today, the baron reminds me of the harkonnen baron from Dune, which i think someone already pointed out....plus it also reminds me of the old hans christian andersen story "The emperors new suit".

Looking forward to the final piece

04-03-2005, 07:11 PM
This is getting better and better. The added texture of the carpet and cloth in the back is awesome. The colors are great, too. I don't know about that rope on the right, though. It doesn't seem to add nothing to the image and is a bit distracting.

Excellent work!

04-03-2005, 07:15 PM
So quick reply, I didnt even set up my pizza for cooking :)
Carpet and bg texture is like stretched red plane with fibers filter :) its a cool and quick tool for fabric stuff :)

Hi Maciej, cool character...too funny. I like your idea and also the color looks great.
I can't wait to see more. Keep going.

Very nice, it''s reminds me Biigleb''s concepts from Fallen Art.

04-04-2005, 01:44 AM
wow this is looking awesome. keep up the good work...and good luck

04-04-2005, 06:24 AM
oh missed your thread ;)

Awesome work!

04-04-2005, 08:18 AM
I'm in love with that dog! I think including it added just the right amount of balance to the bottom of the picture, making a nice triangular composition with the three characters. I can't wait to see this finished. I'm really learning a lot from your use of color!

04-04-2005, 08:21 AM
thats a nice colour, and nice fat guy, i think u might need to censor his wiwi, just a suggestion:) :) goodlux!

04-04-2005, 01:40 PM
I love it!
The master looks little gross but beautiful in a different way!

04-04-2005, 01:45 PM
awesome work, certainly nothing to crit, just keep up the great progress. hazzah for fat masters :D. good luck

04-04-2005, 01:58 PM
Holy crap he is so fat! Funny painting, cool tech.

04-04-2005, 02:18 PM
ok this work is amazing, aside the fact that it is damn funny, but ur skills are awesome!!

04-04-2005, 05:58 PM
If feel silly giving criticism to somebody who is a clearly superior artist to myself, but here we go.

love the designs... love the feeling of supiriority the big dude exudes... Love the poodle (great touch)

But I think you could create tons more depth in the composition if you play with the colour temperatures and intensity in the reds (particularly in the red curtain on left side compared to the red rug). they have a pretty close intensity which I feel flattens out the image and doesn't do much to direct the eye.

Killer image though, one of my favorites so far.

04-04-2005, 08:56 PM

twedzel - thanks , I didnt paid to many attention on that before. thats really helpful.

I decided to put some greens and change a look a bit coz it was all in red. Thats why flowers appeard, now just working with the details and the stuff, ahh so much work with that and time is running out so fast.

Might be cool to put so dark branches and leaves in the front, I have to test that :)

04-04-2005, 09:10 PM
Love the concept, its really intriguing. Minor crits would be the way the fatboy holding his mirror. I think it would be better if he holds it like a woman, with three fingers or something like that. everything else looks great.

04-05-2005, 04:37 AM
As glad as I am that you actually read my post, or that by chance you yourself also thought some things should be covered...
I don't think the leaf really fit in there. I can't believe I am saying this, but the picture would be much better off naked I think. How about a cushioned groin-sack that makes his penis look much more emmence than it actually is. Would fit well to his ego trip!

04-05-2005, 08:18 AM
Hahaha... love the fat fella. Well... i don't love him. I love the painting. If you know what i mean...

Cool image and interpretation of the theme.

Maybe you should ditch the fig leaf for the full 'eeeUUrGhh' effect...?

04-05-2005, 10:12 AM
awwwwwe! such a big barstard. i dont have anything to crit i love it. its a great piece the colors work extreemly well i dont think u need to add that much of green, that hint u have now is great.

but please if u have it in mind do it im sure its going to be better than my imagination.. u truly have a talent:bowdown:...lol

04-05-2005, 11:02 AM
Looking great. Your grasp of lighting is amazing. The only thing I don't like is the leaf. I think if you hung his belly a bit lower it would cover any grotesque appendages that are lurking down there, and you wouldn't need the leaf any more. Oh, one more thing - it appears he is looking past the mirror rather than at it.

