Hey everyone, this is a quick dialogue test using the Jack Nicholson model I finished some time ago. He was modelled in Maya but animated in MAX for a prospective employer (who's looking specifically for MAX talent right now).

Here's the preview movie (7 MB):

And here's the lighting/rendering test I've put together:

Critique is greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I noticed the two or three errant frames at the beginning, that is MAX bugging out on me during MOV export.

I love how you animated his mouth. The head, as he turns to the side, then back again seems a little floaty. A little arc might also help.

lip sync looks pretty tight and believable :)
the head is a little jerky or something, maybe try what pollywoggles said.

the model looks like jack, haha, love it.

Thanks guys. I've adjusted the curves on the head turn and I think it's much better now...

I'm working on a rendered version now, I'll post it post when it's ready. I'm using GI, so it should be done in ten or fifteen years.

Nice facial expressions, little choppy, but lip sync wise is well done!

Hey thanks man. I think the choppiness might be the lousy compression (Cinepak). The CD-quality sound does not seem to go well with the compressed video...on some machines anyway.

Here's an MPG-1 encoded preview of the second clip I'm working on:

It's about 4 MB...The text reading "unregistered" in the upper left is from the AVI-MPG converter I used, but this one downlaods a lot faster than the raw MAX preview.

I'm going to render both of these, but I like this one because it showcases the speech more and has some real acting going on.

Finally got this guy pretty much finished. Actually, I sent this off; it was taking me too much time and I had to cut my losses to meet the deadline:

Lastly, I did just a head, which was specifically requested by my contact:

The lighting looks like this:

As I mentioned above, I had to cut my losses because of the time allotted between this and my full-time job. One of the things that had to be changed was the render style. I went from MR to this basic Scanline render, and basically just tried to emulate the setup I had before.
