03 March 2005, 01:31 PM (

hello ppl, this is the first time i enter a CGtalk challange, i hope i can make it to the end :)
here is a first sketch... smeagol/gollum with the one ring. i know it`s not very original, but here is my fisrt thought. i`ll concentrate on the feeling.

03 March 2005, 11:06 AM
damn, now i`ve read the FAQ, it sais that at least one character must be 100% human... too bad smeagol is a hobbit :(
must think of something else.. :D

03 March 2005, 02:34 PM
Also, you can't use existing characters--they must be original. Nice sketch, though. Good luck in the challenge!

03 March 2005, 10:31 AM (

ok dudes, i was planning to do the count Dracula and his servand Igor, but then again, those two characters already exist... so, from sketch to sketch i arrived at this stage: a steampunk-like warlock and his servant.
here is an ink sketch... more coming soon, feedback will be apreciated!

03 March 2005, 11:36 AM
Concept and interesting sketch, I await duty, good luck more.

03 March 2005, 12:08 PM

just a bit of a crit quick, the boys face looks wonky kind of warped.

04 April 2005, 09:02 PM
Wow, looking great so far!

04 April 2005, 09:16 PM (

ok, here is a little sketch update with the background story:
The big guy over there is Leonard (or just Leo), an alchemist of sorts.. the little fellow, Garrett, is a thief, a biginner of course, because he was cought by Leo while he was pickpocketing him.. Leonard had to do an importand travel far away, and as punishment for the little taffer he takes Garrett to carry his things while traveling the Coldplanes...

oh well, the line art is next, i think :)

04 April 2005, 10:06 PM
Nice bit of of sketching there - look forward to seeing it evolve. The story is good too :)

04 April 2005, 12:12 AM
thanx mythmaker!

i`m looking forward for critics and sugestions! i want to take the next step - lineart, and i need everything to look good. :deal:

04 April 2005, 12:17 AM
How do you do that line art? It seems really difficult to trace all that using a mouse.

As far as the picture goes, i really like the characters, its nicley done as well. Can't wait for the color.

04 April 2005, 09:17 AM
hello dioxide, that is a line art sketch, to be more specific, the true line art is on its way!

04 April 2005, 02:31 PM
AWESOME! I've already subscribed to this thread! Can't wait to see some color WIP's :)

04 April 2005, 05:03 PM
Hello Dominus, good work till now:)

I like it a lot, as we talked already through messenger, I just try to explain you some problems I can see in concept, a little bit the hands, the head of the servant, the bodys in general, but........I thought, mabe I can help ya much easier with a rough sketch. Understanding the structure of the concept was not so easy, but I hope the boy looks now more childish, about 14teen years old.
here the link to the sketch:

04 April 2005, 05:28 PM

k, sorry for the big break that i took, i had some problems with my PC... and tablet. so i decided to start the color work with my mouse instead of the tablet

04 April 2005, 09:37 AM (

and here is a little update... still done with the mouse. i expect some feedback... what color shoud be the sky?

04 April 2005, 10:24 AM
Great character designs and lovely line work! Brilliant sketches...

I can't believe you're doing this with a MOUSE?!! Dude, you're doing an awesome job, regardless. Great start on the colours too.

Keep going... I'm looking forward to seeing more!

04 April 2005, 10:35 AM
I like your linework, your use of colour works well with it!

04 April 2005, 11:34 AM
great style, purple on the lower portion of the sky, and clouds above..u uu and a planet ... and...going nuts , sorry, it just makes me wanna paint a planet behind them ,i mean look at that sky, it is so roomy ant the guy does look like like a hardcore space adventurer:D

04 April 2005, 01:22 PM
Very strong picture. I like it. The only things to crits, but it's wip, is that colors of master and servant are, for the moment, too near. I think that the master could have his shadow on the servant so that we differences the 2 with more accuracy. Moreover it grows the idea of domination.

Want to see the next.

04 April 2005, 01:27 PM
I am impressed that this is mouse-work! Nice stuff. I would actually keep the sky color the same as it is now, unless whatever color you choose you go subtle with it.

The characetr standing behind the main character seems a bit off balance. You might want to try to throw his/her left leg out a bit for support. Keep it going!

04 April 2005, 06:49 PM
Dude, looking really nice. I dig the colour choice. This somewhat reminds me of Claire Wendling style when she does her comic books. It has a similar feeling to it. VERY NICE piece and can't wait to see more updates.

04 April 2005, 07:18 PM
Reall y nice man really nice. IfI make some comments... The older man is really greta but the face of the younger guy's face is not that karakterfull., if you now what I mean. But really nice

keep goiing. (http://

04 April 2005, 11:02 AM
10x u everyone for coments & crits! well, my tablet is back!
and yes, i think i`ll change the child's face and cloths color... still not sure about the background.. anyway the planet ideea is good!
i'm really busy these days but i hope i'll post some updates soon.

04 April 2005, 11:12 AM
Really great style, it seems very promising, definitly submiting on this one ^^

05 May 2005, 12:10 PM (

this is the final coloring image, i`m in such a hyrry, damn! tommorow i`ll post the final image, and upload the crap, hopefully :P

what do u think of the artwork at this stage?

05 May 2005, 12:49 PM
Well I like it. Great style. ood expression. I think the little boy is a little lost in all this brown color but it goes with the fact to be the servant so it's ok. So my only crit would be for the sky who seems to have a paint style very different that the character.
Great job

05 May 2005, 12:59 PM
thanx for the crits authentic! u`re so right, the face of the kid is too dark... and about the sky, belive me, i`ve tried so many variants.. this is the only one i`m somewhat happy with, and sadly there is no time left for another...
i`ll try to update tomrrow, thanx again!

05 May 2005, 02:01 PM
This image is one of my favourites. The only thing I can mentions is that the sky and land can maybe use a bit more contrast, but other than that an awesoe image.

Good luck

05 May 2005, 08:05 AM (

ok guys, here is the final image, thanx everyone who gave me crits and encouraged me... good luck to everyone!