04-05-2005, 09:59 PM
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/6738/6738_1112738396_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/6738/6738_1112738396_large.jpg)

Here are another updates. I'll have to correct the fat mans look, coz yah, it looks now as he has been gazin somewhere over the mirror. Alos there's a hell lot of work with details. Just hope to get them all on time :)

I tried to improve a lighting a bit. Will have to work on that too later.

04-05-2005, 11:48 PM
looking great tiger!
just awesome....

04-05-2005, 11:56 PM
This entry is a truly entaining one..

Fat dude and a toy poodle,, priceless..

Keep up the good work.

lasting memories
04-06-2005, 02:59 AM
dang that guy has been staring at himself too long! put on some underwear already!! eeeww... lol.

04-06-2005, 05:16 AM
awfully good pic and funny too.. :applause:

04-07-2005, 01:50 PM
Its an awsom idear. Reminds me a bit of the H.C. Andersens story about the emperors new clothes. (not sure its named that way in english, but im danish :) )

Like the colors, red standing out and make a good frame for the rest. Like that you makes him almost naked but still hide his penis by the leaves. A bit of bible story in it aswell.. lot of small things you have managed to add in it, and there keeps popping new up.

Keep up the good work and good luck..

04-08-2005, 09:57 PM
Very cool image ! Can't wait to see the final !
Good luck !

I've made few another updates, mostly working on dof and lighting. I'm thinking if after finishing the image, not to add some oil-painting-looking postproduction:)
There's still much work to do with this picture. I think I'll leave the leaf where it is, as a censour and additional funny stuff there :)
ANy critiques and comments are welcom here! :)

04-09-2005, 12:03 PM
tiger.. THIS IS LOOKING PRETTY DAMN SWEET !! I think your lighting is Awesome. And the whole concept and composition is Great. love the 'Fig leaf' , nice touch. :applause:

nice lighting!

04-10-2005, 04:33 PM
superb color tones and the characters:applause:

04-11-2005, 04:54 AM
im not expecting u to remove the leaf but i just want to express my opinion.. i dont like it at all, ur work is excellent... that leaf tho.... it just sucks qaulity from the piece... i mean sure its funny but it looks like something u laugh about in the forums and then remove for the final piece... its a beautiful sceen u have but it just doenst work with it.

ok thats seems harsh so im just going to stress the fact that i love ur work...ur style... ur colours everything esspicially with this piece... it really is great

04-12-2005, 02:22 PM
Every time I look at the image my eye is drawn to the upper right where the light is shining on the potted tree's limbs. I'm not entirely certain why that is, but maybe some more lighter tones deeper into the image (sweeping upper right to lower left) might guide the viewer more to the primary subject. Just a thought, take it or leave it :) Great piece, in any case.

04-12-2005, 02:27 PM
i've never seen your works before, this is great! the colours are flwing, and they go great with each other. you really know how to make an atmosphere.:)

04-14-2005, 04:11 PM
I've been following this ever since the second sketch and the new update - wow. Stunning! I can't wait to see this finished!

04-14-2005, 04:15 PM
It looks realy good so far, I like the concept

04-16-2005, 03:58 PM
Your process is really awesome... Just try to add some saturate colours like in your sketch !!
Play with light, it's really awesome !!!

05-03-2005, 09:39 AM
just a few comments... would like to see the curtain more like velvet fabric on them, it would blend well with the characters and also the rope is hanging on the air, u might want to fix that. overall this is already looking great :) cheers..

05-03-2005, 09:57 AM
the work on the characters is great and the details on the plant is very good, very great work:thumbsup:

05-03-2005, 10:12 AM
maybe that mirror he is holding can be turned into a magnifying glass that he cud give as a present to his wife ,so she can see his small as f**k penis.

*why where u lookin at that area anyway noob!?

great image,nice colours,great concept!

05-03-2005, 10:43 AM

Congratulations on finishing! I love the concept, very funny and amazing technique as well, it reminds me of these older victorian pictures- with heavy fabrics, palm fronds and what have you. Good luck with the judging! :applause:
